With eatch new civ they make it more and more demanding on your computer..pretty soon nobody will have computers good enough to actually play it. I enjoy civ but no way im sad enough or bored enough to buy hardwear just to play it. I just about get away with this one, but the one after, im out.
Are you retarded? The more hardware reliant games become, new hardware will be coming out to support it. If you want to play video games more than just a casual does, you have to understand youre going to need to upgrade your rig every few years at least.

The game looks beautiful, the problem lies with STEAM. I bought a copy, promptly returned turn when I found out I had to keep STEAM. Thanks, but I'd rather play checkers that load that POS on my system.
Civ5 is a big joke, compared to civ4 they made the game even more unbalanced, enchanted it with a worse mapgenerator then ever before. Somehow they even made the game slower. The only thing that is better in civ5 is the graphics, it even has a much worse interface then civ4 and there it was bad. the combat system is boring as hell and it takes 42 turns to build a damn worker, wich you cant really do much with it often end up standing there wasting turns.

I have alot of hours into this now and I have to say it's really not much better if any better then IV (or III, or II etc...) I NEVER did understand the CIV take on research. What? I spend 800 years researching fricken POTTERY? and nothing else? Then another 500 years on the wheel? I wish they would come up with a parallel research tree like in Hearts of Iron rather than this silly serial one. This version seems boring compared to even Civ III. I have to give it a thumbs down.

The game will probably be great, but I don't like the lack of religions, espionage and many civs that were added in the Civ4 xpacs. It feels like The Sims, they'll release xpacs that will add all the stuff we already had in Civ4. They should come up with new ideas for expansions, not milk us.
I agree, but don't forget we still got milked in Civ4 with xpacks. Warlords was a fail, and BTS was what the game should have been at release, maybe minus a few maps and scenarios.
@TheTVLicence I just bought the expansion pack, and the "Beyond the Sword" is kicking my ass. I can take on the original, but the "Beyond the Sword" is blowing me away -- three games, and lost all three in less than an hour.
I hope they will improve diplomacy in civ5. In civ IV it was really bad, with very limited options (vassal states option was really anoying, etc.). I'm not sure about 1 unit per tile... That will make map pretty much overcrowded with units.
@0001Nikola Requirements are high based on all of the in game assets that have to be managed. A Civilization "world" has a lot of values that are used to compute the in game calculations for each unit, city, tile, etc. A lot of this data has to be stored in RAM so that it can be accessed quicker than the disk (i.e. between turns) 4GB of RAM only makes sense. So yes it's used for the AI, but it's used for a lot of other complex calculations.
Civ rev was the fail of the series, it was only relased on the console because i belive they didnt want to disipoint hardcore fans by giving them a waterdowned version desighned for CHILDREN betwenn the ages of 10-15 hohnestly i was angry because it was terrible because you had very limted control of what could be done to the settings, sorry about the spelling its 1 am were i live
@RenagadeTrain It wasn't really a fail of the series, IMHO. The fact that it wasn't called Civ 5 shows that it sat apart from the main series. I see Revolution as being an attempt to introduce Civilization to a new audience, hence why it wasn't released on PC where the main audience for Civ games resides. Honestly, if the watered down version got more people interested in the Civ games then it's all good. More support for the series means more support from the developers! =)

I hope they leave a lot of the content in the expansions of Civ IV gave the game so that you don´t have to wait for Civ V expansions to have a lot of leaders and really deep gameplay right from the beginning of the Civ V era.

@FinnishFuturist that is an exaggeration, Civ IV is not the worse, it is actually very playable but could definitely use some fresh ideas and ingenuity that Jon Shafer is offering in Civ V. And also I would love to see a longbowman beat a tank without cheating, but I think that is a low chance and only happens when you are really lucky.
Look nice, seems like they patch the default about attacking at last second of counter by moving 2000000units beside your opponent. Now yll have to show U R going to attack by moving all your units on differents squares! Civ isnt a shooter or a mass unit real time strategy game like every other game. Its going to be more about strategy this way! Now its going to be a turn by turn game, not a who's faster game (I hope)! If they focused on strategy this should be great :)
I want a more natural looking landscape/map. In the preview the city's look ugly. I want them to spread out over more squares as they get bigger. I also want some way of editing each individual city (especially the capital) so that they do look individual. I also want to be able to just play one Era as a Marathon game without it having to be a scenario. I also want a lot huger maps, the biggest in Civ IV is too small.

also if there are not more than 3 or 4 wonders build before you complete all technologies, the row of buildings is too long and you cant build only units untill you build wonders in cities that had 5 buildings in it already.
Now cultural borders dont seem to expand to the sea :0 i dont care about the graphs as long as they make the gameplay even better and a more versatile tech-tree ;) also they should bring back the palace view of civ3 and sexy amazons x)
@eltuzo466 I started back with Civilization II, and the palace view was my favorite part. I also loved the advisors bickering back and forth. But, I was probably 10 years old at the time, so I had no ability to judge intelligently and my memory may be deeply flawed.

