They are different styles but....

For me, Zakk Wylde is way better, he has great technique, he is fast, but not only that, he plays with his heart and his soul.

John Petrucci is excellent too, but he is pure shredding, and technique. Sometimes, just pure shredding doesnt transmite anything. Very hollow.

I also agree with montefly. Petrucci is actually one of the most emotional players out there.. Just check his 'Hollow Years live at budokan solo' or 'Lines in the Sand' and 'Wither', just open your fucking mind for music. Zakk wouldn't stand a chance indeed in a guitar duel with John, since because the fact that John is a VERY emotional player and shitloads of times better technically than Zakk.

Petrucci has always been solid, seen him a few times on the G3 tour. Dream Theatre has always been a list topper for me too. In this case though, it's no contest, Mr. Zakk Wylde all the way.
