Ahh Panzer General II.. I played that ever and ever with my stepfather back then when it was released. In Germany it was Panzer general 3D. My favorite scenario was Prokhorovka.. the Battle of Kursk. I tried Pacific Admiral somewhat later but it didnt match this. I should rebuy it, thats a worthy treasure in my collection next to East Front 2.

@Selderij What I am saying is, these newer games today have many glitches, bugs, and requires patching. Let's not forget cheaters, stat padders, rank boosters, etc. It is games like these which make them awesome and great to get back to.

EA messed up the whole C&C (Like many other games). I played the first of the series from Virgin. I was really disappointed of Tiberian Sun because the faked the Screenshots in magazines. And i never played the parts after Generals.

PG 2's main quality was to be very intuitive and easy to handle for beginners (as I was once). You don't even need a tutorial. An excellent game.

Look up JP's Panzers forums. There is a very large and dedicated community of people working on new efiles, and the latest incarnation is called "OpenGeneral" with a ton of new campaigns and equipment there. This game will never get old. I still play it daily.

Yeah! Me2 How do you get past Novograd? I cant get my army ther in time and it wont let deploy anywhere near the city. Anybody?

Use paratroopers/their-impossible-­to-pronounce-counterparts, perhaps?

@mahareesh : You should be able to initially deploy forces in the Novograd city area and all by the river south-east from it, If I'm remember correctly you could place 4 units in the city area, but you should do it in the first deployment phase, if you skip that on the next deployment attempts you won't be able to place units in Novograd and Russians will take the city in first turn.

yeah that was a tough one to win (Novgorod) probably the hardest in the game... this was a hell of a game. SSI made a lot of great games back in the 90s but this one was definitely my fave.

ah this was the peak of strat games, all content, and little focus on Graphichs, nowadays, you go out and pay 50 bucks for a 99 % good looking game, and 1 % actuall content......

It's actually graphics that prevented this game from having more content, scenario or size-wise. Each map is manually painted so it takes lots of time and effort to get anything new done.

@drenus500 Lets not forget that most of these 'old school' games had real manuals and strategy guides, some which were as thick as a good mass market paperback book. Today everyone goes 'environmentally friendly' and give you either a thin and tiny 3 pages manual or better yet , a pdf format manual , which most people would print out anyways , so you're not really saving paper there. Back then they knew how to make a good game!

I love Panzer General II but there are a few newer games which are all about the content over graphics. I highly suggest you play Hearts of Iron II.
