Can't be more right about the american market, here in the US the idea of marketing is not about saving, but even if some one can invent a car that takes less than a quarter of what the competition is priced at, they will not market the car at half, but (as he said) "Bearly-just under" the competition, which is not to save money, but to aim at selling it better than the competition, yet making the most profit possible on it!...Sad!
@gromitj But its better than a fiesta, they fall to bits when only a couple of years old. I certainly would not pay 4000 for a brand new fiesta or any ford for that matter.
REVOLUTION!! Lol amazing this little car i just founded out today that it exsist and it comes to europe next year!! I love this little car not that it is a dream to have no its just so fucking funny and cheap!! A real good alternative for public transport or going on moped. Hell if its true that the improved version can do 1L:30KM then its just as fuel economal as my scooter!! I now own a suzuki baleno saloon (secondhand 1500€) But i wil most certainly buy the nano!! Just for the fun of it!
if this is coming to england and london, this will sell great in the big cities in europe if it is gonna be selled n the eu. Cheap and small, that are keywords for people that live in big cities and want a small car
@Riles07 fully agree, a sensible and pragmatic perspective is needed on the Nano.
Give the Nano a wide vibrant colour range, market it to university students in Europe and the US, market it as the city dwellers' car. The Nano's potential is just starting.
@neeraj93142 Damn... and i tought my country (holland) sucked!! In our country its around 40% of the clean price. But theres coming this new stupid law to tax on co2 emission (better hope the nano is superclean). Yes its a cheap car but our governments will help us with all pleasure to make it expensive for you!! But we pay ALOT on roadtax it depends on the weight of the car, from:1351kg till:1450kg (gasoline) you will pay 173 euro per 3 months. The heavier your car the more you pay :(
Unlike US here in India, most of the vehicle you will found here is Motorbikes. The car concept is restricted only for rich peoples. Having a car for us is thus always a dream. Only Tata have helps us to make it real.
I bought it in 30th Sept'11. Learnt driving with this. I am from a Lower Middle Class family of Bengal where people can't even dream of a Mobike that costs around Rs.40,000 ($1000). But after 3 years of Service, I managed to get a Tata Nano Luxury version. Regarding socialimpacts issues that is shown in the video above, I fully agree with him. What the Ford did in US is done by Tata in India.
how are those tiny wheels going to survive the swiss cheese pot holed roads of india?! maybe that's where Tata will make the comeback.. $mart guy this Tata Rajamawatshisname...
@hamster700 because it's a TATA NANO maybe there are cheap bat they are all made from plastic they are super ugly and they don't seem to be good cars I prefer with more money a smart than a TATA NANO let's say that if you font have money you would bay the TATA NANO bat if you have you will not
a question. what were we europeans driving in post-war years (the masses i mean)?
answer: cars pretty much like this... those who had cars in the first place...
they were small, cheap, and spartan. and they were good enough. if it was good enough for my grandparents, why shouldn't this car be good enough for me?
ok, i'd still rather have one of those 50s models if they would be made new, but since they aint, this is as close as it gets...
This guys an idiot! Scooters are cooler and cheaper than this car, and don't require a full license either (and are cheaper). Bikers would never convert to this either, unless they have a major personality change. I would wear a helmet driving this!
What people seem to fail to understand is that this car is made for the Indian market where most of the common people do not have the money to buy cars, even used ones. India is overcrowded and small cars are essential in the huge traffic that is the Indian metropolis these days. This thing could be a heaven-sent for the Indian family, unfortunately they've become tainted with our western ideals and seem to want useless, expensive and waisting big western cars these days.
I've got a 1985 BMW 325i that will last longer, and costs less, than that tin death trap. Oh Yeah, and my beemer's a real car. . . do you even have to inflate those toy tires?
It should be pointed out that the car is not meant for any of the people who are actually watching this video in the first place. People who ride motorbikes with their families in the blistering heat can appreciate the importance of this vehicle. It isn't designed to be be a super-car, it is a vehicle for the masses. I don't think anyone has the right to comment on the efforts of Tata, to bend the rules in automobile design and creativity.
@TheCHRM2...I ve been hearing that from the past 25 years. Do you think that the GPD of the countries u mentioned are stagnant. by the way i am an Indian
Great unbiased review.....Thanks...This car is selling well now in India and it is pretty good and big too. A very good 2nd car in these times of high fuel car and a great 1st car for the lower income groups...
