  • This is simply divine... despite the coughing people, which is actually normal. I guess nobody does it on purpose. But once while I've been to the opera, a woman who sat in front of me opened a candy with a terrible crackling noise, and because she thought it might be less noisy, she did it very slowly... but in fact it didn't change anything, it was still much too loud and we got aware of the amazing acoustics in Bastille Opera Paris. ;)

  • All that coughing must have pissed off Rubenstein!

  • GRANDIOSE

  • not retarded. can t help coughin' :-) (I never cough, I hardly even move)

  • it is no 3 isn't it ?

  • @jokkenor93 Nope it's no 2.

  • @VioletKIng69 Where I come from this is Op. 34 no. 2, which comes after Op. 18 and Op. 34 no. 1, which would make it the third waltz right?

  • Smokers..

  • Smokers..

  • is it weird for me to be wanting to learn particle physics & astronomy while i already am learning 3-d animation & modeling & programming? & im only 17... i guess im a nerd but ive always been interested in coming up with ideas for making renewable energy (i already have had a few good clean energy ideas but i wouldnt know who to talk to) ive also had some good ideas on how to improve space travel... *sigh* these jumbly thoughts in my head arent being put to good use...

  • @deathgift07 that's random, lol

  • @deathgift0 I am trying to think of something more irrelevant and I am having a difficult time ..By the way if you were truely and deeply engaged on this areas you would not feel the need to brag about them on youtube, Chopin did not walk in the streets shouting, I am the best musician, Einstein did not record himself saying I am the ruler of physics and publish the recording and Chuck Norris does not enter churches shouting I am the creator of the universe.

  • @deathgift07 You can actually prove me wrong by analysing your idea on space travel or renewable energy, as I am actually a student of physics and can actually try to follow your thought. If I find it helpful I am seriously even willing to raise funds to actualise the idea. (It may be your lucky day)

  • Coughers should be lined up against a wall and shot.

Or maybe he is a respected person attending the event who is very ill, and maybe his presence was respected anyway?

  • Coughers should be lined up against a wall and shot.

  • Sounds as if half the audience is about to keel over from respiratory failure.

  • porco dio piantatela di tossire, figli di puttana!

  • es pura emoción

  • Comment removed

  • what I think though, if you are in a concert paying attention to the coughs, maybe you the one who should relax and enjoy the music..ignore the rest.

  • That cougher really is a cockhead. He should have been ejected immediately after the second cough.. One cough leniency because maybe it was uncontrollable. But he coughed the whole way through. If I was sitting next to him I would have thought "fuck you".

  • Who cares about the Cougher? Stop making a Big F***ING deal out of it...

  • it could just be that the person is a true music afficianado and would rather go see this piano master while sick than miss their opportunity. honestly people, be realistic.

  • A cough? Get out of this place! How can you have a cough in a concert?

  • Damn coughers. Use your f-ing sleeve.

  • Guiomar Novaes, Op. 34, No. 2, early 1950s:

    watch?v=9K2An8bOVYY

    thanks and regards

  • I like the way he let go music to fly and then calm her down gently... o my....

  • Unless that guy had pneumonia or severe asthma, NO HUMAN BEING coughs for more than 4 seconds!

    Good god...

  • Walts no.3.

  • @Cthulhussama who cares...listen to it...

  • why must people cough all of the sudden every time, when it's quiet and someone is playing classical music ?

  • @guitar6029 ye let them cough through a beiber or lady gaga song....not chopin

  • Thie makes me mad, not the song, though Music of this sort does invoce feelings, BUT, this music, great music, is unappreciated in today's eye, I mean, Justin fucking Bieber's videos have what 33 Million? Come on people THINK

  • what is invisible, fly and smells like a rabbit? a rabbits fart

  • This is not No.2 in A Minor. This is Waltz N.3.

  • This is not No.2 in A Minor.

  • Rubinstein was the best but he was better with his Latin trio. And let's not forget how quick he was around the old accordion. Genius.

  • What a pity there are only silly comments, here. Rubinstein was a wonderful interpreter of Chopin's music. I was lucky enough to see him perform it.

  • @all1rog damn im jealous

  • This may be a stupid question but I really don't know the answer-- Was this written for piano? I've heard this done with strings, too-- it was beautiful!

  • @Queen0fr0ck Undoubtedly originally written for piano. Nevertheless there are many adaptations for other instruments.

  • Chopin only wrote for solo piano

  • @coffeeforcake Not quite true, as he also wrote for piano and orchestra, his piano concerti and various other pieces for that combination being rather well known. But his solo piano pieces, like this one, were often orchestrated by others...

