There is a Book By Slydini which has the actual way of doing the trick I haven't seen it explained on DVD. I know the trick and their is a sleight which I posted , only the sleight . Can't find the post so I won't even mention the sleight it is his book sold by Penguin 366 pages with explanations of several tricks plus the double DVD buy them and you will learn all about a lot of his tricks and lots of practice . Do his tricks but no one can Do them like Him.
@styobysorrento What are you talking about? I totally support the art of magic. Where in my post here did I say anything bad about magic or for that matter the legends? I admire all the greats and couldn't agree with you more.

I am a coin guy...and the coin trick was awesome but I just don't understand card tricks in my opinion they are boring to do and boring to see....sorry for any guys obsessed with cards....go coins!!!!!
He is the best, I studied with the Man, he would be working the same act if he was here.Slydini is the kind of Artist that would Always be working. Now Then a thousand years from now. You youngins have so much to learn.
I have his books and I know exactly how he does it. But knowing what he is doing and catching him doing it are two different things. He is so smooth, you just can't catch him. His moves are so imperceptible that it seems like real magic.
His style wouldn't work today, but the technique is still amazing.
There are two great sets of books on Slydini. The first is "The Best of Slydini and more." The second is "The Magical World of Slydini." The coins across routine you are referring to is on page 46 of "The Magical World..." However, if you are learning Slydini magic for the first time, I would recommend "The Best of..." as it explains more of the theory and thinking behind his effects. Note that his magic depends a lot on timing and can be quite difficult as a result.
Cloudkill, also, I would recommend that you start with his coins through the table routine that starts with 6 coins (half dollars or silver dollars) and an English penny and then work through the 4 coin routine down to the one coin routine. The one coin routine is amazing.
The big issue with his magic in today's world is that you have to be sitting to do most of it and most venues for closeup magic lend themselves to having the magician standing.
Why do you say that his style "wouldn't work" today? Could you elaborate? I only know that I showed my girlfriend this and another Slydini clip I found here on youtube and she acted like she thought it was one of the most entertaining magical performances she'd ever seen. So, again, can you tell me why you think "his style wouldn't work today"?
There is more emphasis on the overall "entertainment experience" today. Slydini was amazing, but his "I am going to fool you, you can't catch me" style I think would be a turn off for most modern audiences. You have to be entertaining, tell a story and have some humor these days. Slydini had none of that. He was very direct. i am going to fool you, here is my trick. No story, just a trick. Most people don't want that kind of dry straight forward presentation sytle.
Okay, thanks for the explanation. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I trend to strongly disagree. I believe Slydini "got away" with performing as he did then, and would now as well, was he still alive, simply BECAUSE he was Slydini, and had the personality to "pull it off". Conversely, MOST magicians wouldn't have "gotten away with" that style then either. I don't think he was "dry" at all, but had a very entertaining -- and unique -- style. And THAT's what "makes" a performer.
Who say Vernon is better than Sly the person must be a talkative just like Vernon...in otherwords you should say he's better in sleight of mouth not sleight of hand than slydini who uses nice classical music in the bacground and let the magic speak for its self
are you insane? vernon was awesome, and was a lot more mystifying, slydini is a true master, but he did not act like a real magician, due to his attitude, he humiliated his auddiences telling them they would not see him do anything, and thats what magic is not about, vernon on the other hand took you to a world were everything is possible, a real magic world. slydini sleight of hand is great, the only thing that he lacked was a better attitude as a magician
Actually I saw him live in 79 at magic convention, and he charmed the hell out of everyone.Yes Vernon was the man,but Slydini was in his own league. My girlfriend at the time felt he was the only real magician she had ever seen.
One thing you all HAVE to keep in mind is that Slydini had NO formal training growing up. He created all of his own magic! This is one of the reasons he is such an important part of magic is because he's a perfect example of making magic your own. It pisses me off to hear people want to know how this trick works..the man spent his entire life creating his art.
@eatonmagic You are wrong my friend. Dai Vernon, Slydini, Kaps, Wonder etc. did build the foundation of close-up magic and we the students of magic need to study, learn & understand their work for they may be Giants and we only Midgets but we can step on their shoulders and see further.
@eatonmagic You are so wrong on sooooooo many levels. His father was a magician, not a popular one but he was one. He urged Tony to learn sleights at an early age. Although he made his own sleights, he had very much formal training.
@kikook222 Right you are his father started him and he did it his way which was Fantastic . A good friend of mine had Lunch with Slydini every Saturday , He owned a magic store and was the President of the Society of American Magicians in the 70's . No one should Talk like him, do your own thing . He was also a tailor and made his own costumes. His tricks should not be done unless they are perfected .The first thing he taught his student's was how to walk out on Stage !
No it's not.. you can see in the last trick where Tony puts the card down, he palmed it beautifully.. his comment is valid... it's hard to palm like that guy did.
