this is creepy.....i do respect that this is what these people wanna do....as i should be respected to comment on this serious matter....these people spend a whole lifetime living as best as humanly possible in regards to "not sinning"....and then we display their corpses and smell them...they teach us to not cling to material things...but then we worship there dead bodies and cling to there material leftovers....this is proof that we learn nothing!

These saints are the proof of our Lord Jesus. Here in Greece, we also have similar saints, who their bodies remained intact after their death and many miracles have been done by them in the name of Jesus Christ. Their body smells beautiful.

We have St Spyridon, St Gerasimos, St Nektarios and many others!!! And this happens only to people who were really saint and people knew they were saints during their lifetime.

This happens to anyone who loves God so much and follows Ηis will.

I dont understand why all these bodies are exposed. People honour the bodies, but Jesus said that our earthly body is just a temporarily one. Its the soul, the spirit that counts. Not the body. Plus, I think its really gross. I saw some really decomposing faces and hands. Our earhtly body will die, but our heavenly body will live forever. We shouldnt honour those bodies so much.

@MartinaMovies You're missing the point, Orthodox saints confirm themselves as such like this, they don't rot, their bodies only dehidrate and smell beautifull, that means that they are excepted by good as saints!! That in turn means that they are next to good in heaven (not just "in") and that they are blessed to perform miracles WITH THEIR BODIES!!!! So, you see, they are not just a pile of meat and bones which shouldn't be looked at even, they should be "used" for healing, and respected!!

@MartinaMovies The idea behind relics come from the Gospels, when the woman with bleeding (I think) touched Christ's garments and was healed, even without His direct, intentional action. Of course, relics are also something that as humans with just our 5 senses, can understand. Similar to how a cherished photo or belonging of a loved one can take on a significance beyond its raw material (photo paper, cotton cloth, the silver and jewel in a necklace, etc.).

So why did the great schism happen? Political interests. If it had not been for politics, there would still be one church. Jesus wants a single church, so why do we not start working toward that?

Relics come from the idea of Moses wanting his body taken to the Promised Land. Also the Hemorrhagic Woman that touched Jesus' garment and power was given off. I'm not any kind of expert but there are 2 Bible based examples. Relics are 100% Biblical as are the sacraments, saints, praying for the dead the use of incense, oil, candles and holy water. Remember, the first writings of Catholic Apologetics learned directly from St John the apostle (i.e. Polycarp and Ignatius) we know we are right.

These people who have died before us, have no doubt lead wonderful Christian lives, and showed us that it can be done. BUT, surely there inspiration should be as their's was, the Word and presence of God's grace.

I respect what these folks are doing, but how does it fit in the Christian tradition?

@ethomfactusest relics of saints have been in the Christian tradition for many many years. Orthodox Christians and even Catholics have preserved relics of their saints that date back to even sometimes the old testament.

Not all of these images are of Orthodox saints. There are many images in this video that misrepresent our dogma on who is a Saint and what is a relic ... since the "relic" belongs to the Roman Catholic church and has been "preserved" using sophisticated mummifying techniques.

@Iloveromania4ever : Keep the relics but the Romanian Orthodox chants are BEAUTIFUL and touch the soul. I will look up some more and listen to them. I am very familiar with Greek chant but the Romanian chant sounds very mystical and I don't have enough words to describe how beautiful it is.

FACT: Her body incorrupt was removed from a water-filled grave, where her habit had broken down & her rosary had rusted. Ask any mortician: Water would accelerate decay. Her body was intact. It is possible for humans to mar a body; remember the post mortem lance wound in Jesus' side?

We do not show reverence to DEAD bodies, but to living saints. Those bodies are often miracleworking ones. There is not a better icon of a saint than his body fallen asleep. For example, many people are healing themselves from cancer after praying over body of Saint Nectarios of Aegina. Those are not fairy tales, but actual happenings.