Interesting little car I m sure it would sell well in cash strapped britain especially to low income families. I believe in India, Millions aspire to owning this car. Think they would need to buff up the Safety equipment if sold in UK like airbags and seatbelts which would probably increase it price.
@manutdgk1 They had, It was a yellow one they compared to look just like pikachu. Jeremy however doesn't know what a pikachu is and called it a "punkoowalla". Such ignorance to one of my favorite video game franchises. Onto the car though... It doesn't sound very fast and I can safely say it's not very enjoyable to look at, but it does apear to be nice if you need a cheap car.
@manutdgk1 Hahahahahaha indeed... Clarkson: This is the new Nano... and is built by a bunch of [insert racist comment here] in the jungle, from a box full off garbage... hahahahahaha actually i think that an electric version of the Nano would do fine...
You have to think that India is in the same proverbial boat as China in that they have incredibly lax labor laws; very low minimum wage and very poor worker's rights. The United States would have to A) pay the factory workers a fuckload more and B) quality assure the product intensively to meet the strict guidelines we've set. But still... we could easily see cars similar to the Nano near the same price range if only every car maker in the world would get it's head out of it's own ass. Honestly.
@djsufferthing Well put! In the end, you get what you pay for really. I would much rather pay twice as much for a safe car to drive on US roads than for a $2000 death box on wheels.
@djsufferthing Dude get your facts right and then comment.India is lot different from China and if we didn't get enough pay we always have the right to strike thats what we do.Don't ever compare China to India. You get a fuckload more money because your things cost a fuckload more.
Apart from that Nano is prepared in a world class plant in Gujarat. And if you are thinking of standards go look on google Nano meets most of the safety standards of Europe.
@chandurocks614 The United States has a higher standard of living than China/India. That's why we get paid a fuckload more. Ever hear of outsourcing? It's a major problem with major corporations today in the United States. Now why... why oh why, would anybody choose to hire one country's workers over another country's or even their own? Or to purchase one country's product over anothers or their own? Labor wages. Ultimately, it comes down to how much work you get for how much money you put in.
@chandurocks614 India is not a whole lot different from China. Though, China has a higher standard of living than India. Our stuff doesn't cost more. We get all of it from China, lol.
@djsufferthing What do you know about India that you are talking about standard of living LOL.Stop looking over Internet and TV about India and once see what is our daily life and normal India looks like. One more guy bragging about our standard of life but in reality he doesn't even know what real India is.Pity on You now stop this ridiculous argument about standard of living LOL!!
@chandurocks614 Oh, I just noticed that you live in India. Anyway, take a look at the Human Develpment Index and you'll find that not only is India far below the United States, Canada, and Austrailia but is also slightly below China. I'm sorry about offending your national pride. I've never been to India (I plan to visit eventually) and I'm sure you've never been to the States. I'm only concerned with the facts as they are presented.
@djsufferthing Its hard to talk with a man who shows statistics every time.As you plan to do visit India i'll put the discussion to rest and for you to decide. "Human Development Index" :P
@chandurocks614 All of this doesn't take away from the fact that the Nano as it is couldn't be sold or imported in the US due to it's failure to meet Safety and QA standards. If it did meet those standards it wouldn't be a two thousand dollar car but a four or five thousand dollar car. Which would be an improvement on the current trend. Our cheapest car being somewhere around ten thousand dollars. You can barely buy a scooter for two thousand these days in the States. Good day.
@djsufferthing Are you fucking nuts I have been to china and that country got me floored. It is atleast 50 years ahead of india in terms of infrastructure and 100 years when it comes to economy. For India it would be fools dream to even think of catching up china. India lost its chance. But still the masses there are pretty poor and communism vs democracy well the latter will always be where the people are the happiest.
@matkakulfi Why would you call me fucking nuts and then agree with everything I've said? Anyway, HDI is the HUMAN development in a country; income, education, life expectancy, etc. NOT the accomplishments of the "state." If that were the case, the Egyptian pyramids would rank up there with the best, which were (purportedly) built by slaves who, like most slaves in history, had no income, education, and very little life expectancy. The Chinese people are equivalent to slaves in the modern world.
@TheCHRM2 That doesn't make the country more developed. It's HDI will probably not come near the UK in the next century or more. And I am originally from India and lived there as a kid (so no bias)
@Scudeyyy U live in UK thats why u dont know what technology has been put in to build this car ,its equivalent to a sports car dont look at the price look at the engineering marvel, fuckin indian habit of liking whats in west to whats here in India
@gurupunjabiboy No it is not?! If it was built like a Porsche or a Ferrari (or any sportscar for that matter) it would not cost anywhere near £1000 or 1,00,00rs. If it had amazing technology then Tata will be making huge losses, selling it for such a low price. i think what needs to be marvelled at is this car's lack of technology. The fact that it is a whole new car for so little. Like the guy in the video said, no one else could do this apart from India.
