My Calypso is still in use, since October 2008. No malfunctions or repairs ... other than greasing the suspension rods recently, no more creaking noises when the tub oscillates.
Yes, the machine washes and rinses very well, both small and large loads, any kind of clothing from blankets to jeans, towels, shirts and knits. Does a fairly nice job on pillows also. I've been using it now since sometime in October of 2008, no trouble thus far.
@aweyer312 ...actually... it's kind of a "not so successful" 1950's Apex Wash-a-Matic... in which, the entire drum nugelates or whatever they're calling it. The Kelvinator had a kind of "dancing squid" agitator which was awsomely splashy and cool.
I'm not impressed. My Whirlpool Carbrio HE washer can hold 3 sets of queen size sheets (six in all), plus 6 pillow cases and 6 pillow liners. Sheets come out sparkling clean. Now that I've seen this video, I see that I can do the wash three times faster.
@itsmegp46 - one set of sheets is not a full load for this machine. It'd take a while to collect multiple sets to wash together, being that I'm a single-person household.
@DADoESofTX If you want to be green, don't wash the sheets until the following week or whenever you change sheets just dump them in a hamper. Assuming its weekly, you will cut 52 wash loads per year, 52 dryer loads and 52 measures of detergent. My 2 cents.
@itsmegp46 - but then where would I sleep during the interim period, with no sheets on the bed? Also, FYI, I don't always wash the sheets alone (casuals/shirts work nicely as an equivalent fabric weight). You're making assumptions that aren't necessarily correct. :-)
@DADoESofTX Do you sleep 24/7? When its time to change the sheets for the second week, wash, dry then use one of those sets. Plenty of time to get some sleep. As for assumptions, none made. I simply sort laundry according to type. Sheets and pillow cases; towels and wash cloths; jeans; white underwear; colored t shirts, etc.
I get this washer yesterday, but the digital panel doesn't work(doesn't turn on). What I can do?it was of my aunt and has more than 8 years.Doesn't has garanty.
@Myworld691 - Cause of a dead machine may be the motor control board, inside the console, has two large heat sinks and blue capacitors. The board has a fuse which may blow if current overload or board component failure occurs. Fuse is not intended to be replaced separately, but if handy with a soldering iron you can try, 15-amp 250-volt slo-blow ceramic fuse, altho it may blow again if the board is bad (board is expensive). A line filter on the power cord in the console also may go bad.
It looks to me that this machine does a better job of washing than the cabrio. But then I don't like any of the "High efficiency" toploaders. For efficiency, frontloaders are the best. Sorry for the lousey spelling. I used to spell realy well. something went wrong somewear along the way.LOL
It has a choice of cycles ranging from aggressive to very gentle. The Handwash cycle runs a spin-shower wash with a couple brief periods of nutation (bouncing) at a much slower speed than is seen in these videos.
@DADoESofTX It's great to be handy... I can barely drive a nail! LOL Guess I'll have to just imagine what goes on in my Calypso, or watch the great video you made.
I've read that this system was nothing but trouble and that's why they were discontinued ... what has been your experience? It seems great to me... reminds me of the old 50s Kelvinator action.
Calypsos were also sold under the Kenmore brand, but your 4.7 cu ft machine is an Oasis. Oasis mechanical design is based on Fisher & Paykel, completely different from the Calypso. Different wash action, faster spin speed.
Are you still using this machine? Still happy with it? The Calypso didn't have a good track record... Nice, innovative idea, though.

WOW is it just me or does this machine remind any one else of an old washing machine known as the KELVINATOR?

How do you run your Calypso with the top open?
GreatSongwriters 1 year ago
@GreatSongwriters
I added a separate toggle switch that allows the lid switch to function normally or be bypassed.
