I must disagree politely with her decision to hold off slightly on the louder 8th notes in the 2nd movement. They should be almost an interruption and by doing what she does takes away from the overall effect of the interruption. just my opinion. Great playing in general though.
I normally love Joyce Yang but I wonder if she was having an off day on this or didn't practice enough as this is pretty technically messy and I think some of the musical decisions were unusual for her.
she is a fine, well-trained pianist i have nothing against her playing but i'm sure there were other outstanding musician swith more original musicality that speaks in a very personable way for the prize she won-- reminder of what competition is about as her prestigious teacher mrs. Kaplinsky once said, "it takes a various elements" in my words: To Win the Competition, and certainly on a big part, politics included.
Joyce is the best!!! She is a great pianist and interprets the music so well and so easily! She is also a very nice person, humble and considerate! I had a master class with her and she showed me things/gave me ideas I never thought of in my music! I hope more of her videos are posted soon, I love her performances! 0:)
Great!!! Very well played, and also give credit to Veda Kaplinsky, who is a great teacher as well!! She inspires even young students to play very well and learn very quickly. I have been very impressed with Helen Huang, Conrad Tao, and Gabriela Martinez. By the way, Gabriela Martinez and I were in the same studio in Miami back in 1991-1993. And at that time, we competed against each other in the state competitions in Florida! Listen to both Yang and Martinez's Prokofiev Second Concerto!!!
Apart from some seemingly false notes, I have to say that she realy played wonderfully. I'm a little disappointed by Sa Chen's performance. Her play was far too straightforward for my taste. Here Joyce played in a much more lyrical way. Lyricism is, I think what interpretation of romantic music is all about. And she did a wonderful job here by delivering such a lovely rendition of Schumann's Carnaval.
Wow. A super performance of a piece that, perhaps more than many, requires an accomplished rendering to be musically pleasing. I would've loved to have heard Chopin make his brief appearance at the Carnaval. Apparently time would not allow it.
We got to hear Ms Yang on Sanibel Island last night - also playing a Schumann -- she's quite remarkable. Audience absolutely loved her performance.

She is great, I especially like her facial expression. But I think Tsujii is undeniably even better.

Excellent performance. Except for some questionable tempo choices and a certain lack of colour in some places, I enjoyed her interpretation.

I saw her tonight at the Granda with the Estonia Philharmonic. She blew the place up. Electrifying.

Reminiscent of Guiomar Novaes, whose interpretation (on LP a half century ago) remains unsurpassed....
