Will my dog come to heaven with me... he has a good animal-ality... he also has a soul because when you look into his eyes you can see he is alive and has feelings.
I'm going to give some credit to religious people because without the bible they would be lost. For the rest of us, who can accept that bad and good things happen in life, which are not caused by a magical, all powerful being.
As time goes by, an exponential amount of people are removing themselves from the self enslavement of religion. Before they do, they have to feel comfortable that the Church, and all their followers won't disenfranchise this person and their family from the community.
The Bible already predicted this. Man will destroy themselves ultimately by trying to become GOD through technological body enhancements. Knowing GOD is not a physical thing that you get by changing your body...it starts in the heart in the spirit of a person...where they learn truths, how to love, be patient, understand....JESUS said that He was the way the life and TRUTH, no man comes to the Father but through Him only. Jesus Christ = absolute truth= enlightenment and true wisdom.
@kristimjlove You don't need Jesus or God to be a decent human being. If that were true, and you needed these religious/supernatural figures to be tolerant to others... then what is this purpose of our existence? Unfavorably pointless if you ask me, there's no purpose if everything is already written to fail. It's God's way of saying "I've created you to worship me, defy me and you'll burn forever and forever." Use your brain mate. This is the 21st Century.
@Sean19a7x2 Jesus is perfection, purity. You young man are a sinner- and Christ is the spiritual bridge to perfection. There is only one absolute truth when it comes to GOD, Jesus Christ said He was that absolute. He died for your sins so that you could be reconnected with GOD because of your seperation due to sin. If you understand GOD you would know that you would whole-heartly want to worship HIM. He created you because He loves you, not because He wants to force you to worship HIM.
@kristimjlove I have no way of answering this without sounding harsh. There's just no reasoning with you people, it's all a black and white ideology, God or the Devil...
@Sean19a7x2 When the singularity occurs the mark of the beast will be implemented...a mark in the right hand or in the forhead, you won't be able to buy or sell without it. Put 2 and 2 together- the microchip implant will not only "enhance" one's thinking capabilitys along with augmentation, but you will also be able to store financial transactions on the chip. The Bible predicted satan would counterfeit the Holy Spirit, by implementing the mark which creates the Holy Spirit- but the HIVE MIND.
I think religion is fine for some if it keeps them sane in an insane world but not to use to judge and to hide behind to do it. people are all very different and should be allowed to be as long as they don't hurt others. and as for machines, computers and technology becoming like humans, they will never be but at some point it will be hard to tell the difference.
@tesla2115 religious belief by definition is insane.
if someone told you they believed the universe existed entirely inside the anus of an unimaginably huge pink unicorn being ridden by charlton heston because it was written in an old book, would you think they were SANE?
there is no good reason to believe any of the fantastical claims made by any religion, big or small.
I think there is one major issue that is being overlooked, and that is how people will react when confronted with the reality that soon, computing power is going to reach the point where our own humanity becomes a manufactured good. Oh and not to mention, what would Bill Maher think if machines had religion?!?
@MikeDeFi at this point computers, due to their fundamental binary nature, operate ENTIRELY on logic (on or off, simple as that) there's absolutely no reason to think they'll ever develop irrational/illogical thoughts and turn them into a mass delusion. the only way this could happen would be by outside (human) intervention with some kind of virus.
religious belief is a mental plague, and it poisons everything.
WHOA FELLAS, I'm on your side! Would someone afflicted with religion really have Bill Maher's tweets sent to their phone? And yes, I should've known better than to use religion and forget the *sarcasm*. The point I was trying to make actually wasn't about the computers themselves; it was that I don't think you can predict, in 2011, how people will react to their perception of computers as they approach what Kurzweil calls the singularity. Couldn't it be a major issue even with religion gone?
Bill Maher is awesome, and Ray Kurzweil is awesome. We need to send religion packing out the door in this day and age, Maher helped with that. If there were a trend happening, that we could see, where we could predict what would happen in the future, that would be nice to see, and Kurzweil plotted that out. Many predictions he made decades ago happened. His percent rate is good. Whats crazy is criticizing with out looking into it thoroughly first. Thats like judging books before reading them.
