Long John was playing blues before The Who. Before Paul Butterfield. Before most white people on earth ever heard of the blues. Should he have apologized for being white and English? Nah, normal people thanked him for opening the door to blues, boogie-woogie, and rock music to them.So fenland folly, get your panties unbunched, have a hurricane and relax, for crying out loud.
This is a joke, right? A Bessie Smith classic that was about the 1st inundation of New Orleans that you didn't know anything about. The ONLY version since worth listening to was by Irma Thomas for the Orleans benefit album after Katrina that devastated the lower 9th ward. Compare her version which is full of real blues - she lost everything along with many other blues artists you are copying - Just find it and hear it.. Then take this posting off in shame.
@fenlandfolly Just found and heard the Irma Thomas version - the bass makes it sound a bit country/cabaret for my liking, About 30 years ago, I watched a South Bank Show documentary about the Everly Brothers - the main thing I remember was a guy singing a blues song which started "Well it rained 5 days.." That one line has stuck with me ever since. Thanks to the wonders of youtube, I've since found out that it was 'Backwater Blues'. I plan to learn it and play it, if that's OK?
@taffboyslim Alright by me if you have the right attitude to this number. The other clowns who have posted about the same time as me are only probably from London or home counties who only heard about blues from their local pubs/clubs. at that time. They ain't seen nothing, have never heard nothing really. A joke really.
Home counties come London jokers all - he should have stayed away from this number.
