This video is good except the part where they crush the classic Mercedes. Beautiful car. But, there's still more in the world, but that's one less........
@TheLackofattack And just take a look at Rally Group B that was till 86s + Mercedes Benz 600 Pullmann. Its just little pice. Why i am thinking that old cars are better :)
I'm with Marklin15. Save that poor car. Its' fixable. Nobody's getting my beloved 300 CD into a crusher if I can ever help it either. Doesn't matter how old it is it's a Mercedes. PS, I'd tan that kids' f--- hide for jumping on the hood like that.
Had a 92 190e. Mistake 1. I sold it. Mistake 2. I bought a 97 Golf Cabriolet. Lesson learned, the latter was a dutyful appliance. The Mercdes had something that the golf was just missing. So, after 6 joyless months, bring on the W140. Only someone who hasn't had a faithful Mercedes will rubbish them. The Peter engineered ones are nothing but the best!
Sad sad thing about this is, its not true. The time, then ne mercs are made of the crushed old ones, is long time over. New mercs are made of cheap international steel, the part of w115 in a new mercedes will luckily reach one or two Atoms :(
that W115 in the video should be compared to the E-class... but of course in those days it was more simple. You could buy the mercedes (W115) or the S-class (W108/116).
These days they have all the models of the alphabet... I can't keep up anymore. Would they just concentrate on one or 2 very good models....
You fuckin people crying over a commercial for overpriced new garbage. Depreciation- The loss of value over time, Of which Mercedes is one of the worst, primarily because the rich are usually so deluded they think 76000 is a good deal for a bucket of bolts and gizmos. 76k in the showroom,,5 minutes later at home, 69k is the best you'll get you fucking idiots.
Obviously you've never owned a Mercedes, most owners take great pride in them, and keep them for a long time. If you want to hate on the people who work hard and get good pay, then keep it in your head, because if you work hard you can get whatever you want.
Absolutely touching. Has me reminiscing over all the memories of my 1995 C280. Got her when I was 16, and I'll have her for ever. Put so much love and affection into her, I could never leave her. It would be like losing an old friend. Wish I could see her past like this video though, with that emblem always sparkling at the end of the hood :) it's no wonder you see those old folks still driving their first Mercedes. Inseparable love.
Watching this video only makes me love my silver 2007 C230 Sport all that much more. Looks similar to the new one coming off the line at the end. It's my 3rd one and can't imagine owning any other brand. Truly amazing cars! As Ferris would say, "If you ever have the means, I highly recommend picking one up."
I wish cars had a book within them, telling the story from where it came to be, to how it got to you. Then perhaps people would treat their cars better.
@SessionR Mercedes does have something almost like that, in the back of the manual there is a separate booklet with all the scheduled service intervals each with their own page and a blank area for a mechanic's stamp and etc. I agree, your idea does sound cool however.
@thenotoriousadin Give it a rest will you...it was almost 70 years ago. OF COURSE it has changed! Besides, so did Porsche, Daimler, Fiat, MAN and many others.
johnnyk, you are not alone. I've got a 1985 190E that I bought new - over 325,000 miles on it. It's no longer road-worthy, but I'm torn with what to do with it. The other day I went to move it (haven't started it in months) and with one touch of the starter it came to life. I feel like I'm betraying an old friend if I decide to part with it... LOTS of memories, and what a great car...
@sugarcube910 i was born in 85, and that is one of my favorite cars from all time, hope in 4 years be able to buy one and restore it, if ur gonna sell it, try selling it to someone that really know what hes buying...
This commercial is quite simply amazing in terms of how it makes you feel. I've been a Benz-addict since I'm 4, even thinking about driving anything else feels like herecy, cheating and criminal all in one. And dont worry Johnny, it makes me cry too ;)
this is a great commercial, i love the transitions through time and love the interior of that old beuty. i know i am going to be flamed for saying this but i am an audi driver. and am just trying to make some piece between the two fans audi and merc. today i walked past an old merc, rusty and faded but one thing cought my eye. the fantastic interior, does anyone here like anything about audi? if not, just take a few seconds to look at one and see of you can find somthing you like about it
@twomuchmonster jojojo, i sure do, i have an 2006 A4, great car, hope in 4 years be able to buy and old mercedes and restore it, its been a dream o mine to own an 190E since i was just a kid and had it on remote control ahaha
@twomuchmonster Audi is fantastic. I dont think you can go wrong with one of those. This is coming from a Mercedes fanboy btw. Mercedes-Benz/Audi/BMW - all awesome brands that are nothing short of legendary.
