This is simply divine... despite the coughing people, which is actually normal. I guess nobody does it on purpose. But once while I've been to the opera, a woman who sat in front of me opened a candy with a terrible crackling noise, and because she thought it might be less noisy, she did it very slowly... but in fact it didn't change anything, it was still much too loud and we got aware of the amazing acoustics in Bastille Opera Paris. ;)
is it weird for me to be wanting to learn particle physics & astronomy while i already am learning 3-d animation & modeling & programming? & im only 17... i guess im a nerd but ive always been interested in coming up with ideas for making renewable energy (i already have had a few good clean energy ideas but i wouldnt know who to talk to) ive also had some good ideas on how to improve space travel... *sigh* these jumbly thoughts in my head arent being put to good use...
@deathgift0 I am trying to think of something more irrelevant and I am having a difficult time ..By the way if you were truely and deeply engaged on this areas you would not feel the need to brag about them on youtube, Chopin did not walk in the streets shouting, I am the best musician, Einstein did not record himself saying I am the ruler of physics and publish the recording and Chuck Norris does not enter churches shouting I am the creator of the universe.
@deathgift07 You can actually prove me wrong by analysing your idea on space travel or renewable energy, as I am actually a student of physics and can actually try to follow your thought. If I find it helpful I am seriously even willing to raise funds to actualise the idea. (It may be your lucky day)
That cougher really is a cockhead. He should have been ejected immediately after the second cough.. One cough leniency because maybe it was uncontrollable. But he coughed the whole way through. If I was sitting next to him I would have thought "fuck you".
it could just be that the person is a true music afficianado and would rather go see this piano master while sick than miss their opportunity. honestly people, be realistic.
Thie makes me mad, not the song, though Music of this sort does invoce feelings, BUT, this music, great music, is unappreciated in today's eye, I mean, Justin fucking Bieber's videos have what 33 Million? Come on people THINK
This may be a stupid question but I really don't know the answer-- Was this written for piano? I've heard this done with strings, too-- it was beautiful!
@coffeeforcake Not quite true, as he also wrote for piano and orchestra, his piano concerti and various other pieces for that combination being rather well known. But his solo piano pieces, like this one, were often orchestrated by others...
Everybody seems to forget that Chopin was hit by pulmonary tuberculosis and died from this disease. The problem is that the audience should cough only when there are traces of blood on the original score.
I always take a box of cough drops just in case there's the chance of a cough breakthrough. It's just so embarrassing!! I do love Chopin, and this lovely interpretation. Great and lightly done.
@pianoland I was taken to see Rubinstein when I was 6. I wanted to cough so so bad but I held it back. It is completely unacceptable to cough while the music is played. I'm glad I didn't cough at Rubinstein...
when this was recorded it was fashionable to smoke-hence the coughing-socially acceptable back in those days-the rich smoked and coughed when they wanted and how and where they wanted katalavenis yifto
@RAINBOWHORSES They cough because they're bored. Its like, a subconscious thing. They want everyone around them to to realize how bored they are. But no one cares, and in reality they should just leave if it bores them so much. I stay as quiet as possible when I'm in the audience, anything else is disrespectful.
It's not their fault. Most concert halls I've been too are fairly dusty. Couple that with lots of skin shedding humans packed into the same room and it's a wonder so many people are able to hold it in so well.
@LisaMackXx I am callenishss, this is my new account. All of my earlier comments were farces on preexisting youtube viewers and commenters. I am just being a howard stern
The piece is rendered with eloquence, but the tonality and grace which this rather melancholy waltz exposes, is best interpreted by Ashkenazy as he is able to establish a balance between the cheerfulness of a waltz, and the rather nostalgic mood of this composition. Both are great interpretations, but Ashkenazy does not alternate between legato and staccato as Rubinstein does.
This waltz is rendered with elegance, but the tonality and grace which this particular piece demands are more vivid when it is played by Ashkenazy. He grasps the essence of the rhythm and, despite being a rather melancholy melody, nevertheless Ashkenazy establishes a balance between the cheerfulness of a waltz and the rather sombre mood of this piece.

Rubinstein was the best but he was better with his Latin trio. And let's not forget how quick he was around the old accordion. Genius.
