waw. videos like this show how retarded news programs have turned. when we see 2 minutes of one fucking cow getting its picture taken. but nothing about the insanitary disgusting conditions the other millions of cows that WE end up eating are in. than we know that the information being fed to us is complitly perverted and corrupted. shame on u "GOOD"
Just what I thought! To be truthful: I didn't read the issue. Probably they HAVE written about animal rights and all the things going wrong with the food (especially meat) industry. But showing the world only pictures like this will make people think: oh, all the cows are so happy and clean and everythings fine. I can eat them 24/7! I agree with you on this: Shame on you, GOODmagazine.
I don't eat beef or dairy, It's evil. Don't believe me? Watch a vid on animal slaughter. I watched an old dairy cow being tortured by those fucks at the slaughter house. A life of milk production, and this is what these creatures get. Let them revert in the wild to something not unlike the auroks.
no I realized it pretty quick, you tard , I actually respect the work they do and take my time to watch it full length so I won't miss any part of it, but in this case the video was a complete piece of sh*t so that's why I posted that comment.
And you saying I'm retarded is just so funny and pathetic. Don't you have anything better to do than to hate people on the internet like a big bad boy? I'm pretty sure that you don't have the balls to say that RL in my face, tough guy...
I think this is an irony about how stupid people are, when they believe animals are happy to be treated as we treat them. They're being brutally killed without basic procedures which could save them suffer. They're being kept in terrible conditions... I mean I do eat meat, but you can always make your meal in better way...
I must say Good magazine has some nice videos that might actually help change peoples mind. By this I mean important things like US Oil dependencies and political view points that make sense of the media's BS.
But when you make a left turn and broaden your attacks like you've done here. It kills your creditability for a wider range of people you may have actually got to otherwise. On important things!!
When your trying to win peoples minds the line is fine. One thing at time!
Animals eat other animals so why is it wrong for us to eat animals? I do think, though, that we should only kill what we need and use as many parts of the animal as possible.
Humans never realize that the are truly the worst animals. We would never think twice of killing an animal for its meat or kill an insect because there "yucky". we don't realize those animals enjoy life as much as any human can. We refuse to see this because we can't physically be told that they injoy life. I know eating meat is the circle of life, but thank the animal for the gift it has given you, and for a change, scoop an insect up and put him/her outside.
Its good to eat meat its the way these cows are feed and kept has to be changed but that's up to politicians so get active and vote smart and don't listen to these hippie-communist weirdos who think only about themselves. You have to eat meat and vegetables and fruits!
What does communisim have to do with respecting life? We've given cows, chickens and pigs a hard time for many years, I think its time to give them a break and let them live a full life.
There are alot of good points brought up on this page but i belive its more a thing of wants and choices for people, its the same argument as having a car that can go double the speed limit, y? because thats what people are used to. they make the choice to purchase that vehicle, and they will make the choice to enjoy their meat.
Whenever I see people rescuing abused and ill-fated animals, or people volunteering at an animal sanctuary, it gives me great hope that humankind can become a compassionate species. We just have to strive for it.
With the exception of Eskimos and indigenous tribes, we are no longer hunter-and-gatherers, and can grow nutritionally diverse crops for consumption. I think it would reflect well on our humanity if we paid back the other animals for helping the survival and advancement of our species by letting them live and no longer inflicting suffering upon them.
Plant foods require less resources and energy to produce, and when done right, a plant-based diet can be one of the most healthy diets. No, let us not forget that nonhuman animals have helped us in our evolution. They clothed and fed us, gave us shelter, helped us during transportation, and pulled our plows. However, I think it is reasonable to say that in today's world of digital cameras, iPods, and plasma screen TVs, that we no longer depend on them for the survival of our species.
Now, with that being said, I am in no way saying that hunting wild animals for food should be an alternative. For one thing, it would be unrealistic to believe that it would be a sustainable way to live, considering the population of people and the current high demand for meat (again, more than 10 billion farmed animals are slaughtered a year). Rather - and I know many people will cringe at this - people should switch to a plant-based diet.
They are not "just food", and they have a chance to be something other than that. A deer or a rabbit can escape predation, and their fate is somewhat in their control. An animal in a farm has virtually no hope of escaping death, and their lives are controlled the moment they are born. Animals in the wild are free, and get to experience life without ID tags, bodily mutilations, controlled feeding, breeding, contact with offspring, exercise, or a slated lifespan.
crock703: Mainly, I have a problem with animal agriculture because it involves the taking of sentient lives (more than 10 billion a year in the US). I do think it is perverse to breed and raise animals with plans on killing and eating them, whereas animals in the wild, while they play a certain role in the ecosystem, some being the hunter, others the hunted, at least they do not exist merely because of a label or for a label.
I always find it heartbreaking when I see number tags on these creatures, who are viewed as nothing more than a product you would see with a price tag at a store. I recommend you watch "The Emotional World of Farm Animals" which can be bought at Animal Place's website. It challenges the common belief that farmed animals are just "food" or "clothing" by showing the behavior of animals who live at a sanctuary.
VicLabs, I often hear this, and I do not even know why it is asked. Obviously, it would be better for farmed animals to not exist. They are unnatural, and most breeds of farmed animals today cannot survive in the wild, or even mate for all that matter and reproduce by artificial insemination. Also, you are missing the point. The animals are brought into this world just to be killed. Before they are even born their fate is planned and they are given a label.
Do you have beef w/ animal farming b/c mammal life is destroyed, or that they're kind of just dependent 'unnatural' freaks? In uncontrolled nature everything is destined to be consumed, usually killed.
It is kind of a twisted relationship, and who knows how it has shaped the evolution of our cultures/collective psyches (sp?)..
I'm curious to hear what you think about it more I guess
Just search "Herbie the Calf Escapes Slaughter" or "Maxine's Dash to Freedom" on here and you'll learn that every hamburger or steak began with a sentient being begging for their life. That is why there isn't and will never be a "Happy Meal".
Even if they do not know they are going to be stabbed in the back, it does not make it okay. They eventually will catch on, that they are going to be killed when they end up at the slaughterhouse and hear other cattle screaming in terror and can smell the death. It is not uncommon for farmed animals to be aware of their fate and escape.
I saw a cover of one of these magazines with a picture of a cow being massaged, brushed, and fed, with a subtitle saying "Why pampered cows make tastier steaks." Though the animals are not being abused, the whole idea is twisted and sick just the same. Gaining an animal's trust and pampering them just so that they are "tastier"? They are not objects. They are living, thinking, feeling beings.
If we didn't eat cows they wouldn't exist. That doesn't just mean "if we were to stop eating meat today they would die in the wild" (which is true). It means, we've bred cows for centuries to be cows; they were bred from the much larger, now extinct, wild animal, the Auroch. So is it better for the cow to live and die or to never have existed at all?
That argument is half-true. But you forget that now there are few predators capable of killing cows in North America or Europe. Rebreeding has brought back many of the auroch's traits in the form of Heck cattle, several hundred of which roam free in Northern Germany, without human interference. The niche which the auroch once filled has not disappeared, and can be refilled.

Maybe I'm just morbid, but It's like seeing your lobster wriggling around before it is taken out, boiled alive, and brought out on a plate. It only serves to make the meal more delicious.
