  • To qualify for clunker program. The car got to be drivable..Then destroyed. the craziest thing I ever heard.

  • 0:11 so a 1990-1995 ford taurus sation wagon (25-30) mpg is a "clunker"?

  • i heard about this on globalworldtoday.webs.com

  • Everyone deserves to have an opinion. Economy stimulus worked for a while. There were benefits for the environment.

    677 081 cars traded.

Average mpg of the old vehicles traded in: 15.8.

Average mpg of the new vehicles: 24.9 (58% better)

85% of traded in vehicles SUV's and pickups

59% of the new vehicles were automobiles

It was a small/partial measure but effective.

  • The Cash for Clunkers program is the biggest piece of shit the U.S. ever made.

  • i like john charles

  • Why don't they take all the parts out before crashing the cars? Lights, interior etc. That would be proper recycling.

  • Trade in your gas guzzling clunker for a car that can't stop and a load of life threatening/ending recalls! Wise choice!

  • Fuck Cash for clunkers...IT's pointless..I am straight up american and I'll be FUCKING GOD DAMNED if I own anything other than American cars... FUCK these Environmentally safe shit boxes. Anyone that is for this fucking stupid program needs to be lined up and bull whipped

  • Anna, You're c-u-t-e !!

    :D

  • Dumb sheep will fall for anything. They would sell their soul if it sound like a good deal.

  • Sheep have two options, shorn or slaughtered, that's why they're sheep.

  • crew the bloody enviroment!! who gives a fuck about it?? and obama, you dumb ass son of a bitch can go to hell!! and all americans who approve of this can also go to hell!!

  • whatever they can say what they say? but is a best program. They always have 2 say something about is.

  • I hate cash for clunkers

  • why? what wrong w/ it? Is a best program ever.

  • aahh..buddy...wait for the bill, wait for the bill.....

  • Well, you see, that's good that you don't drive it that much anyway! That's one of the points I heard. A lot of people said that the cars they are destroying were not necessarily even being driven, so it didn't make a huge difference as far as gas consumption goes.

  • WOW Someone with some brains that sees this program is complete BS. Probably why he is not in Washington and out instead among you know... The people. The one's that this actually affects.

  • I am so glad to see the Cascade Policy Institute speaking out about this, especially about the environmental impact and also the impact on poorer people.

I might add that this doesn't get rid of the worst offending polluting vehicles on the road or the most inefficient.

  • What a load of crap.

This program is amazing. We are trading in a '86 benz 300E for a Toyota Yaris

  • Yeah, create jobs alright, short term, maybe. All the crushed cars get sent over there to be sent back as cheap commodities, I get so tired of hearing we can't compete. The company I work for has cheap Chinese crap backfiring soundly on them now, it always holds true, you get what you pay for. Seeing otherwise good cars and trucks being destroyed here as seen is such a waste, many families can only afford good used cars, and will not be lulled into deeper debt with these so called incentives.

  • i couldnt agree Spike more new cars are a drag all the emission crap some are cool camaro challenger ect. hybrids cost to much to maintain when something goes south old cars are fine as my parents said buy what you can afford so im happy with my 01 dodgeram1500v8 and plan to keep it for a long long time peace

  • The problem with all of this is politicians and other suits who do not know the first things about cars and trucks grandstanding and posturing, working upon the fears and sheep-like mentality of the general public. Too many go by the adage that if the politicians say it is so,then it must be so.I hope your Ram lasts a long time, and nobody will force you ever to give it to the wreckers. Who knows how these smooth talkers get into power.I'd like to see one politician who is really a car person.

  • I'm sure people just make the snap decision to go out and make a $10,000 - $45,000 purchase just because a politician tells them to. No one does their homework on a large purchase like that. Yep that makes total sense.

  • The whole thing reeks. Even totally good cars have to have the engines destroyed, in a very dangerous manner involving a chemical in the oil, and revving the engine to 2000 RPM. This whole thing will be short term, soon the wreckers wont be doing any business, this program will be over, there will be nobody to sell used parts for non-existent vehicles, it is a vicious circle, can't sell parts from the condemned vehicles, they are all gone, is anybody looking at long term?

  • Nope these are democrats.... Live in the now let the people worry about the ramifications in the future and let the republicans clean up the mess in 2012.

  • The whole idea is insane, bribing people into spending something that as you say, heck, we will worry about how to pay for it tomorrow. This is the big worry, there will be such a glut of repo'd cars out there, values will go over like a lead balloon, and the insult is that the majority of these sales went to the imports, where the majority of money from the sales ends up in Tokyo or Seoul. Can't people see beyond their own front yards?
