actualy mat dorson gave wilkinson that split second more time to kick because he appeals for off side in the ruck by raising his hands and the aussies retreat giving wilko that millie second to kick and stopping george gregan the charge down
@soaresfranco100 Fast forward to RWC 2011. England vs France in QF. Jonny Wilkinson left on bench after lifting the chokers tag from the Mighty All Blacks all by himself. Retired from international rugby soon afterwards. He's no Dan Carter you Portugeeeeeser. Stick to your football.
oh my that song is so fitting, as for the drop kick, to kick with your normal foot under that pressure is extreme enough, to do it with your weaker foot is unbelievable. Best fly-half england have ever had
@James. The point is it was a set up practiced move. More credit goes to Martin johnson. As he came rushing into the ruck, told Neil back not to take the pass, so they could free Dawson allowing the scrum half to make the pass. The move was rehearsed any half decent kicker could get the drop goal. It was not all johnny wilkinson it was a massive team effort. The whole team worked to get him into that spot. It was hardly Rob Andrew's 1995 quarter final kick that was almost halfway line.
@dodgey212 dude wow k cool he made a crucial kick in a massive game but what he has accomplished in his career will never even come close to dan carters dominance of the fly half spot over the last decade.......your obviously a bias englishman
@ironzy1 Affraid not, i am not english, i am south african, In fact i prefer to watch johney any time because he is a better tackler and covers more group to make the pass, And also im affraid that Dan carter will never win a worldcup in such dramatic style, guess your a bias new zelander?, it doesnt matter who is better we all have our opinion, for me its johney always
@ironzy1 Carters dominance over the last decade? More like 4 or 5 years and Jonny dominated the time upto 2003. He was then injured after that and came back to play well rugby in 2007 world cup where Carter failed to deliver. I agree Carter is currently best 10 i n the world but needs a world cup to match what Jonny has achieved(which he should get this time round). Both great players.
@MrSRA13 Jonny Wilkinson - RWC 2011 world cup choker. Left on the bench in French QF. Retired soon afterwards. Dan Carter marches on to higher accolades.
This is the single most important kick in the history of Rugby. This kick was the one kick that showed that it wasn't just the Southern Hemisphere teams that were able to win the RWC.
It also beat Australia on their own turf, which is always nice.
@greghmn That's correct, he's left footed. I might be wrong, but I also think that the kick with his wrong foot was also his only successful drop goal attempt of that match.
England beating the Aussies in their own backyard. Fantastic. Oh how they screwed. We outsang them it was like a home match for us. I don't think they could even believe it!
I disagree with the uploader saying how it was a one man feat. It was a set move it wasn't a piece of individual brillience where he just pulled it out of the bag. If anything more credit should go to dawson for seeing the gap the aussies left cause they were watching jonny, making a good 20m, and then johnson for perfectly calling the play to drive into the ruck to free dawson for the winning pass to wilkinson. That drop goal was a massive team effort.
@mykeday i'm not sayin that it was jonny wilkinson alone that made england win a world cup. I do agree with you that it was a team effort. I'm just saying in terms of the actual kick itself, it was a massive achievement. But i do appreciate what your sayin =)
@MurtaghCathal lesser kickers would have cracked under pressure with that drop goal in an unreal situation like that, and it was on a slanted angle from 23 out, hated watching that moment but props to johnny and england for a great game