I would be running and pulling that W115 out of the crusher before it becomes a little cube!!!!! It looks like its got a good body. Why are they crushing the good ones and most of the ones that are still around are rusty and need body work but they still run like a top. True Mercedes reliability
yeah this car appears rust free! and it had a good body before mercedes dented it up for the commercial. Poor old girl, she sacrificed her life so her founders could sell some plastic.
I'm a true mercedes lover and firmly beleive they are very good car.
I have own :
1969 250 4 speed manual on floor ( w115 )
1959 219 4 speed on column
1983 300D
1985 300D ( still own it ) 1970 Unimog 416 with snow blower. They are very well built vehicles and the w123 where built like thanks ! It is true that if they are well maintain, they can last many generations !
My grandma used to have one just like this, passed to my mother, my eldest brother has it now, every bit as good to drive as my 94 W124 300d. I'm now on my 4th, had 2 W123's and on my second W124, i would agree that the newer Benz are nowhere near as good as the older ones, but are still an iconic brand.
"the outside may change but the soul remails the same" Yeah friggen right that old w115 could still be on the road! I would hate to think that W123 would become some lower quality newer merc.
Also a "Mid-Klasse" became a C-class not sure how that works.
No my friend, i m not narrow minded, i m just a thinker and a realist.. Maybe you should check the video with the title "Mercedes benz plant production" to see the "difference" by yourself! Cheers
@Hellhelium11231995 those I wouldn't drive the 10000 miles journey from Riyadh to Amman every summer for 7 successive years... and still know that any one of them can do it next year ;)
Recently i had a crash with my A-class. A very bad crash, but if it wasn't for Mercedes-benz i don't know if i could write this lines now. I miss my A150 so much... i hope soon will be ready again. Thank you Mercedes for the emotional connection between your cars, and their drivers...
Sorry to hear about your crash. But I cant see how anyone could have a connection with an 'A class'.....they are not a proper Mercedes in any way what so ever - they are mass produced cheap plasticy hatchbacks just like a Peugeot 307 or Vauxhall Astra, they dont resemble a Mercedes at all and they cannot compare with other cars in their range, let alone the good old true mercedes like in this video.
Look, i have both A-Class and C-Class with the AMG packet and i assure you that Every car that has "the Star" in its' mask is A Mercedes. I guess you are right about the mass production hatchback but you are absolutely wrong about the quality of plastics! I think it's unfair to criticize a car that is piece by piece assembled in Germany. In fact, if i compare the quality of my A-class, with my dads C-class i can tell you one thing, the components and parts are in their majority the same!
tritraining... that's something definitely worth writing about. I write for a site called The Truth About Cars and I know a lot of our readers would be highly interested in your experience.
This commercial features my '72 220D, Ophelia...well not actually, but in all appearances. I bought her in 1981, the day Reagan was shot. She carried my wife and I to and from our wedding, brought our daughter home from the hospital, took her to daycare, then elementary school, middle school, and high school. My daughter now has Ophelia at FSU. One of these days it will actually be Ophelia, in the video. I don't know how I will manage without her.
Mercedes is doing better now after they got rid of chrysler. Many new cars came out, and they're great, the Daimler-Chrysler ones just aren't German-made enough, that's why Benz was doing badly back then.
The yellow color is called Maria Theresa yellow. It was considered a color of prestige when it was put on the Mercedes. At one point, her offspring controlled most of the civilized world. Look it up.
I do too to an extent. Because you know some of those unionized electricians that work for GM would come in on weekedays and drag ass untill the weekend, then come in and make double time. Smart...But also dumb.
I believe every Mercedes Benz has a soul but it isnt born by human hands in some factory in Stuttgart Germany. No, Mercedes just continues as they always have to build beautifully engineered vessels of the finest materials in which a owner then imbues her with a soul. Other car companies rarely fashion vehicles worthy of a drivers heart. We call them classics. Only Mercedes builds a classic in every car without fail. So it is when a driver looses their heart to a car that a car begets a soul.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Soul? Yeah right...Muscle cars have "soul"...Mercedes have nothing to do with that kinda stuff.
Mercedes is all about ice cold engineering, mean machinery that will do anything you tell it to do, as if its a pre-programmed robot. It's about going over a bump as if it doesn't exist. It's about V8s that don't make any noise. And Speedometers that give you a better definition of "constant acceleration" than you'd find in wikipedia.