Yes, you do get a whole new car for such little! I was checking out the Nissan GT-R supercar and noticed that just upgrading the paint to metallic paint costs 3000 USD. This car costs only 2000 USD and drives just like a car!
@Scudeyyy get out of britain you slumdog....what are you doing here?Go back to where you were born...dont ruin our HDI by bringing your third world curry smelling ass and monkey brains here.
This car is stupid and ugly.....I hope you didn't bring it here with you.
@mpingola Oh we'll surely bring that car to UK and sell it in ur country cuz that's what u all are capable of buying. Now go do some overtime duty then maybe u'll be able to afford a burger. Also remember to brush ur terrible teeth.
@mpingola its racist cunts like you who ruin a country. go to your council flat and your m reg ford fiesta and complain about something else apart from immigrants.
Are you serious? You call this a sports car? 105 km/h top speed is a sports car? Man, you are ignorant. sports cars go 3-4 times the speed that this car goes at! This before you blurt stuff out!
I appreciate this car and think that it has a great value!
They give the cool car assignment to hip young blokes and this garbage to this poor old guy. Can't you people give him Ferrari assignments once in a while?
@ XfsxnfsX shut the fuck up....this car is truly revolutionary.....like the guy said in the video'what henry ford did in 1920s, Ratan Tata is doing it now'...
Going above 30 Miles per hour will make this car shake. 40 Will shake your jawbones. 50 will cause your wrist bones to dislocate. At 60, Your skull will have fractured and it will be too late to realize you are driving a a car built by child laborers in the third world.
just so people know cars are rally expensive in india mostly cz of taxes!! a crv costs 65000 US $ in bangalore india and a 5series a 3L D costs 125000 USD! so yes not all indians can afford a good car !! a 1.2l suzuki hatch costs 10000 USD ! do the math.
I just skimmed through the comments.. 90% of them don't say a thing about cars. And almost all racist.. Com'on guyz.. Let's behave like adults.. Don't see a reason why all of us can't get along well. Between , i would buy this car. The top end version. It's adequate for my needs and green in it's own way. But the Tatas would have to first figure out the reason for the fires though..
Hi check out this really cool analysis of the tata nano, it is titled :In defence of the Maligned Nano: The Analytic Cut. You will find it at MyCarMyChoice(dot) com under strategic cut
It is a must read if you feel any connect with the cute car Nano!!
I think this bloke has lost his marbles. First of all this car looks fabulously ugly. The interior is rubbish. Yes it is tremendously cheap, but in India. He said it can be bought at a price of about 1900 quid. Why would any one buy this when he can have an old BMW 7 Series for about the same price. It's not even economical either. Over 50 mpg, with a 624 cc engine! I'm sorry, if any one is looking for economy, VW Polo Blue Motion is much more economical than this thing. It's RUBBISH
@boo66 India is much like Pakistan, just doesn't have that many bomb blasts and has a bit more poverty to it. I understand perfectly that people in India can now have a car for the same price as a motorbike. I would love to see Tata making loads of money by selling this car, so that they can spend more on Jaguars. In India this car would work fine, just not anywhere else. Not even in Pakistan
In my country Malta(EU) is waiting for this car. So your point is useless. In Today's world, everyone wants a cheap small city car which is fuel efficient for everyday use. Like it or not, this car fits perfectly hence the success it will have and it's doing. So again your comment is pointless.
@rikstaker Look man unless you're hit by a stray bullet or blown up by a road side bomb, stick to the point. You can't compare an apple with an orange.
@dublinfinest94 109 now 122 people dont realise this car isnt made for the average american or european. this car is made for indians who have spent their lifes only able to afford a cheap motorcycle as a family vehicle. Wouldnt is be better to put 4 people inside a Nano than 4 people on a motobike? it's commone to see 4 even up to 6 even sometimes 8 people all on a one motorcycle. Not everyone is as privlaged as the US or Europe.
Why not just buy a used car? For $2,000 (mind you, Tata would never be able to sell this car for that much an pass safety standards here in US), I could easily pick up a pre-owned 7th gen Corolla or 6th gen Civic that will be reliable, cheap to maintain and insure, and wont take half a minute just to reach highway speeds.
