It's hard to decide. The M24 is a sniper's weapon, the M16 useful on open ground, and the M4 for tighter quarters due to the whole size thing. The M1 (Garand or Carbine?) has a small magazine capacity and too much bullet, or is underpowered (.30car)
I'd take a G3A3 or FN-FAL over all of those any day. Big hunk of steel, but it gets the killing done every time.
There's the M1 Garand, a 30-06 semiautomatic rifle, which holds 8 rounds in an en-bloc clip, and the M1 Carbine, a light carbine firing .30 Car rounds, which were held in a 15-round box mag, and basically the first large-scale implementation of the "personal defense weapon" concept.
As for the USAS: At that weight, I can carry a battle rifle and enough ammo to last a week of hard fighting. It's an interesting design, but basicall uncontrollable on auto, and aside from that just a semi shotgun.
to bring your conversation back to it's beginning: in my opininon if you want a .308 (7,62mm) best choice is the H&K 417 very accurate low recoil and one of the most reliable weapons i know ... for friends of the smaller 5,6mm weapons (like also m4 is) i would try it with an XM8 nearly no recoil 6times less likely to jam than the m4

So we went to visit him and i gota hold of a berret .50 cal and a .50 cal machine gun. it was fun but damn my shoulder was sore for a while. But back to the point . in target pracrice i got threee critical hit. One headshot, a heart shot, and a nutshot lol
better in which way? all different uses for these guns. but for the average civilian the ar-15 style rifles are the cheapest, gun and ammo wise, and easiest to get a hold of. unless you want a ruger mini-14 which is basically an m1/m14 style .223.

the only thing that is diff between the Ar and the m4 is the lenth all parts ar interchangeadle and the ar is the public version of the m-16 once agin same gun.
i have a bushmaster m4a3, it has a 16" barrel and it is semi auto. bushmaster calls theirs m4. you only need the 200$ class 3 stamp if it is full auto, barrel under 16" or have a sound suppressor. a semi ar15 and semi m4 are exactly the same in all ways! of course full auto will have different guts, but are still the same overall gun.
M-16 A2 is a Gas Opperated, Air Cooled, Magazine Fed, shoulder fired weapon that shoots a 5.56 ball projectile at approximately 1450 Ft. Per Second. This is my weapon, their are many like it, but this one is mine. With out my rifle I am nothing, with out me my rifle is nothing.
"Approximately 1450 Ft/Sec?" 5.56x45's velocity is around 3100 Ft/Sec. The "slow" 7.62x39 travels at around 2200 ft/sec. Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but wrong information can sread like herpes. And I don't want that to happen.

dude the M4 Carbine is the military's version of the civilian AR15.
The AR is only semiautomatic, and I think M4 Carbines are semi/full auto. And as far as I know they aren't too different other than in that respect.

He did that one purpose... You can see him pushing the magazine-release button, no one with a brain would confuse it for a safety switch or trigger.

M-16 A2 is a Gas Opperated, Air Cooled, Magazine Fed, shoulder fired weapon that shoots a 5.56 ball projectile at approximately 1450 Ft. Per Second. This is my weapon, their are many like it, but this one is mine. With out my rifle I am nothing, with out me my rifle is nothing.

"Approximately 1450 Ft/Sec?" 5.56x45's velocity is around 3100 Ft/Sec. The "slow" 7.62x39 travels at around 2200 ft/sec. Sorry if I sound like a jerk, but wrong information can sread like herpes. And I don't want that to happen.

give him a break, yeah it was funny but everyone has to learn. if everyone got beat down with unsults there first time out our sport would die, and too many people want that to happen. encourage others to shoot, show them, teach them, let them see how much fun it can be.
