  • The creepy thing is, that he sees it in his dream and then at the end of the DVD, it comes true.

  • The 1970s version was characterising 1970s.(BTW,JC there looking a bit 1790s:-)) This version captures our days of 2000/2010 to be constantly actual. How else would you like to make the story actual,if not set it contemporary? And set it almost gay,to reveal/to admit it full gayness in Herod´s scene. To say it is the mirror (from Pilat to Herod to Pilat) - meaning it is two stories in one:physical and spiritual.Sure, everyone knows. But take JC really spiritually only and guess what you get...

  • @karelrysan what do you mean? Your opinion makes me curious, though I didn't understand all of it.

Could you please explain your opinion of "gayness" in the new version of JCS?

  • I don't know what problems some of you r having with this version. Its been said that immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I went as far as to get,not only the dvd but the original vhs tape of this marvelous musical. but give this version its due, its actually not that bad. But like I told others, you should have seen it in the drive in theaters in the earily seventies, what people were doing; it would have blown your minds.

  • Again, this is kind of distracting. Pilate has what appears to be a whip in his bed - and he sleeps naked? While I think this man is extremely handsome to look at, it's not really in the spirit of JCS, I don't think. Very talented cast here, though!

  • This man smiled gave me a smile today at the operahouse. Still starstruck.

  • Can we all just take a second to appreciate

    1. His face.

    2. His body.

    3. His voice.

    4. THE FACT THAT HE HAS A RIDING CROP IN BED WITH HIM.

  • @MissRobot1

Yep..Ur totally right..n Im a man..totally straight..n this guy is awesome. The JCS musical is awesome..listened to the 1970s version every easter when I was a kid..still have the LP.

  • @MissRobot1 And armor.

  • I stand corrected. I thought they'd cut this. I wonder if "We Are Decided" is around here somewhere.

  • Muscle Pilate??? Noooo!!!!

  • I don't like the decisions made in this scene. Pilate should not be angry as he seems to be in key moments of this song. Furthermore, Pilate should not be a bass.

  • @hczxp91 Well, you're right, he seems to be angry, but I think that's because he's scared about the dream, and that's the main feeling this scene wants to tell. Besides, I've listenend to thousands or millions of JC Superstar versions, and Fred Johanson will always be my favourite Pilate, his voice is freaking brilliant... Again, that's my opinion :)

  • He sleeps...naked...?

  • his voice, his boodie... oh god, orgams.

  • @Gabuchilovemanga organs?

  • this is a more opera kind version :) but also very cool!

  • Fantastic. Period.

  • Mute the video..

    Instant pornography!

  • He is hot!!!

  • wow, he's got such a silky voice!! It's lush!! XD

  • He has the most amazing voice for this song. I absolutely love it

  • i like the old one better. this scene isn't so overacted in the original

  • Excellent! Like this low tenor better than the other versions in higher octave. His acting is great too.

  • esta versión es un insulto a la obra...

  • @teneley xqee?

    NO !

  • This is one of my favorite songs. His voice is amazing.

  • I love this interpretation of Pilate- It shows how much that premonitiion scared him, and that he knew he had no control over what was about to happen. We see that he really WAS human, and that he didn't want to kill Jesus, but he was coerced into it... And he saw into present times, that Christans say Christ was "Crucified under Pontius Pilate", and it really disturbed him. You can see that he had human feelings. Just like we see that Jesus did. Some say it's wrong, but I love this humanity

  • I saw JCS three times on stage, I know the movie and I know the 70's LP...

Johanson is the most expressive Pilate EVER!

    KUDOS!

... where can I get the whole movie, I would even pay for it to complete my collection.

  • I swear this song is for a Baritone/Tenor, and if I'm not mistaken he is Bass lol

  • @BigItalianTony He really isnt. This song isn't low at all. He's a baritone with a resonant deep tone so it sounds lower than it is

  • Brilliant interpretation!

  • He has a good voice, but he sings the song pathetically

  • its so weird how in the beginning of this song, he's telling you what he saw in his dream. Then later on he sees it happening. Which is really creepy.

  • E' inavvicinabile all'originale del 1973.

  • Why does he sound so tortured? Pilate wouldn't have known the implications of the dream just yet...the torture isn't until later.

Also, I can't take this guy seriously. He reminds of a bear for some reason...like a giant teddy bear trying to be an authority figure. Though in this scene the singing isn't too bad, though at times a bit shouty...I prefer Dennen's voice by far.

  • @WickedWitchElphaba i thought Pilate is supposed to be a governmental puppet... hence like a giant teddy bear trying to be an authority figure.

  • I dunno. I think I like the 70's version better compared to this one. I liked the softness of Pilate's voice in that. This one is good, but I just find the other one more appealing to me.

  • This is so great! I'm impressed..

  • fantastic.

  • rose and cross...

i would drink a poisonous cup for you...

    if he did it...

  • I can not listen to this version

  • I auditioned for my school's musical with this song, and i got the role i wanted

  • Poor Tom of Finland Pilate, I hate when I'm binding like that.

  • kack emo schwuchtel. der braucht mal ne ordentliche line dann gehts auch wieder gut

  • does anyone else think this pilate is kinda sexy? not so much his face, but his voice and bod? i'm sure he's naked under those sheets ;)

  • in the Gospel, was Pilate's wife the one with the dream?

  • i'm in love with this man and his voice

  • no no no this is full of fail. prefer the 73 version

  • fantastic acting. beautiful singing. brovo.

  • ...oh man

    I LOVE him

  • Quite good but I still prefer the orginal or at least the old edition of this film

  • Great representation of Pilate

  • pilates is hot or fred johanson

  • great actor and singer!

  • Can't best the original.

  • esta muy bien yo se lo que dice porque como tengo el disco de camilo sesto 1976 pues se lo que dice

  • This is one scene that is still on par with the 1973 version. Very well done.

  • we named our cat Pilate. one of the reason was because of Pontious Pilate

  • @nileylove61551 haha...awesome, whats the other reasons?

  • Good Baritono!!!

(PD: I hate Youtube for mozilla)

  • holy smoke its JAFFAR

  • @kurumais what?

  • @kurumais thanks for that - very impressive interpretation.... almost classic...

  • @kurumais what? From Alladin?? Omg

  • it was is wifes dream though

  • @leathelwepons3 It was, but i guess that didnt really want to chuck in an extra character for one song

  • @SlappaDeBassMon An extremely short song at that...

  • It's the song , of course the singer is good, but that song....

  • Aww so sad :(

He's sexy btw :D And his voice is so dark and deep! It's absolutely stunning.

  • I prefer Barry Dennen

  • He has a really powerful voice, and still he manages to sound fragile and vulnerable in this song. That shows just how great his acting is! Hes great! Fred is the best Pilates! He nailed the role like Quast did with Javert!

  • I would really love to see Fred as Javert. I think he'd be great. He's my first Pilate!

  • This Pilate really seemed to nail the part of a tortured soul, unlike the 1971 movie version.

  • @batmous

i think the two versions just approach the action differently

totally agree this version is more dramatic and powerful

but the 1971 version is more natural and realistic, coz in this scene, Pilates doesn't reli know the implication of his dream, rite? so it is quite implausible to be so emotional and tortured when he wakes

the 1971 Pilates, however, was just a bit confused and treated it as 'just a dream'

  • @anovus but the dream was proberly like a nightmare to him normally when you wake up from a nightmare you get little bit scare so thats why he is proberly sweating and crying quite a bit

  • @anovus Good analysis, but it was 1973, not 1971

  • @batmous 1973!!!!!

  • I like his voice!

    it`s so deep...

  • Good!
