  • Being Gay is not natural. Stop acting like its normal cause its not. Natural is when a Man and woman get married and "concieve" childeren. Gays can't do that. If a wife and husband walk around a park holding hands with kids playing thats normal. Its not the same when 2 men are holding hands. People would feel weird because its just not normal. i believe it also confuses childeren. If Gays get their way the huuman race will be wiped because we will not be able to reproduce.

  • yeah because gays mission is to turn everyone gay

despite the fact if you are gay you are born that way and dont choose it

  • Chief, maybe people would feel "weird" because it's something they're not used to seeing, and they've been taught that it's a bad thing. Kids aren't born anti-gay, you know. A 3 year old child does not automatically start spouting anti-gay views unless that child has been told bad things about gay people by an adult. Prejudice isn't something you're born with. When I was a little kid, I thought men holding hands was fine, because I was used to it. It wasn't weird or foreign or confusing at all.

  • What kind of drugs are you on?????

  • "Let thee among you with out sin be the first to Condemn" And I'm pretty sure you've sinned. Cause we're human and we all do. So, to put it simply. Christians who are condemning people to hell, shut up.

  • Vote Yes on 1 .....

because penises in rectums are not a family value.

  • you're right, its a personal, private matter...

  • Spooder, why are you reducing human beings to a single sexual act? That doesn't even make sense to me. Gay people love their spouses and children and want to protect them, just the same way that straight people do. Those are family values, and it's the same for all families.

  • Well said, rainbowheartgirl! It doesn't matter what a couple does in the privacy of their own bedroom; what matters is the love they have for each other and their family. If two people want to make that kind of commitment to each other, what right does anyone have to get in their way?

  • You do realize that gays having a family other than fathers/mothers/brothers/sisters is only like 30 years old.

My tradition goes back 6,000 years with no medically artificial means necessary to have family.

Real gays can't reproduce and thus must either adopted kids or have medically induced artificial means to Lesbians to have babies. You still need sperm from men to have babies, period.

I understand you, but artificial only can mean having a artificial lifestyle to begin with.

  • Spooder, "real gays?" What, are there fake ones? But seriously, what you say makes no sense. In the first place, gay people have *always* had children, even if it was in the context of hetero marriages. So your great-grandfather might have been gay, and you didn't even know it. But, yes, sure, they've only been able to have kids *openly* since the 70s. So what? There's nothing fake or artificial about their children. Who cares how the kids are born? We're here, aren't we? We do exist.

  • A "real" gay can't bring himself/herself to having sex with the opposite sex. Thus, how can they spead their so-called dominant gay gene making them gay and keep gays coming into the world?

How do you have kids *openly* since you adopt them who don't have gay genes to begin with. Also, the arguement that 'well, Lesbians who are artificially inpregnanted are putting gay genes into their babies works, but what about before artificial reproduction?

The 'we gays had hetero marriages...cont.

  • cont. had hetero marriages so that we could keep reproducing gay people' arguement is so lame.

No one thinks that deeply and that far ahead in their actions to declare "I must be the one to save and keep the gay race alive and going...SO, I will go against my desires and have sex with the opposite sex for gay gene propagation purposes".

Give me a break! People do what they desire, NOT what they don't desire!

Your saying ALL gays are basically bisexuals having hetero sex every...cont.

  • cont. having hetero sex once every blue moon just to make sure the 'gay race' is kept alive and kicking is hereditary BS!

Any gay havig sex with a staight person of the opposite is purely a choice. Furthermore, that militates against the inner desires of all real gays to be with and only want sexual contact with persons of the same sex, period.

This hardly produces babies. I guess the next excuse is 'well the sperm came from gay guys for inplantation'.

Our genes make us do it flops.

  • Spooder, um, what? "Real" gays? "Dominant" genes? I don't think you even know much about sexual orientation or how it works. It's based on who you're attracted to. A gay man can have sex with a woman; he's just not sexually attracted to women. And millions of gay men have done so throughout history. Many, even most, "real" gays have at least experimented with the opposite sex. It doesn't make them not gay or any less gay.

  • And Spooder, there's no gay "race." It has nothing to do with "dominant" genes. As far as scientists can tell, sexual orientation is *not* directly hereditary. That's why the vast majority of bio kids of gay and lesbian parents are straight. If it was a direct, dominant gene, the numbers would be totally reversed. And what does any of this have to do with marriage and families? No matter how we kids are conceived, we still exist. We're not going to disappear, and neither are our parents.

  • These elections about human rights are so exhausting and they bring out the worst in people. Gay people have to endure having every aspect of their lives scrutinized and attacked. They have to listen to fundamentalists tell them they're going to hell. Then they're supposed to smile and not get angry when their rights are taken away.

Btw, God says you CAN be gay and a Christian. Repenting of being gay, no matter how much you do it, doesn't make you straight.

  • Oh dear, now we are getting the religious fanatics in an uproar. You are not Christian if you deny anyone their right to live freely. So much judging and finger pointing, it's ridiculous. Elementary kids aren't taught sex education in class..get a grip, and by the time they are of age, middle school, high school, you act as if they aren't exposed enough from friends and media, give me a break. The whole kids taught in school about same sex marriage argument is a joke.