Everyone who might be complaining about changes (more specifically no more stacking) has to realize that every other time Firaxis changed something about the game (air combat, espionage, religion) has turned out AMAZING.
Total War is my favorite when it comes to strategy, however you are only limited to times in earth's history. One thing I like about Civilization, is that the map is randomly generated and you build every city your empire owns, all while moving through the ages. Basically creating your own history. If Total War were to merge with these aspects of civilization, it would be the greatest rts/empire builder of all time.

yeah... the "recommended" processor speed is at quad core 1.8ghz.
i got a gaming pc and a normal laptop.
my gaming pc at 2.5ghz quad core handles it fine.
my 2.8ghz dual core laptop crashes while i use the game.
so yeah it's all about the specs.
i can't comment on if it's a "rip off", yet.
i need to play two or three full games to make a judgement.
btw, you can adjust the gameplay settings to make it operate better.

The game will probably be great, but I don't like the lack of religions, espionage and many civs that were added in the Civ4 xpacs. It feels like The Sims, they'll release xpacs that will add all the stuff we already had in Civ4. They should come up with new ideas for expansions, not milk us.

I agree, but don't forget we still got milked in Civ4 with xpacks. Warlords was a fail, and BTS was what the game should have been at release, maybe minus a few maps and scenarios.

I hope they will improve diplomacy in civ5. In civ IV it was really bad, with very limited options (vassal states option was really anoying, etc.). I'm not sure about 1 unit per tile... That will make map pretty much overcrowded with units.

@0001Nikola Requirements are high based on all of the in game assets that have to be managed. A Civilization "world" has a lot of values that are used to compute the in game calculations for each unit, city, tile, etc. A lot of this data has to be stored in RAM so that it can be accessed quicker than the disk (i.e. between turns) 4GB of RAM only makes sense. So yes it's used for the AI, but it's used for a lot of other complex calculations.

Civ rev was the fail of the series, it was only relased on the console because i belive they didnt want to disipoint hardcore fans by giving them a waterdowned version desighned for CHILDREN betwenn the ages of 10-15 hohnestly i was angry because it was terrible because you had very limted control of what could be done to the settings, sorry about the spelling its 1 am were i live

@RenagadeTrain It wasn't really a fail of the series, IMHO. The fact that it wasn't called Civ 5 shows that it sat apart from the main series. I see Revolution as being an attempt to introduce Civilization to a new audience, hence why it wasn't released on PC where the main audience for Civ games resides. Honestly, if the watered down version got more people interested in the Civ games then it's all good. More support for the series means more support from the developers! =)

I hope they leave a lot of the content in the expansions of Civ IV gave the game so that you don´t have to wait for Civ V expansions to have a lot of leaders and really deep gameplay right from the beginning of the Civ V era.

@FinnishFuturist that is an exaggeration, Civ IV is not the worse, it is actually very playable but could definitely use some fresh ideas and ingenuity that Jon Shafer is offering in Civ V. And also I would love to see a longbowman beat a tank without cheating, but I think that is a low chance and only happens when you are really lucky.

Look nice, seems like they patch the default about attacking at last second of counter by moving 2000000units beside your opponent. Now yll have to show U R going to attack by moving all your units on differents squares! Civ isnt a shooter or a mass unit real time strategy game like every other game. Its going to be more about strategy this way! Now its going to be a turn by turn game, not a who's faster game (I hope)! If they focused on strategy this should be great :)

I want a more natural looking landscape/map. In the preview the city's look ugly. I want them to spread out over more squares as they get bigger. I also want some way of editing each individual city (especially the capital) so that they do look individual. I also want to be able to just play one Era as a Marathon game without it having to be a scenario. I also want a lot huger maps, the biggest in Civ IV is too small.

because i always destruct the game by building too much buildings.
also if there are not more than 3 or 4 wonders build before you complete all technologies, the row of buildings is too long and you cant build only units untill you build wonders in cities that had 5 buildings in it already.

Now cultural borders dont seem to expand to the sea :0 i dont care about the graphs as long as they make the gameplay even better and a more versatile tech-tree ;) also they should bring back the palace view of civ3 and sexy amazons x)

@eltuzo466 I started back with Civilization II, and the palace view was my favorite part. I also loved the advisors bickering back and forth. But, I was probably 10 years old at the time, so I had no ability to judge intelligently and my memory may be deeply flawed.

@doom032 The announcer-guy said that they were very pleased with the prestentation of the game, which is usually a tip-off for a game that's more polish than substance. Still, I also said I trust Sid to put out good games, I just hope he doesn't get swept up in the Graphics frenzy we've been having these past few years.

Total War is my favorite when it comes to strategy, however you are only limited to times in earth's history. One thing I like about Civilization, is that the map is randomly generated and you build every city your empire owns, all while moving through the ages. Basically creating your own history. If Total War were to merge with these aspects of civilization, it would be the greatest rts/empire builder of all time.
