As with any other form of restraint, crosstie training should be systematic and thorough. Then this can be a safe and very useful method of tying because it allows the handler easy access to all parts of the horse. Never leave a horse unattended in crossties. Procedures that frighten a horse or make him unruly should not be done with the horse in crossties.
You forgot to mention how they may evade by rearing up in crossties and flip over backwards.
This may cause concussion when the head slams the floor. Resulting in death.