  • Good lord, what does same sex marriage have to do with children. It's about 2 consenting adult entering into a legal contract.

If same sex marriage is taught in school, then parents should have the option to opt out.

Gay people are being denied rights because of this. I say, lets make it a non issue and give parents that right.

We need to look at the bigger picture.

  • Just reading some of these comment and thinking how much I hate religion.

I dont believe in equality for all but I do believe gays should be allowed to marry.

Its just such a stupid argument, cant wait to see the outcome of the vote so we can "basically" get it over with. Yes or No.

  • pedophilia has nothing to do with two individuals who can both equally consent. That's the difference and that's why it'll never be legally recognized.

  • Taipan, pedophilia is illegal. Being gay is not. Please don't try to compare apples with oranges... that's not right and it hurts Maine families.

  • How is a loving relationship degenerate? you can't seriously compare the rape of a young child to a consentual loving relationship between two adults. How is allowing two people to marry affecting anyone else in a negative way? How is that "special" rights? is it diminishing or above anyone elses? Homosexuality is common among many species, it's hardly a new phenomena and completely natural. To claim all these things without experience, fact or reasoning is simply tragic.

  • first off gays and pedophiles two different things

second wanting equal rights is not wanting special rights

  • consent, these people that compare non-hetero's to pedophiles are forgetting that important thing "consent". There are far more opposite-sex pedophiles and yet hetero's are not being called pedophiles or banned from adoption or marriage. These anti-gay people give me a head ache.

  • I am holding a vision of faith and love in Maine, that majority will vote to uphold marriage equality and protect ALL of Maine's families and children.

  • Outsiders....nice euphemism for SOUTHERNERS! BIBLE-THUMPING COUSIN-HUMPING, SOUTHERN RED-STATE REPUBLICAN REDNECKS......sorry for spoiling the PCness.

  • Hey, not all Southerners are inbred morons. Spoken as a South Carolina native currently living in North Carolina who is a libertarian and donated grocery money to No on 8 in CA. I understand the generalization, but there are good people here.

  • dont forget the mormons out of utah

  • Of course they are. Scare tactics always work the best.

  • Are they showing the same 'king/king' commercial there too?

  • Homoliciousness, I bought the book "King and King" this past weekend, and I thought it was a very beautiful and joyous book :).

  • Stooge, Your basis for you argument is flawed, and unrealistic. You must be one who supports the unfair treatment of others. I'm sure that if you were alive in the times of the civil war you would have been against the motion to stop slavery. This is about equal rights, not about religion. My best friend, who is a lesbian, is a CHRISTIAN. Her priest says that there is nothing wrong with her way of life because that is how "God" created her. The world doesn't run on biased opinions. Deal with it.

  • Logofree, Why don't you leave the judging of others faith up to God. You clearly are not qualified.

  • Stooge...whether you are catholic, baptist, quaker, pentecostal, or jehovah's witness, you have to realise that America is a democratic nation who believes in justice for ALL...not just for Christians but for every law-abiding (this is questionable at times, but such is life, eh?) citizen out there. Like it or not, religion HAS NO SAY in how its citizens should be governed. America is not a theocracy.

  • stoogewatcher, your comment about me being liberal was taken out of context. i have my own beliefs, both political and spiritual. calling people anti-democracy is ridiculous because the american democracy i know values equality and respect.

  • hey mainers, i'm from california so this reminds me of the 'prop 8' bs...and i remember voting no. remember their is a plan B: if maine takes away civil rights, you can put up a new ballot initiative that reinstates civil rights. thats the best i can think of. their is also a pending case against 'prop 8' going to the US supreme court, wooho!

  • I thought you liberals were all about democracy. I guess we know where the anti-democracy people stand.

  • Stooge, issues of minority rights and civil rights should NEVER be brought to a popular vote. The religious and social conservative movement should loose tax exemption in their dedication to forming this country into a theocracy. We are no a theocracy, we are barely a democracy. We're a constitutional republic which was founded on the common principles of treating all citizens with equal protection under the law. Unfortunately, we still have some work to do to reach that end.

  • They will probably teach math, science, English, and history. Like they are supposed to.

  • Just like your activists on trying get creationism in public schools which is no educational benefit,

  • voteyesonquestion1, are you gay and resent it to the point of stripping gay people of their dignity and respect with your words? Can a person who disrespects others regardless of differences be considered a good person?

  • The gays and lesbians who want to marry are not the ones sleeping around. This is not about sex for us, except in the most tangential way. Sex is not the biggest thing in my life. I think a lot more about cooking and photography than sex. Marrying gays and lesbians are the most mainstream of homosexuals, the ones who just want to be an ordinary part of the fabric of society.

  • just another lie spread by the anti equality group

  • How sad another CA thank god i voted no on 8..

Hopefully in 30 years from now we look bad at all these propositions and see how discriminatory we where. Im straight but lets c what Maine voters do hopefully they will give same sex couples the right to marry.

  • Funny how you say "Thank God" and yet you want to get rid of Christianity.

