  • I've been studying ancient Roman history, where slavery was quite common. & the differences between Roman & American slavery are striking. In the Roman Empire slavery was a social station. Anyone could be a slave, regardless of race if, e.g., they couldn't pay off a loan. One could & often did rise above that station, or fall to it as an adult. Manumission was common. American slavery was particularly abhorrent as an institution. Essentially race-supremacist, exploitative, & generally permanent.

  • HELLO EVERYBODY! I need you help! I am trying to find the name of an old african american movie that I watched when I was really little. I believe the movie was a made-for-TV movie by Oprah Winfrey. I only remember ONE thing about the movie... A woman's female child dies due to an illness. The child was anywhere from 6-13 years old. I remember her crying over her grave, but thats all I remember. I remember thinking that the movie was really sad, but also very good. If

  • @countrycat95 look on imdb and you should find it under her filmography

  • @countrycat95 Sorry.. Cant recall it.. But if i figure out any information about it. I`ll let you know.. xoxo

  • @countrycat95 - In the movie "Cora unashamed", the lady has a daughter to die; Cora had a biracial baby, and the people she worked for had a little girl that Cora began to think of as her own.. Hope this helps.

  • @dewberry70 Oh my goodness I think thats it!!! I looked it up, and it makes sense... do you remember what the child died of? Was it an illness? Did the lasy ever cry over the child's grave?

  • @countrycat95 The little girls name was Josie and the other little girl was Jessie. Josie had a really bad cough, and one night her throat closed and she could not get air in;. Her mother did make a tearful speech at her grave side. I think Youtube has the movie.

  • i love this movie ciecly tyson did that ! being young and watching this makes me wake up and see everything that happened so that we can live a life like we do. i hate that so many people take for granted what was done so we wouldnt have to see a life as such. i wish this was a true story !

  • This is a African-American Classic! I watch this as a child and I was impressed with the telling of Miss Jane Pittmans' story. In my opinion our young men and women should see this presentation. It wouldn't hurt for our ELDERS to re-visit their "ROOTS" either.

    Ms V