@Brendonbosy The only problem with used cars is you're getting someone's old problems. But you're right this car needs special safety features because otherwise the oil companies and speculators will get hurt.
@Brendonbosy I forgot to mention that it's ok for huge companies here in the states to grab cheap labor from India cheating our people out of work. Though when it comes to our people as consumers just watch out and don't let them take the same short cuts the hypocrite companies had done delivering them a dose of their own medicine.
Wow. Posts here about Bush, Zionists, terrorists, nationalism, Hollywood, and on and on. Get a grip folks. The Tata Nano is simply a $2,500 car that gets 50mpg and keeps the rain off you. To the Indian market it is nothing short of a miracle. For the first time a family can afford a car. Lighten up.
So much anger, so much anger! Over what? If you don't like the car move onto another vid, if you like it comment. I personally won't buy this car but I appreciate the fact that it was built for the masses who couldn't afford one. That is appreciable. What is
Can't be more right about the american market, here in the US the idea of marketing is not about saving, but even if some one can invent a car that takes less than a quarter of what the competition is priced at, they will not market the car at half, but (as he said) "Bearly-just under" the competition, which is not to save money, but to aim at selling it better than the competition, yet making the most profit possible on it!...Sad!

@wiigamer136 LOL. I hope you were being sarcastic. Nano would make a nice city car. It's just that I don't like the prius.
Jabid21 7 months ago
@Jabid21
LOL, well, to tell you the truth, the Prius is faster than this, but less fuel efficient!

Honestly.
djsufferthing 9 months ago
@djsufferthing Well put! In the end, you get what you pay for really. I would much rather pay twice as much for a safe car to drive on US roads than for a $2000 death box on wheels.
hiwalaproductions 9 months ago
@djsufferthing Dude get your facts right and then comment.India is lot different from China and if we didn't get enough pay we always have the right to strike thats what we do.Don't ever compare China to India. You get a fuckload more money because your things cost a fuckload more.
Apart from that Nano is prepared in a world class plant in Gujarat. And if you are thinking of standards go look on google Nano meets most of the safety standards of Europe.
chandurocks614 9 months ago
@chandurocks614 The United States has a higher standard of living than China/India. That's why we get paid a fuckload more. Ever hear of outsourcing? It's a major problem with major corporations today in the United States. Now why... why oh why, would anybody choose to hire one country's workers over another country's or even their own? Or to purchase one country's product over anothers or their own? Labor wages. Ultimately, it comes down to how much work you get for how much money you put in.
djsufferthing 9 months ago
@chandurocks614 India is not a whole lot different from China. Though, China has a higher standard of living than India. Our stuff doesn't cost more. We get all of it from China, lol.
djsufferthing 9 months ago
@djsufferthing What do you know about India that you are talking about standard of living LOL.Stop looking over Internet and TV about India and once see what is our daily life and normal India looks like. One more guy bragging about our standard of life but in reality he doesn't even know what real India is.Pity on You now stop this ridiculous argument about standard of living LOL!!
chandurocks614 9 months ago
@chandurocks614 Oh, I just noticed that you live in India. Anyway, take a look at the Human Develpment Index and you'll find that not only is India far below the United States, Canada, and Austrailia but is also slightly below China. I'm sorry about offending your national pride. I've never been to India (I plan to visit eventually) and I'm sure you've never been to the States. I'm only concerned with the facts as they are presented.
djsufferthing 9 months ago
@djsufferthing Its hard to talk with a man who shows statistics every time.As you plan to do visit India i'll put the discussion to rest and for you to decide. "Human Development Index" :P
chandurocks614 9 months ago
@chandurocks614 All of this doesn't take away from the fact that the Nano as it is couldn't be sold or imported in the US due to it's failure to meet Safety and QA standards. If it did meet those standards it wouldn't be a two thousand dollar car but a four or five thousand dollar car. Which would be an improvement on the current trend. Our cheapest car being somewhere around ten thousand dollars. You can barely buy a scooter for two thousand these days in the States. Good day.
djsufferthing 9 months ago
@djsufferthing Are you fucking nuts I have been to china and that country got me floored. It is atleast 50 years ahead of india in terms of infrastructure and 100 years when it comes to economy. For India it would be fools dream to even think of catching up china. India lost its chance. But still the masses there are pretty poor and communism vs democracy well the latter will always be where the people are the happiest.