  • Funny how you claim to be a Christian and your hating other minorities and degrading other human beings.

The word Thank god is a slang word and i just got use to saying it even though im not religious

  • Not the Christians I know...they feel more embarrassed by the likes of those who use their faith as a vehicle to propagate discrimination, division, and bigotry.

  • For the record, I'm Catholic.

  • Stooge,

For a Catholic, you have a pretty anti-Vatican view on homosexuality and Christianity. Roman Catholicism, despite being on the forefront of the fight in Maine, still preaches to embrace sinners, irregardless of the sin in question. I am gay. I am Catholic (one cannot truly stop being Catholic). In being so, even the RCC recognizes that sexual sins are not an act enough to merit excommunication or exclusion from the body of Christ. Only backwards diocese do that...

  • I forgot where in the law they say we should shun and exclude christian children. (Which by christian I assume you exclude Lutherian Unionist Anglicans and other gay friendly churches). I'm sure you'll tell me where? Nah, FUD and scare tactics as usual.

  • StoogeWatcher, I don't understand how you lump all gay people together as shunning and excluding Christians, as I don't see any good that comes from stereotypes and generalizations. There are gay and straight people who either like or don't like Christianity for whatever reasons, and there are gay and straight Christians for that matter. What I don't like are people who vote to take away my civil rights just because I'm gay and disrespect me because of it, whether or not they are Christians.

  • I am a liberal gay Christian. You don't hold a monopoly on being Christian StoogeWatcher

  • Great ad!

This will take Mainer's emotions by storm and help them realize how unfair it is to take family rights away.

  • This is a really good one!!

  • the silly part of thinking your kid won't learn about married lesbians/gays in school is that the children of married gays/lesbians are already in school and talking about their parents and their family.

  • The flaw with assuring people that schoolchildren will not be taught about same-sex marriage is that it buys into the underlying argument that children shouldn't hear about same-sex marriage. How about saying, "Teachers aren't going to say anything for or against ANY kind of marriage -- and if they did, so what? Are kids supposed to get all their ideas about families from 'Leave it to Beaver'? How much does your family resemble the Cleavers?"

  • @azelmaroark: very well said.

  • AWESOME!

  • Also, for pete's sake, go on the offensive. Find THE most hateful, bigoted and ridiculous thing Yes's leaders have EVER said. Plaster it on every television in Maine in 200-pt font. There are a number of fine statements of bigotry to choose from, so it shouldn't be hard. Be frank and grim about the consequences of 1 passing: tell people what will happen to same-sex families and insinuate that Yes does not care about protecting THESE children.

If you won't play hardball, Yes will.

  • YES on azelmaroark's strategy! NO on 1!

  • Guys, seriously: *say it*. "SAME-SEX MARRIAGE CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE TAUGHT IN MAINE SCHOOLS. HERE IS WHY. ERGO, YESONONE IS LYING." This is a nice ad, but "nice" doesn't win elections. You can't expect your audience to make the leap in logic that you're asking them to make. You said Yesonone was lying, but you didn't tell us how or why. Do that, and you have a chance.

  • I think this is a great ad. It acknowleges that gay people's rights are on the line and doesn't back down. Gay people have everything to be proud of.

    Vote NO on Question 1

  • You guys still aren't directly stating that it will not be taught in schools. Also, it is important to show more prominently that all Maine families deserve legal protections and that the Domestic Partnership law is very insufficient, and that Maine children will benefit from these protections.

  • I'm hoping fear and ignorance don't win again, I'm voting NO on 1.

  • I LOVE THIS AD! I am going to try and donate as much as I can!

  • YES! On the right track! Keep hammering those anti-equality folks back and calling them out on their lies!

  • Is it me or does this seem like a No on 8 commercial? I feel as if they are using the same formula attacking back as they did out here in California. I feel they need to use actual gay and lesbian citizens along with people of color, different background ethnicity's and their families. I believe this was also brought up on several occasions to where they didn't showcase our lives enough. This is just my opinion

  • There were two gay families in the ad. Other No on 1 ads also featured gay and lesbian families.

The number of people of color in Maine is really, really small. That's likely why you don't see lots of people of color in teh ads.

  • I think these are No on 8 commercials "plus." There are gay families in the ad!

  • rg0057, feel free to let me know what you think of a response video that I worked on last night:

    watch?v=0RFOxwdviEk

  • rg0057: The fatal flaw in your comment is that it makes no sense. I read your first sentence three times and still have no idea what you are trying to say.

  • The issue of gay marriage and schools boils down to treating everyone with respect and dignity. We are smart enough to know the difference between believing in something and understanding something, and we are secure inside ourselves that our beliefs will not be compromised by our understanding of something. Thank you for sending a message to Maine that all children should feel safe and welcome at our schools; it's a message that everyone needs to see and hear. Well done!

  • Great ad! No child should be made to feel like they need to hide who they are or the family that they come from. There's enough room in the states for ALL types of families.

  • I mean you should ad the woman on yes on 1 ad is not public school teacher and there is no law requiring children having to learn that in public school.
