there's a lot of rumour in the dutch jawa world. these engines were supposed to be produced badly, although alu-cylinder housing, the connection with the iron barrel could be bad, hence quick overheating. The dutch importer says these engines are very sensitive for overheating and must be driven carefully.
strange, also the iron-barrel 634 has ngk b7hs, a hotter plug prescribed then the alu 638. this suggestst the latter gets hotter..
I love the sound of the Jawa engine. My Dad had three and two CZ's before that, commuting from Kent to London on them daily - so they did a fair bit of mileage. The sound was so distinctive you could hear he was on his way from a good mile away on quiet days. Brings back happy memories. He did have the odd problem with electrics but they were always pretty indestructible.
@enfielddnepr don't be afraid, 100km/h is the cruise speed for jawa, i usually drive 110 km/h, it gets a little freaky on 130km/h which is almost max speed
I have seen one and had a go on one very nice .quiet and no smoke quite a few have been sold I have spoken to the guy that imports them he has been at a few rallies that i have been at this year he is very happy he has sold 14 I think and has had no problems with them
Hi Billy The best thing you can do is leave it well alone and enjoy it for what it is. I know of people who say they can get 90 out of them but stick to 76 mph and let the old lady give you pleanty of pleasure!!!
HowDo ! Just got my 634 the other day and am delighted with it ! Same colour/year as yours ! At the moment im very happy with the performence, But hypothetically speaking what are the possiblities for tuning these fine machines..! I suppose expansion chambers/porting increasing compression ratio and maybe bigger carb ! But i dont want to make it unreliable or loose the torquey engine charictoristics ! Any thoughts Bro` ! Thanks. Billy
Hi I saw this vid before, very nice bikes, congratulations. Do you ride them every day, or just as a weekend bike? I think you might need to set the ignition (if still ponts)on the grey bike, it sounded a bit hesitant to rev up. Lucky you have the space to store 2 bikes, my dad has 2 250/559 Jawas, lucky again.
Nice bikes mate. The older Jawas is better. Newer engines (TS350) has several problems with gearbox. Older is better. :-)) nice to see Jawa`s in UK. Cheers.
Hi, the 634 has the same gerabox, as 638, and the 638 is better because instead of brass bearings in the g`box the 638 uses needle bearings, so that is a little bit better. Also newer Jawa`s cylinder is alloy with iron liner, hence better performance and better cooling, compared to iron barel of 634. Nontheless I agree, nice bikes, love them!!
I bought a brand new JAWA 350 back in 1976. It was a bloody good little bike; I even used it for dispatch riding. As for a top speed of 180 km/h well, it might obtain that at terminal velocity if you throw it out the back of a Hercules without a parachute. However, I recall a peak speed on the road of about 84 / 85 MPH say 130 km/h.
excellent carburetor regulation on that 350 TS, but it needs a lower RPMs on Jawa 364, but nice bikes, ill put a video of my Jawa 634, but already with silencers and panel like 638 TS
Just beautiful! Nothing beat Jawa 350 sound! That TS engine sounds very healty. 350 sounds nice but I prefer that Six Days 250 sound is best of all motorbike sounds! :P Hey take a look my finnish Jawa-clup meeting videos!
Max speed 130 km/h aprox. 80 m.p.h. but at this speed it could come to thermical problems especially with the 634 engines, so you shouldn't drive faster (for longer time) than about 110 km/h (65 m.p.h) That's not much but hey, just chill
Haha you've got to show me that. You wouldn't hit the 180 km/h mark even if you'd going downhill, the original transmission is much to short for those speeds. With a longer transmission you may be able to ride 150 km/h but thats it, and what do you expect of 27 hp?
Its not the 27hp, its just 4 speed transmission, these motorcycles were best in the USSR, but the bad roads in Russia never let them build a 5-speed transmission. The thinking was like - Russian people dont need a faster motorcycle and they wouldn't know how to use electrostarter or oilmaster. So even in the 90s motorcycles were like 30 years ago.
Beautiful man, just beautiful! But it's still interesting that every 350 sounds different. I've also got 2 350's. I wish you much fun with your wonderul bike's and an accident-free season 2008! Greetz from Vienna!

since you have both types..is it true that the 634 engines run smoother and vibrate less then the 638 engines?

to much oil mixed with the gas in the white bike. You see all the smoke plus it does not rev that fast as a result of the extra oil.
