  • NathanLee0921: this aicent instrument is internacional...

  • Que lixo. AHahahahah

  • In Italy this is called "scacciapensieri", it's mainly sold in Sicily XD

  • I'm Vietnamese and I've never heard of this instruments before now. And doesn't that hurt your teeth. Vietnamese have many better instruments than this.

  • @NathanLee0921 GET A CLUE, BUB!. This instrument is WORLDWIDE and is one of the oldest known musical instruments on EARTH. PERIOD. End of FACT. And NO, it does NOT "hurt your teeth". IT VIBRATES YOUR ENTIRE SKULL! The name of the instrument - JEWS HARP - has nothing to do with the religion or it's people. It is an "Old English" word meaning "Jaw".

  • Please someone explain it to me.. are all the sounds i hear in this video emited by Tran Quang Hai and the harp?

  • yes it is

  • Cette video est vraiment pas mal!!

  • in france it s called " la guimbarde"

  • He is really the exceptional Jew's harp player. He has used the rhythm to the Jew's harp performance . Awsome !

  • why is it called a jews harp?

  • because they are made by the jew

  • The Jaws' Harp (or alternatively Jew's Harp) is not a harp at all and it has no historic association with Jewish traditions. Its name might be a mistranslation of a French word, 'jouer', which means 'to play'. In 15th and 16th century Britain, this instrument was called a 'Jew's Trump'; in 19th century Italy, 'scacciapensieri'; this means "to chase your thoughts or troubles away".

this is from a website but I can't post the link.

  • This instrument is called Jew's harp . In the medieval time, a Jewish merchant sold things in London . Among his stuff there was a tiny instrument. The British people asked him the name of the instrument . He said : "It's a harp". So it was called "Jew's harp" that means the harp sold by the Jews.

    Tran Quang Hai

  • But if you go to different countries in Europe the name changes : Norway (munnharp), Sweden (mungige), Russia (vargan), Germany (maultrommel), Italy (scacciapensieri or marranzano), Spain (berimbao), Hungary (doromb).

    Tran Quang Hai

  • correction on the swedish one:

    Mungiga

  • Thank you for the correction of the Swedish term of the Jew's harp.

    Best,

    Tran Quang Hai

  • No problem.

  • was that you in the video?

  • Tran is the man. He should get a real-time looping recording going and do khoomei on top of Jew's harp, then perhaps spoons. I learned so much about how to play JHarp from Tran QH.

  • Thanks. I shall try the next time with spoons, overtone singing while playing the Jew's harp. It must take a certain time to master all these at the same time !

    tran quang hai

  • For a good example of real-time looping, search for "Phil Keaggy Shades of Green". He uses a device to record some audio like a percussion line, then play something else when it repeats.

  • WOAH! WOW just WOW! O_O

  • i love it!!!

  • awesome !!!!

  • This is the best Jew's Harp player . Very FASCINATING and absolutely TECHNO style ! WOW !

  • one of the best

  • You are absolutely RIGHT ! He is the King of Jew's Harp.

  • That rocked!
