  • 1:05 to one oh nine

  • Those of us who grew up in the late 70's and early 80's were so lucky to have great music and great channels that we could actually see artists perform there songs.

  • Now this is some really cool sounding music here!!! :-D

  • 1:52...what the hell was that clunky keyboard maneuver?

  • I realized...he was 40 when he did this. It says something when you can have hits a generation removed.

  • I just love this song perhaps my favorite song from Donnie Iris and one of favorite 80's song! Rock on forever 80's!!!

  • this is really synched up badly... :( . whatta great song though!!!

  • Hah, Newest post right here!!

  • Love looking at the old technology. atari 1200xl, CRT screen and toward the end a board full of 16 pin through-hole IC chips.... gate logic I'm guessing.... VERY 80's.... Fun, Fun, Fun!!! Thanks for posting

  • sounds way off at 2:00 unless its just me hearing it that way but other than that Donnie Iris is 1 of the greatest Rock N' Roll singers/groups out there just to bad that the modern rock groups do not sound like this since just my opinion that they do NOT put any of their heart or soul into their songs unlike the groups from the 70's to the mid 90's

  • Obviously, two people did NOT compute!

  • Cheesy vid, but this a great song with good musicianship. Nothing to ridicule

  • Ah, If only I could re-live the summer of 1983 over and over and over. If I could do that, I'd never have to live my life without my beautiful Gina. She was the only one true love of my life.

  • decent musicians... fell prey to commercialism & MTV

any potential they may have had, this video did them in

  • He's asking david bowie if he computes lol

  • know i know why i never heard of this guy in the 80s .... he sucks ass and looks like buddy holly and elvis costello had anal sex and this was the bi product

  • this is what ac slater's and eugene levy's child would look like.

  • @kokoth hahaha, I can see that!

  • my God I forgot all about this little chestnut from 1982...83 maybe? Donnie could write a punchy pop hit in his sleep...killer guitar hooks.

  • 3:25 best vocals in a fadeout ever!

  • So 80's. Love it!

  • did ya notice all the actions are off, his mouth isnt in sink with the lyrics. lol does not compute , definietly done, smart.

  • Ahhhh, c'est Hall & Oats sans Oats!

  • I never heard this song before now, but it's pretty badass I think.

  • And Lily Tomlin on drums, ladies and gentlemen!!

  • The guy plaing the keyboards looks like he needs to take a leak...also Haselhoff would have fitted in this clip.

  • Comment removed

  • Is that Beverly DeAngelo??!

  • C crissement meilleure que Ocatvian etk !!

  • Le bassiste semble beaucoup trop motivé

  • This needs to be uploaded again or corrected. The audio doesn't match the video!

  • @DrVekk ... at a mall near you.

  • Ah ha! So, I wasn't the only one to have an Artari 1200XL!

  • he looks gross

  • Pittsburgh, Pa., U.S.A.

  • Du CHROMEO biiiin old fashion lol !!

  • do you computes lolll esti qu'c laid

  • i love the low production value. SO cool for the new age

  • was that Beverly D'Angelo?

    aka Ellen Griswold?

  • Holds up a hell of a lot better musically than you would think it should.

Wasn't a huge fan of this song when it came out; I missed the guitar crunch of his earlier hits...I appreciate it more now.

Here in the Northeast, DI still gets plenty of airplay...should have gotten a lot everywhere all along.

  • @Danimal14222

Compared to Shitney Spears and the other comedy acts that call themselves musicians...is it any wonder this song holds up well???

  • One of the guys looks like Elvis

  • His music is holding up very well.

  • The 2 guitarist are smokin hot! Yummmy!

  • The song is not in sync with the video!

What happened? Oh well. Its nicer picture quality than the other video posted.

Donnie KICKS ASS and this is one of his best tunes!

  • Quality stuff. My mom used to record videos off of TV in the early 80's and this one's on one of the tapes.

This video reflects Mr. Iris' partnership with the Atari company. He endorsed their computers and used them in the recording process on the album this song is from.

  • I think people have to keep in mind that this was way back in the early 80s when videos were just starting to become a common occurence in the music scene. As for Donnie who has lived his entire life in Pittsburg, I sense he and his friends got together to make these videos and kept things local. I don't think he was aiming for U2 status. Just a local guy making music for anyone who would listen. We need more 'real' downto earth musicians like this today.

  • @Delisle4 People all around the country know/or at least knew his music. There were minor national hits. They must have been heavy promotion to do that, I'm sure Donnie didn't want to just "stay local".