  • @philipvanlidth ah yes, of course, i forgot about those. :)

  • @coffeeforcake

yeah.... polonaise is made for 50 pianos ¬¬

  • I think chopin's ghost(coughing) was in that concert!!!He is listening happily because his music is being played perfectly. : )

  • Bài này hay, ko biết bao giờ mới được học đây :X

  • i played this song when I was 14 let this comment remain here until I die :)

  • Why talking about coughs in concert?? listen de genius Chopin performed by another genius Arthur Rubinstein.

  • cough cough, haaaaaaaaak tooie. uhhhhraa ha haaaa haaaak cough cough ohh hwat aaaa choooo

  • Everybody seems to forget that Chopin was hit by pulmonary tuberculosis and died from this disease. The problem is that the audience should cough only when there are traces of blood on the original score.

  • Someone couldn't control their coffing, and subsequently, thousands of people are aware of their humiliation.

  • I always take a box of cough drops just in case there's the chance of a cough breakthrough. It's just so embarrassing!! I do love Chopin, and this lovely interpretation. Great and lightly done.

  • is he dying in there...somebody help him!!! jaja....i think his lunghs are are over here

  • yeah...who is that person that allways coughs in concerts???? if she/he dosnt want the tickes all have them"""=)

  • there's always a retarded person that coughs in a concert

  • What if they're just stupid and not full-blown retarted?

  • well then they'd be a stupid retard now wouldn't they......

  • @pianoland I was taken to see Rubinstein when I was 6. I wanted to cough so so bad but I held it back. It is completely unacceptable to cough while the music is played. I'm glad I didn't cough at Rubinstein...

  • He's my favorite classical musician, i love his songs, they are so moving...

I always feel devastated when i hear his songs, they are so beautiful...

  • splendid!

  • I love Frederic Chopin

Special feel Makes Me Cry But Not Is Sad Is Special...

  • Brilliant, simply brilliant.

  • Everyone who coughed during the performance deserves to be shot.

  • exactly

the guy at 1:56 deserves his fucking balls ripped off

  • /watch?v=zuvuHUQk4ms&translated=1

Go to 1:00 in that video.

  • when this was recorded it was fashionable to smoke-hence the coughing-socially acceptable back in those days-the rich smoked and coughed when they wanted and how and where they wanted katalavenis yifto

  • swstos :-)

  • resa affascinante del pezzo!

stupenda interpretazione!anche il pianoforte fa la sua parte!

  • I hate coughers. They should be bounced out of the place.

  • ditto

why would you go if you were sick?

and even if youre not do people just automatically HAVE to cough during performances?

  • They cough then, then they go buy the CD and brag to their friends that they are on it. I don't know hahaha.

  • @RAINBOWHORSES They cough because they're bored. Its like, a subconscious thing. They want everyone around them to to realize how bored they are. But no one cares, and in reality they should just leave if it bores them so much. I stay as quiet as possible when I'm in the audience, anything else is disrespectful.

  • @RAINBOWHORSES

It's not their fault. Most concert halls I've been too are fairly dusty. Couple that with lots of skin shedding humans packed into the same room and it's a wonder so many people are able to hold it in so well.

  • @RAINBOWHORSES its hard sometimes not to cough im sorry i probably wont go tonight

  • I think that waltz n.2 (Valse Brilliant) is actually op. 34 n.1. This should be Waltz n.3.

  • this guy should be called artur rubatostein, for his overusage of strategic pauses

  • You must take it into account that he was born in the 19th century. When he was young, pianists performed for audiences not for recordings.

  • @callenishss i would have loved that witty comment if it hadn't been for your dissing of this wonderful, wonderful pianist

  • @LisaMackXx I am callenishss, this is my new account. All of my earlier comments were farces on preexisting youtube viewers and commenters. I am just being a howard stern

  • אחד מהביצועים הטובים ביותר ליצירה זו.

  • The piece is rendered with eloquence, but the tonality and grace which this rather melancholy waltz exposes, is best interpreted by Ashkenazy as he is able to establish a balance between the cheerfulness of a waltz, and the rather nostalgic mood of this composition. Both are great interpretations, but Ashkenazy does not alternate between legato and staccato as Rubinstein does.

  • This waltz is rendered with elegance, but the tonality and grace which this particular piece demands are more vivid when it is played by Ashkenazy. He grasps the essence of the rhythm and, despite being a rather melancholy melody, nevertheless Ashkenazy establishes a balance between the cheerfulness of a waltz and the rather sombre mood of this piece.
