I'm not sure how well Cantrell's solo efforts sold, but I'm thinking it wasn't anywhere near the amount AIC has sold! Hell, I'm willing to bet that the new album (Black Gives Way To Blue) has already out sold either of Cantrell's solo CD's?! It probably out sold both of them put together?! I don't know this for fact - I'm just guessing...

I listen to AIC from 13 years old now im 26 and the band is reuniting under the banner of our dear Layne with a new voice and new ideas.

I'm happy to see the new record out,a few of the songs have a very similar whiney guitar vibe that is cool but can get a little annoying when its in too many songs.I'm liking the melower melodic tracks,such as the title track and your decision,Private hell sounds the most like a traditional AIC song.Again,I am glad there are "all in" in this new chapter of the band that we love.Layne's voice is not replaceable but WD is a very good singer in his own right.I've seen them live with him twice.

DuVall is a permanent fill-in more than a replacement. A replacement is something that is identical to its counterpart. ACDC is the most recognizable band I can think of that got a replacement singer because he sounds exactly the same.
No one can sound like Layne. Scott Weiland is probably the closest and his high vocals sound nothing like Layne.
Layne is irreplacableable. Cantrell has said it himself numerous times. Notice how the band has a different singing style in new album? Hmmm...

As much as i love Layne i think that you need to move on, they paying respect to the one of the greatest front man of the grunge area with this album...we need to be open to changes and i remember when i was driving in my car here in miami and i heard the new song being played on the radio gave me chills to hear these guys back and for a second i thought i heard Layne..i saw Jerry live once and he played Down in a Hole and dedicated to Layne i saw a lot of people with teary eyes including me.
I got to hand it to them & Pearl Jam. They're doing something Nirvana hasn't done. But I can't really blame Nirvana, since Kurt was too great and hard to replace. I think its an insult to deny the rest of the band a chance to continue creating because they, sadly, lost their singer. If the band is a body, the members r limbs, or branches. I guess some would see no point in continuing living if they lost one limb.

They have been pretty good about addressing Layne not being in the band. It's not like they are trying to pull a fast one. If the three left want to make music together, why not. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why taking a new name for the new band would have worked against them. And no offense, but Jerry Cantrell is an amazing musician, implying that he isn't just makes you look silly. One of the most distinctive characteristics of AIC was Layne and Jerry's voices together.

He named his band Alice and Chains and Jerry through out Alice In Chains, and the name stuck.
Layne said they were a metal band that dressed in drag...thus Alice and Chains...Face lift came out throwing out the make-up and leaving the bad ass bad they are known as today.
Layne started Alic n chainz, and then the group fell through, jerry cantrell made a band called diamond lie, but when the 2 projects failed, AIC was born.
So far I have downloaded "Check My Brain" & "A Looking in View" and they are both great songs. Even without Layne this band is still better than most bands that are out right now. I could eat a can of alphabet soup and crap out better retort than all the duVall haters on here.

This sounds horrible. It sounds like a paint-by-number AIC knockoff. There is so much more soul in that background clip of Man in the Box than in any of the new songs.

As much as i love Layne i think that you need to move on, they paying respect to the one of the greatest front man of the grunge area with this album...we need to be open to changes and i remember when i was driving in my car here in miami and i heard the new song being played on the radio gave me chills to hear these guys back and for a second i thought i heard Layne..i saw Jerry live once and he played Down in a Hole and dedicated to Layne i saw a lot of people with teary eyes including me.

I got to hand it to them & Pearl Jam. They're doing something Nirvana hasn't done. But I can't really blame Nirvana, since Kurt was too great and hard to replace. Maybe it's for the best that Nirvana stopped. Because I'm a Nirvana fan, & I could see them not doing so well if thet got a new guy to play lead guitar n' sing. But R.I.P. to both Layne and Kurt...

Everyone wants to say it's so wrong for AIC to keep their name, they just want fame, Jerry should have chose this one or that one to sing...Jerry Cantrell was closer to Layne than any one of us. AIC was the vehicle Jerry used to express alot of shit (remember he wrote ALL music & MOST lyrics) and he obviously had more stuff to get off his chest through this band. BTW, the new stuff sounds pretty fuckin' close to Staley-era AIC.

Who are you to say he wouldn't be supportive. His mother, Nancy is. If you know anything about Layne Staley, you know he had a heart. Have you ever stopped to think that as long as AIC continues to make music, there is the chance that they will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame? When that happens, (and it should) Layne will be inducted posthumously. If there was ever an innovative, original sounding singer, it was Layne. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Be supportive!

Why do people complain that Alice in Chains continues to make music without Layne? "His spirit has been copied and its wrong!" they say. To them, the lead singer makes the band; take the head, kill the body, right?
I think its an insult to deny the rest of the band a chance to continue creating because they, sadly, lost their singer. If the band is a body, the members r limbs, or branches. I guess some would see no point in continuing living if they lost one limb.

They have been pretty good about addressing Layne not being in the band. It's not like they are trying to pull a fast one. If the three left want to make music together, why not. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why taking a new name for the new band would have worked against them. And no offense, but Jerry Cantrell is an amazing musician, implying that he isn't just makes you look silly. One of the most distinctive characteristics of AIC was Layne and Jerry's voices together.

Alice in Chains had every right to go on. I was their damn band too. Jerry cantrell wrote most of the songs. It's not their fault Layne died the way he did. Think of them. Technically Alice In Chains was Layne's band. I do agree with you otherwise though.
He named his band Alice and Chains and Jerry through out Alice In Chains, and the name stuck.
Layne said they were a metal band that dressed in drag...thus Alice and Chains...Face lift came out throwing out the make-up and leaving the bad ass bad they are known as today.

Alice in Chains has moved on with a great new frontman. I will always love the Layne-era Alice in Chains, and looks like I will continue to love Alice in Chains.