  • @krelbar

Fair enough, glad to see that he had a fair deal of success in the US. Did not hear much of him here in Canada but I was still in elementary school in the early 80s.

  • @Delisle4 Hell, yeah, so, where is Love Can Rock You? Previous album.

  • OMG luv luv luv this song one of my alltime favs from the 80s. Thanks for posting it

  • Donnie Iris, very underated. Should have been a superstar.

  • @ramitupursnout Comment must be from a relative.

  • This song has really grown on me

  • romaneeto.... DONNIE ROCKS!!!!!!!!! I have seen him live so many times I can't count he's very nice in person and humble! The live show's are just amazing most bands can't preform the way they do in the studio this is not true of DI and the Cruisers

  • Atari 1200 computer!! I had one of those dinosaurs

  • lol moi personellement jla trouve bonne XD

  • Donnie would like to thank Daryl Hall for letting him borrow John Oates. Great job John on the bass. Sorry, I can't help it. Do you compute bad jokes?

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again. Donnie Iris has to be one of the most underrated rockers of all time. Not the greatest videos but some pf the best tunes of the early 80's. Never had the pleasure of seeing him and his band live but from those that I have spoken to claim they put on a good show. One of my friends met him and said he was down to earth. That's good enough for me. Do you compute? Cutting edge song before Al Gore invented the internet. I'm cereal.

  • the woman in this video looks the same one from ah, leah! anyone know if that's true?

  • That's the chick from Rocky

    Just kidding my friend.

  • I thought the same thing----LOL.

  • DOLORACLIP LOL

  • looks like the son from mr belvedere on drums

  • People forget...video THEN vs. video NOW.

Donnie Iris and his band were beyond amazing; one of the first Pittsburgh bands to go video.

1982/83 - 25 yrs. later. Still NOT too bad.

  • Kneel at the COOL of Donnie Iris. Today's MTV is a vapid waste of oxygen.

  • Word, lemmy.

  • hey lemmycaution25. You nailed it!! Whatever happened to MUSIC-TV (MTV)--it doesn't exist anymore. I don't know where it went. I still remember friday night vidoes before cable and MTV. By the way, what do teens do for fun now--they sure don't cruz main on fri/sat night anymore. Even in a small/rural town it was packed with kids on tailgates in parking lots just hangin out and jammin with the radio too loud. We had fun and lived for the weekend. I don't know about now.

  • absolutely!!

  • @lemmycaution25 WORD!

  • @lemmycaution25 I couldn't of said it any better than that. MTV is awful! So is VH1!

  • Yeah its cheesy but MTV had just launched and this wasn't as cheesy as you may think.

Bottom line is the guy has talent and thats alot more than can be said for the trash out there now.

  • yea i agree i hate most of the new crap

  • this song release in 1981

  • its a catchy song thats for sure. but the VIDEO goes beyond most 80's cheese... this is a bad video haha

  • I recall 1984, I was 14 when I first heard this song and Donnie. I later learned that this song was a follow up to Ah!Leah and Love is Like A Rock. What can I say, very typical of the 80's, video and soundwise, but that is OK wit me. Donnie did not get the recognition that he deserved. Rock on!

  • Donnie Iris rules! Eat your heart out, Rivers Cuomo!

  • This song came out in 1984 or 1985, I believe, and a lot of people were expecting more "Love Is Like A Rock" or "Ah Leah" songs. But the album it was on (Fortune 410) really didn't have any songs like those, so it left a lot of Iris fans flat. I think this was a fun, kind of tongue-in-cheek song, but the chord progressions and keyboards made it sound like a serious song.

  • "Computers are, like, the future."

  • Hey, man, it was the early '80s. I personally like the video, but yes it is primitive. But Donnie Iris is one of the best singer/songwriter/performers EVER!!!!!!!!

  • It's no wonder nobody ever heard of this or saw this video...This blows.

  • Are you kidding? This was a major hit in the 80's. I love this song. Donnie Iris is a gret songwriter.

  • All right all right, you like the song.

I was referring to the song/video,not the the guy.Ah Leah is good but this seems *super* corny to me...eh,just my 02.

  • LOL, that was horrible. Required no skill to create that kind of sound.

  • one of my very favorites of 80s videos - i actually knew the "robo-chic" actress in the vid. check out donnies website for more.

  • He had a couple of good songs after this one...Samantha...Poletown...have to see if there's videos for them.

  • "Little Black Dress" off his new album is cool, check out his myspace page for that. There is a video of it as well.

  • Has to be one of the most underrated bands of the 80's. Heady lyrics and great use of the Atari keyboard...hee.....hee...

