  • I guess this track is on a hill ?

43's running left to right are sounding lush with there turbos at full pressure

Right to left, no turbo sound that I could hear.

The old Paxman Valenta engine sounded the best, combination of a throbbing engine sound and turbo whistle was awesome to hear, it just sounded "POWER" !!!!

  • Southbound = silence

    Northbound = defening roar!

  • All great but the last one, EPIC!

  • I like the sound of valentas, the diesel groan then turbo sound over the top, cool.

  • The great loco's of all time are or have slowly being taken away from us Deltics,Class 47, etc etc The 125 are the last of the dying breed of Great British loco's which are looking to be taken from us so we have nothing to watch only crappy Voyagers and Turbostars..

  • @tnewton1988 Don't forget all the electric multiple units we have to put up with too - glorified trams.

  • last was the best shot

  • Im Gonna Miss Valenta's On The ECML :(

  • Marvellous. Sadly missed. I worked in Virgin Cross Country Control at this time, and although the HSTs were a bit troublesome at times, it was great to work with them both behind the scenes and on board. Definitely the best years of my career so far.

  • does anyone know when virgin removed the class 43 from it's fleet?

  • Do Cross Country still have Class 43's (125s) using the Lickey on a Daily Basis

  • Just checked mty books and found that I was driving the last set 006&079 with the fans screaming.

  • @darhar Seriously?

  • @wellowvids Yes I was a driver at Bristol on VXC 1998-2005 and know at serco driving test trains

  • @wellowvids I wish they could bring Virgin XC back and their HST'S

  • @wellowvids Yes it was me

  • @darhar small world

  • @smiffy1071 North ;)

  • what can i say bloody superb shots

  • Thanks for that!

  • how much boost do the turbos produce ? They sound like jet engines !

  • cracking stuff!

  • 43123 is still a val and still in service. thanks grand central! 5*

  • I was probably on one of those HST's heading Northbound while on holiday to Birmingham around about this time. Such a brilliant place to catch valenta's at full pelt! Amazing vid m8, priceless doesn't begin to describe this vid!

  • Thanks for your comments!

  • Nice vid, reminds me of the old Dragon HST service, shame you didn't get 102 :(

It shows how much the roar of the Valentas cut through though!

  • 43079 is now MTU Fitted and is in service with FGW miss virgin Valentas R.I.P

  • wow what a sound bring back the valenta

  • 43006 all the way

  • Nice clips

  • That sounds infinantly better than those MTU's and Voyagers of today.

  • Thanks!

  • Voyagers....PAH! HST's have always been better

  • nice work again... cheers ;-)

  • brilliant vid

  • great 5*

  • I wonder what MTU's will sound like on the Lickey now?

  • The same as the clip that 43180 and 43084 are in. But I think that they are Valentas that are not accelerating.

  • Nah mate, I saw them a couple of weeks ago. They have an awesome rumble that gets to the bottom of your spine, and even the brand new NXEC MTU's are whistling/screaming like they were starting to bed in.

  • Fantastic. Cant beet a Valenta!!!

  • Absolutly superb vid, great location to hear the Paxman sing !

  • what a fantastic vid matey!!!!! god i really miss them vals on xc lets hope axc dont mtu em all! 43085 is at brush ready to be killed :-(

  • Fantastic Vid, brings back some memories.... And to think a lot of those have been MTU'd now..... NO MORE FGW VALENTAS!!!!

  • Now thats what a HST was made for!! Bootiful!! GOD SAVE THE VALENTA

  • Cant beat a Valenta on the Lickey...or maybe under the roof at York :)

  • The HST at 00:52 sounds liek a fighter jet =P

  • wish i had moved house 2 near the XCountry line sooner. I live about 2 minutes from it and what do i get? Virgin bloody Voyagers =( check out my farewell virgin vid in prep 4 the return of the hst from cross country trains

  • Wow, it just shows how much I missed out on...

Some lovely noise there, I just wish I'd gotten in this stuff sooner.

And yes, Lickey is 1 in 37.5 for quite some way. I believe it's nearer 4 miles than 2, but I've not got an official source for that.

Good video there wellowvids, got any other Valenta videos?

  • I'm sure I have but I'll have to find them!!

  • Anyone know the gradient of the Lickey incline!

  • 1 in 37 for 2 miles apparently!

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS!

  • Yes!!! try googling Lickey Incline.

  • Truly amazing I have seen most of these power cars before but never on somewhere as good as the lickey incline

  • i agree matt but that was a lovley sound and i always wanted a vid of virgin HSTs

  • FUCKINGHELL BEASTS