Typical stereotyping dumbass. Do you really think a 300 million people nation would get anywhere if they were stupid? We're a first world country to say the least. Nevermind the whole "super power" and "modern imperialism" shit (which I don't believe in myself).
And please, tell me which part of it was wrong. I've driven a few Mercedes', in fact, I'm looking to buy one myself. And that's what I felt Mercedes is all about. I meant every word of that comment; whether you guys like it or not.
I said "never mind the "whole super" bla bla bla". That's not our fault, we (the the American people) always oppose wars. The government is fucked up.
Crappy cars have souls. Like Italian cars. They're quick, but they're crappy. Muscle cars have souls. They almost sound like a live creature when they roar. AND they're crappy.
Why else would the world be on a crisis because of America? Except for the sanctions I think America is a good market that feeds a whole buncha countries that export here.
I didn't say a word about supercars. I mean cars like Fiat or Alpha Romeo. They're quick, and pretty, and full of "soul" and "passion", but fall short against their competition when it comes to reliability and built quality.
Then tell me how could Mercedes buy 100% of Chrysler,Jaguar...? Because they had 70 billion €, which they made with doing the best cars in the world. And then it happened. The DaimlerChrysler director ordered Mercedes' engineers to make less good cars for more money. That is what you see today. Chrysler's engineers screwed up the best brand in the world. But now, when Shrempp is gone, the quality is back, and i hope the Chrysler will be kicked out as soon as possible. And Mercedes has soul.
Then you don't recognize it. It is not something extraordinary, but when you drive it or sit in it, you feel safe, the interior is made right in the perfect colors, and you know, that people were making it, every single of them put a little piece of themselves in the car, not like the damn robots today. Every single one of them is different
I agree with the safety part, and the interior is definitely of superior quality.
But I disagree with the part that "everyone put a little piece of themselves in the car". Except for AMG, MB doesn't handbuild cars. They keep things consistent and precise. Otherwise MBs wouldn't last 200K miles.
Maybe you could say that about Chevy or Ford. You can see the parts being (often badly) hand fitted. Right away you know, someone was really tired when making this. :P
i honestly beleive that aswell... I would never own a new one but the older ones were unbeatable. it was the superior vehicle... but that has faded... but at the same time you have to give credit to its fall to the Japanese Luxury industry. Which has proven to be a fierce competitor. but the old school still looks down on the Japanese luxury only becuase it doesnt have the "history". Although Lexus came out of the gates wooping ass left and right in 1989 and the 86 Acura Legend didnt do to bad.
1. I think that MB lost a lot of its reputation in the middle of the 90s which was a result of the way of thinking of the auto industry during that time. The common opinion was that only size matters and the auto makers put massive cost pressure on their suppliers which was one reason that for example the last C-Class had so many electronic bugs. Plus the Chrysler affair revoke massive resources from MB. But nowadays they made the turnaround, the new C E and S-Class are brilliant cars
2. Today MB and also Audi and BMW are back on track both in financial and technical terms. The ADAC Emergency Road Service Statistic (German Automobile club - one of the most popular and most respected institutions we have here) shows that the German premium car makers are the spearhead of reliability and they are also well prepared for the futures challenges
Its the perception of the brand aswell. MB does not have the same luster it use to. Because they allowed themselves to become a "common company" in america anyway. By being a whore for chrysler. I remember in the early 90's when u saw someone driving a Mercedes they were --the shit-- no questions asked. but now how many hood rats and white trash bitches do u see sportin around those damned C230's and C300s. I would never own a new one... a pre DaimlerChrysler Mercedes maybe...
i feel much more terrified seeing the same on the wheel of S 550 or 600 if it's a really bad day you gotta see some stupid rich slut devastating rims on some CL 500 'cuz she can't park it sideways
I know the feeling, I drive a pre-merger '92 190E 2.6 and see too many thugged out newer Benzes with too much chrome, extra emblems, windows tinted solid black and other fugly mods. The best looking Mercedes is a stock clean Mercedes, leave the mods and styling upgrades to AMG, ya know?
I love this commercial I recently sent my beloved 1975 300d to the crusher after 360,000 mi. and 12 years of daily driving this video captures the moment prefectly . BEST car I have ever owned!!!!!!!!!
LOL the soul do evolve too !

