the c3 is a great reel my dad used it for 20years then gave it to me cause he bought a c4 but then finally the c3 gave out on me but i goin this weekend the 6600 c4 cant wait
Gangsta rap and thumb rings ? My , how things have changed. Why weren't they playing heavy metal to get my attention back in the day ? Thats right, because i already liked fishing. But anyway, the new 5501 c3's arent very good. I had one i bought in 2002 and it held up to 10 years of abuse. I went to replace it...the new c3's are not good. The casting drags arent as smooth and they look cheaply built. The 6501 are still really good but i think they cheaped on the 5501.
@QRC19900 The models with a 6600 have a thumb bar that disengages the spool and the 5500 models have a push button design that is located towards the top of the side plate on the handle side.
@Turkiller123 Hi if you want a comparable model you'll want to pick up the 6600 C4. That most likely was a special make up that came and went. The models with a 6600 have a thumb bar that disengages the spool and the 5500 models have a push button design.
I have a c3 4600 round reel and I get great enjoyment using it. However, I'm a newby with baitcasters and I've been using spinning reels for some 45years or so. So I get backlash even though I set the tension spool correctly. I find I get more backlash when casting lighter lures (10 grams). Anything around 25 to 30grams flies like a breeze. Question: is that normal or is there something I'm not doing right? No centrigugal brakes on this reel? What's your advice?
@prevalain It takes a little bit of practice to get a handle on it but with time it will come. Start by over tightening the spool tension knob and slowly backing it off with each cast. Remember that you might have to use your thumb a bit to control the speed of the spool to keep it from backlashing.
just wanted to know if you dicontinued the 6500 c3 inshore model? if so, why? i bought one last year and love it! stainless gears was a great idea, this thing is a tank. are the parts from the regular 6500 c3 compatable with the c3 inshore?
@mumbleye Hi thanks for reaching out to us. Yes we did discontinue the Inshore model. We agree it was a great reel but not enough retailers carried it for us to produce it. Yes some parts are compatible between the models. If you would like to contact our service department feel free to visit Abu Garcia dot com and click on the support tab. We'd be happy to let you know which ones.
Hey, i'm from Chile and i fish mainly in saltwater specially focused in the corvina (Cilus gilberti) known cuz of the great battle it gives. Would u recomend this reel for it? i'm talking about surf casting wiht mainly lures (Crankbaits and fish style swimming lures) or yu have an other Abu Garcia for that purpose?
@AbuGarciaTV Ok, and as a last recomendation: Which one do you prefer for that purpose: C3-C4 or the Revo Toro Wincher? (I gotta admit i fell in love with the look of the Revo Toro Wincher). I was thinking in the Revo Toro Wincher 61 but i'll finally will do what u recomend me. Greetings.
PS: The most important part for me is the low weight lures casting.
I have a major problem I bought this reel less than a month ago and the handle turns back a bit when I stop reeling kinda like a crappy spinning reel does. and I have only used it for bass so it's not from a big fish. Can someone please help
Ive had a 6500 C3 for over a year and i love it!! I fish at dams were its all rock and it been dropped many many times, but every time i use it it feels new!! Abu for life!
@fishinglover22 Just like any baitcast reel. Just depress the thumb bar on the right side of the frame and release the spool with your thumb at the proper point in the cast.

Are the 5500/6500LC reels C3 or C4? What's the difference? Where are the line counter reels made? I do not want any reel made in china!
captainpegs07 1 month ago
@captainpegs07 Hi The 5500/6500 Line Counters are made in Sweden under the C3 family.
