holy shit... How much electricity does it consume ? I only have a small desktop pc turned into linux box server. Using it for NAS, apache, linux stuff.
lol i try to keep everything on 1 pc, i have 6 pcs, they are hooked up to my wireless router via ethernet and all my computers back up and stream wirelessly, we use wilife software to handle surveillance, i am thinking about getting ghost. we are getting a streaming doodle for out tv so we can watch our footage from it, i have mapped network drives (on everyones pc) which are well partitioned with just enough space, leaving room for backups and media. we have like the best setup for what we do!
Consolidate...? I can't help but think that the racks storing your ghost images and files could be moved to one large disk array and save you a lot of resources and power.
@jsb6jsb12 Yes. That is what I have done. I think its clever because you are using the computers you already have instead of spending $2000+ for equipment.
@Mrthemaxdj1 no i didnt mean it like that. i just was like curious if you had a career in web hosting or something. i didnt mean to make it sound like i was mocking you or anything. and i have a question, wouldn't your isp block your connection? would you have to get a permit to have that much bandwidth?
@DonatedBus I do my own web hosting but not as a career. My service provider will sell any bandwith that you want to purschase, its a business package. This video is old and have changed lots of stuff. See my home server room updated again for latest video.
@Mrthemaxdj1 oh that is very impressive! i was looking into webhosting to earn some money on the side and i was always curious if it was even allowed! and i did not intend to offended you with my first comment, if it did. very VERY nice set up. i am very jealous haha
Also, you might want to move that fire extinguisher. I'm pretty sure if a fire started in there, it would be hard to get to the BACK of that little enclosed server closet.
@Mrthemaxdj1 Yeah, but your rack enclosures in the back make the room and your walkway a lot smaller. Unless that is just an optical illusion from the camera (seen something similar in a Los Angeles server room).
Also, good job on not being another idiot with 1 fire extinguisher (or none) in the house. You honestly have no idea how many times I've seen people not even have a fire extinguisher on hand in or near their property.
@technogeek678 Not sure which piece you are talking about but have bought from everywhere over the last 15 -20 years. Mostly Hp. This video is old, might want to check out MY Home Server Room Updated Again video for newest video.
@technogeek678 Servers cost 2-6000 dollars a piece depending on what you buy. The racks are usually 1500 a piece plus expensive shipping charges, i know because i have been paying for them for a long time and will be in the future for a long time. the price range you are looking at wont even buy a hard drive for a server. save up some more money and wait till you find a sale, thats what i do
@ComputerGuy129 What are you talking about., You have a wonderful setup and i left comments about it a month or so ago. Yours is very kool. This videi is old and My Home Server room Updated Again is the most recent video of my room now
@Mrthemaxdj1 No, what I stated was just installing all the stuff you needed on 1 computer. Visualization is when your computer operates like virtual computers on 1 computer box. My question is why spend all the money on a VMware program and just not install all your stuff on 1 computer? Why can't your web server and email server be on the same computer?
@Armornone People have been telling me to virtulize and i have been ignoring those comments. I have no reason to put any services together on one machine because i have plenty of machines so each one can handle the service thats needed. If i can afford to buy the machines i can afford the electricity. This video is old and my newest video is actually the one i monitor the coments on. MY HOME SERVER ROOM UPDATED AGAIN
Got a big power bill? Why would you have all of this equipment in your house? Are you also an IT Pro? I thought i was an IT freak but this beats it all.
If his equipment if HP, its worthless crap so don't get too excited. HP=crap.
If he has all this equipment but nothing to run on it, you just described 90% of all I.T departments. All they want is equipment because its just toys for them but they don't want to develop any applications. Waste of money.
the setup look out of this world. Is the power bill not extreamly high?
and i want to learn what kind of servers there are and what functions and stuff they have..u know just the basics. do u know any website/forum where i can learn all about it?
Right not im in school getting my associates in information tech. I still live with my parents (now before anyone says anything im 18), im going for my master in information tech. Anyways once i move out im hoping to have a set up similar to this. I already have a decent set up. A computer i made running 3 gforce 9800 gtx oced video cars connected to 2 25in monitors and 4 17in monitors. I have also have a rack with 3 20 amp power strips a cisco 3548 and a cisco 2611. 3x1u servers.
and 3 2u servers. The 1u servers are dual processor athlons, not dual core the have two physical processors and have 4 250gig sata harddrives each. You def have me beat though. Once i get some more change ima pick up a 2621 and a pix firewall. 5 stars for your set up. it is def wickid.
@immakinbacon Show off that rack and your servers so we can all see them. I'll have to have my friend that shot these videos show up close the 7 Ibm X series 1U servers in my rack on the next update if he does one.
I would assume, judging by your physical security, that you utilize a fair amount of cryptography on your systems? I was just wondering how one might manage all of those encryption keys.
Why do you have so many servers? I suggest you order some dual hexacore servers by one of the mayor company's and bring all this down to 1 single rack.
For the rest, nice setup dude but try to keep it green.