I would be running and pulling that W115 out of the crusher before it becomes a little cube!!!!! It looks like its got a good body. Why are they crushing the good ones and most of the ones that are still around are rusty and need body work but they still run like a top. True Mercedes reliability
Marklin15 2 years ago 37
yeah this car appears rust free! and it had a good body before mercedes dented it up for the commercial. Poor old girl, she sacrificed her life so her founders could sell some plastic.

Look at the brake rotors... you can tell the car hadn't sat long before the wheels were pulled off.

I'm now on my 4th, had 2 W123's and on my second W124, i would agree that the newer Benz are nowhere near as good as the older ones, but are still an iconic brand.
brizo75 2 years ago
"the outside may change but the soul remails the same" Yeah friggen right that old w115 could still be on the road! I would hate to think that W123 would become some lower quality newer merc.
Also a "Mid-Klasse" became a C-class not sure how that works.

Recently i had a crash with my A-class. A very bad crash, but if it wasn't for Mercedes-benz i don't know if i could write this lines now. I miss my A150 so much... i hope soon will be ready again. Thank you Mercedes for the emotional connection between your cars, and their drivers...
TReX1707 2 years ago 3
Sorry to hear about your crash. But I cant see how anyone could have a connection with an 'A class'.....they are not a proper Mercedes in any way what so ever - they are mass produced cheap plasticy hatchbacks just like a Peugeot 307 or Vauxhall Astra, they dont resemble a Mercedes at all and they cannot compare with other cars in their range, let alone the good old true mercedes like in this video.
ash7990 2 years ago
Look, i have both A-Class and C-Class with the AMG packet and i assure you that Every car that has "the Star" in its' mask is A Mercedes. I guess you are right about the mass production hatchback but you are absolutely wrong about the quality of plastics! I think it's unfair to criticize a car that is piece by piece assembled in Germany. In fact, if i compare the quality of my A-class, with my dads C-class i can tell you one thing, the components and parts are in their majority the same!
TReX1707 2 years ago
Even if it's a bus or a "mass production hatchaback" as you call it, it;s always a merc

Look it up.

Soul? Gimme us a fucking break, Mercedes.

typical stupid american
thedeathrow1 2 years ago 2
Typical stereotyping dumbass. Do you really think a 300 million people nation would get anywhere if they were stupid? We're a first world country to say the least. Nevermind the whole "super power" and "modern imperialism" shit (which I don't believe in myself).
And please, tell me which part of it was wrong. I've driven a few Mercedes', in fact, I'm looking to buy one myself. And that's what I felt Mercedes is all about. I meant every word of that comment; whether you guys like it or not.
wildbloodydragon 2 years ago
Well u for sure got somewhere. The whole world is now in fuckin crisis because of u, thanks for that.
Mercedes have more soul and charm than any american crap muscle car.
thedeathrow1 2 years ago 3
I said "never mind the "whole super" bla bla bla". That's not our fault, we (the the American people) always oppose wars. The government is fucked up.
Crappy cars have souls. Like Italian cars. They're quick, but they're crappy. Muscle cars have souls. They almost sound like a live creature when they roar. AND they're crappy.
Benz is not a crappy car.
wildbloodydragon 2 years ago
I didn't say a word about war. The whole your country style is parasitizing on other world.
I see u don't know a shit about cars man. Calling italian supercars crap u just give a perfect example of americans stupidity
thedeathrow1 2 years ago 2
Why else would the world be on a crisis because of America? Except for the sanctions I think America is a good market that feeds a whole buncha countries that export here.
I didn't say a word about supercars. I mean cars like Fiat or Alpha Romeo. They're quick, and pretty, and full of "soul" and "passion", but fall short against their competition when it comes to reliability and built quality.
wildbloodydragon 2 years ago
FIAT? That is shiiiiiit
OldtimerMercedesBenz 2 years ago 5
Then tell me how could Mercedes buy 100% of Chrysler,Jaguar...? Because they had 70 billion €, which they made with doing the best cars in the world. And then it happened. The DaimlerChrysler director ordered Mercedes' engineers to make less good cars for more money. That is what you see today. Chrysler's engineers screwed up the best brand in the world. But now, when Shrempp is gone, the quality is back, and i hope the Chrysler will be kicked out as soon as possible. And Mercedes has soul.
OldtimerMercedesBenz 2 years ago
It does not.
Or maybe it has a soul that I can't recognize. But as far I can see, Mercedes is all about precise engineering.
wildbloodydragon 2 years ago
Then you don't recognize it. It is not something extraordinary, but when you drive it or sit in it, you feel safe, the interior is made right in the perfect colors, and you know, that people were making it, every single of them put a little piece of themselves in the car, not like the damn robots today. Every single one of them is different
OldtimerMercedesBenz 2 years ago
I agree with the safety part, and the interior is definitely of superior quality.
But I disagree with the part that "everyone put a little piece of themselves in the car". Except for AMG, MB doesn't handbuild cars. They keep things consistent and precise. Otherwise MBs wouldn't last 200K miles.
Maybe you could say that about Chevy or Ford. You can see the parts being (often badly) hand fitted. Right away you know, someone was really tired when making this. :P
wildbloodydragon 2 years ago
i honestly beleive that aswell... Although Lexus came out of the gates wooping ass left and right in 1989 and the 86 Acura Legend didnt do to bad.
lvatlenox 2 years ago
Tobias83ausmdorf 2 years ago
don't forget GLK
sersarsor 2 years ago
Tobias83ausmdorf 2 years ago
Its the perception of the brand aswell. MB does not have the same luster it use to. Because they allowed themselves to become a "common company" in america anyway. By being a whore for chrysler. I remember in the early 90's when u saw someone driving a Mercedes they were --the shit-- no questions asked. but now how many hood rats and white trash bitches do u see sportin around those damned C230's and C300s. I would never own a new one... a pre DaimlerChrysler Mercedes maybe...

Dude we ARE in the pre DaimlerChrysler era. We're almost in the pre Chrysler era lol