matkakulfi 8 months ago
@matkakulfi Why would you call me fucking nuts and then agree with everything I've said? Anyway, HDI is the HUMAN development in a country; income, education, life expectancy, etc. NOT the accomplishments of the "state." If that were the case, the Egyptian pyramids would rank up there with the best, which were (purportedly) built by slaves who, like most slaves in history, had no income, education, and very little life expectancy. The Chinese people are equivalent to slaves in the modern world.
djsufferthing 8 months ago
@matkakulfi FYI India has a GDP growth rate of 10% what means that it will beat the UK before 2020, Japan before 2030 and the US before 2040
TheCHRM2 8 months ago
@TheCHRM2 That doesn't make the country more developed. It's HDI will probably not come near the UK in the next century or more. And I am originally from India and lived there as a kid (so no bias)
Scudeyyy 8 months ago
@Scudeyyy U live in UK thats why u dont know what technology has been put in to build this car ,its equivalent to a sports car dont look at the price look at the engineering marvel, fuckin indian habit of liking whats in west to whats here in India
gurupunjabiboy 7 months ago
@gurupunjabiboy No it is not?! If it was built like a Porsche or a Ferrari (or any sportscar for that matter) it would not cost anywhere near £1000 or 1,00,00rs. If it had amazing technology then Tata will be making huge losses, selling it for such a low price. i think what needs to be marvelled at is this car's lack of technology. The fact that it is a whole new car for so little. Like the guy in the video said, no one else could do this apart from India.
Scudeyyy 7 months ago
@Scudeyyy
Yes, you do get a whole new car for such little! I was checking out the Nissan GT-R supercar and noticed that just upgrading the paint to metallic paint costs 3000 USD. This car costs only 2000 USD and drives just like a car!
wiigamer136 7 months ago
@Scudeyyy get out of britain you slumdog....what are you doing here?Go back to where you were born...dont ruin our HDI by bringing your third world curry smelling ass and monkey brains here.

It is a must read if you feel any connect with the cute car Nano!!
RoadNeki 11 months ago
I think this bloke has lost his marbles. First of all this car looks fabulously ugly. The interior is rubbish. Yes it is tremendously cheap, but in India. He said it can be bought at a price of about 1900 quid. Why would any one buy this when he can have an old BMW 7 Series for about the same price. It's not even economical either. Over 50 mpg, with a 624 cc engine! I'm sorry, if any one is looking for economy, VW Polo Blue Motion is much more economical than this thing. It's RUBBISH

boo66 11 months ago
@boo66 India is much like Pakistan, just doesn't have that many bomb blasts and has a bit more poverty to it. I understand perfectly that people in India can now have a car for the same price as a motorbike. I would love to see Tata making loads of money by selling this car, so that they can spend more on Jaguars. In India this car would work fine, just not anywhere else. Not even in Pakistan
Dean9488962 11 months ago
@Dean9488962
In my country Malta(EU) is waiting for this car. So your point is useless. In Today's world, everyone wants a cheap small city car which is fuel efficient for everyday use. Like it or not, this car fits perfectly hence the success it will have and it's doing. So again your comment is pointless.
maltese85 10 months ago

Why not just buy a used car? For $2,000 (mind you, Tata would never be able to sell this car for that much an pass safety standards here in US), I could easily pick up a pre-owned 7th gen Corolla or 6th gen Civic that will be reliable, cheap to maintain and insure, and wont take half a minute just to reach highway speeds.
Brendonbosy 9 months ago
@Brendonbosy The only problem with used cars is you're getting someone's old problems. But you're right this car needs special safety features because otherwise the oil companies and speculators will get hurt.
YouTubbingGeorge 9 months ago
@Brendonbosy I forgot to mention that it's ok for huge companies here in the states to grab cheap labor from India cheating our people out of work. Though when it comes to our people as consumers just watch out and don't let them take the same short cuts the hypocrite companies had done delivering them a dose of their own medicine.
YouTubbingGeorge 9 months ago
@YouTubbingGeorge
1: Maybe if America didn't build such horrible cars, you'd stil have a car industry.
2: No one is forcing you to buy their products.
3:Leave it you guys to point the finger elsewhere. You are never happy with what you have and listen and get sucked in by marketing BS
I am sure the term Commuter Scooter came from the US and Poverty pack to describe a "base" model.

1. They put a diesel engine in it, that got at LEAST 60mpg.
2. They could sell it without all the bullshit US "safety" garbage on it.
3. They didn't inflate the price for the American market.
I'd much rather have one of these than a POS Chinese made Chevy Equinox.
SakoTGrimes 11 months ago
Lighten up.
