I love your video. I'm from the U.S.A and i ask that question too. why do we need food banks if we are that rich why do we need them. Any how, hopefully you have a wonderful Christmas =) and once again your video was awesome!
hey alin. Poverty isn't a political issue. The only politics involved are making sure government policies deal with the problem. On an individual level, it's a question whether you want to help another person.
Alot of people living in poverty are just too lazy to get up and work their way out of it, they blame it on everybody but themselves. If you are 100% healthy there is NO reason why you cant work yourself out of it. The problem is that ALOT of people are just exploiting social security, food banks etc. some people I know are 100% healthy they are just too gd lazy to get a job they just rely on social security and sit on their ass all day long playing games or watching tv, smoking and drinking
The thing is on a global scale the percentage of people who you describe are less than 1% of the world's poor. A person living in poverty in Canada is very rarely as badly off as a poor person in Africa, India, etc.
I'm not denying some people exploit the system, but I'd also add that people may be 100% healthy but they may have other issues like mental health problems and being socialized into a cycle of poverty.
Of course you are right, I was talking about poverty in wealthy countries. Poverty in Africa and 3rd world countries is a big problem and will always be... even if you pour endless money, many of those countries have very limited resources and there's really not much to be done there
It will always be a problem if the developed nations keep taking advantage of them. The 3rd world has plenty of resources that are controlled by corporations from the wealthy countries. Governments of the rich support this with their trade policies.
The world's resources should be distributed between the entire world. Of course, this type of shift in thinking will take at least another century to become mainstream.
It's all about balance and a word people have grown to hate, fairness.
It's been absolutely way too long. Hope you're doing well. My concern is, that we're springing up with so many of the same sorts of campaigns, that it becomes hard to choose where to begin. I hope In My Name helps eradicate this issue. Be well, my friend.
In My Name won't eradicate the issue. It's simply a campaign to remind governments of the commitments they've made. Pressure has to be maintain on world leaders to act and keeping acting to end poverty.
That said I'm pretty sure whitebandaction is one of the main groups creating awareness through the media. They're speaking for Comic Relief, OXFAM and Save The Children which are some big organizations in the struggle to end world poverty.
So good to see you, Chris, back to your good works of lifting up the torch so people can see by its light what's goin on in this world while some just sleep. Have missed you. I owe you an email. PLH to you and your Mom.
As is said for your country I say as much for mine but of course now US is pretty much going through a new phase and I only hope to see us come out on top with out heads high.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. These are certainly dark days for the American people. It is important though to not give in to the fear and to work together to make things better.
hey dipsetmf, the 888 video has an unknown ETA. i'm not happy about that but it's going to need a big dose of attention to be done properly which i haven't been able to do yet.
I can't pay my rent on time ever, I don't spend my money on anything other than food/transportation, and I live in this country. I'm 27 and I've never surpassed the poverty line here. I hear all this talk about what a rich country we have, but I don't see it that way. If charity starts at home, then help me out.

It's all about the distribution of wealth, of resources. When it comes down to it we're not as supportive of each other as we should be.
Happy Holidays! :)

I've always had trouble commiting to things, so I don't think I could do something like this, even if its for the better of the world.
Irover18 3 years ago
There's not much to commit to, all it takes is adding your voice to the chorus asking for world leaders to keep their promises to end poverty.
ghostwise 3 years ago
You are really inspiration for me and surely for other people as well. Keep it up Chris!

it shouldn't be a common situation in a country like Canada.
that's what happens when you factor in unbridled greed and self-centeredness into the equation.