All joking aside, great music and one of my most favorite bands from the good ol' MTV days. I once asked my ex-wife that same question, "Do you compute?" Notice ex in the sentence. Great song but not to used for practical purposes. I ended up computing the loss in dollars and cents.

  • OMG, the keyboard solo at 2 mins is insane! XD

  • the "Buddy Holly" of the 80's

  • you take that back right now!!!

  • Ok, but it's the glasses 4 sure that led me to my conclusion

    btw, IRIS ROCKS!!!

    always has and always will!

  • This was a good sized hit song in the Louisville, Kentucky region during, what late 1982-early 1983? Donnie always had a decent sized fan base around here. WQMF 95.7 FM still plays "Ah, Leah" and you get "Love is like a rock" sometimes after midnight! Of course the local oldies channel spins, "The Rapper"!

  • man technology has come along ways dude and the audio sounds cleaner today.. i only like ah leah better then this

  • Atari 1200 Whoa! that thing is a fossil 10 mgbt of memory

  • is that billy joel on guitar haha

  • For the people bitchin about the quality, do us all a favor and post a better one

  • Would someone please post a good quality audio / video sync of this? It ticks me off when a great gem like this is on you tube and the quality sucks.

  • seriously, watch the video, it was originally made out of sync, it was the point of this tv show.

  • Agreed. This is a completely unacceptable post.

  • Wow... check out the rad piano solo at 2:05.

  • lolololololololololol

  • with that chick laying there, is he suppose to be working at the coroner's office or something? btw, nice atari computer from 1982.

  • Dude, he's maming a robot chick

  • wow he has a computer with a microwave monitor:O

  • Great tune.

  • in the words of my friend - this video threatens to lock away my brain forever in a desperate fugue, eternally searching for the words to describe it

  • Why wasn't this a HUGE hit in 1983? What a great song.

  • Man what a blast from the past! Totally forgot about this song...have it on an old worn out cassette buried around somewhere that I haven't heard for 25 years. Donnie's biggest hit was 'Ah Leah', but 'Do You Compute?' should have been his #1 hit. This song just kicks...amazing, after all these years, the emotion of this tune still gets it! (Especially with his smooth & haunting high pitched screams!) Awesome!!!

  • I totally get it I'm sittin here goin down memory lane... feel like I'm in high school again.. Donnie rockx

  • the 80's were so high tech looking, i love the Atari he is using!

  • lol awesome!

  • I couldn't agree more bugzappers2112. You hit the nail on the perverbial head. You listen to this song now and it has a whole new meaning. Back in 1983 one was thinking about a computer dump or download..."Do you Compute"?

  • Ah! the memories of back in the day! Great song.

  • wouache atari 1200 xl

    heille ca fait vraiment peur

  • DONNIE RULES!

  • Cool video, very 1980's

  • Wow......this is good, and it was NEVER played anywhere in the Pacific Northwest to my knowledge. When did this come out??? It makes me wonder how many OTHER good songs just were'd played on the radio in different parts of the US....... Why is that?

  • This song came out in the Summer of 1983. I remember it on the radio in the Midwest where I grew up. It our local Top 40. Nationally it only made it to #64. Great song though?

  • Who knew we would be commenting on this song in 2007 with a computer?

  • Funny comment but true :)

  • Cet qoui ¸¸¸¸¸¸¸¸ça callise

  • Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA's, FINEST!

  • His vocals are inimitable; long live Donnie Iris!!

  • Donnie grew up about 5 miles from where I work. met him and actually he has stopped in a few times.

    one cool dude

  • Is he still in the pittsburgh area?

  • Yes. Donnie is still proudly living in Beaver County just north of Pittsburgh

  • donnie was great...your audio and vid arent in sync but still a great video!!

  • The ultimate screamer. Donnie Iris rocks !

  • Oui~!

  • Awesome song, kinda takes u back.

  • I was looking for a band called Drive Like Jehu doing a song with the the same name. Ive just wet my socks laughing at the difference between the two. I can now say i love both equally. Couldnt be more different. Priceless.

Ah bon... Eugene Levy and Donnie Iris - yeah, they do alike. Equal talent at what they do too.

  • rewrite: they do look alike...

And I guess I meant "the bomb" - but I was replying to someone's French criticism - and it's missing now...?

  • love donnie...However, this is the cheesiest video ever made!

  • i ve seen worse

  • nothing can beat donnie live. even at his age he can still scream.

  • ATARI! HAHA

  • Merci beaucoup! Great blast from my past!

...do you compute???

  • I love this song. At least Donnie didn't look as dorky in this video as he did in "Ah Leah"
