  • wow, what happened to her?

  • I remember watching this when I was little, curled up on the couch with my mother and father :')

  • See China, this is how it's DONE; Aussie style.

  • Sady she lost it in the last two years

  • I love how sign language is the same all over the world <3

  • @FunnySketcher Its not, google it. the sign of the hands may be the same, but the language is different like ASL and SEE are different

  • I REMEMBER THIS SO MUCH, BEST OLYMPICS EVER.

  • hay alguna pagina donde pueda bajar esta cancion en MP3?? :) la he buscado mucho y no la encuentro x ningun ladoo!! D:

  • Amazing...

  • I remember watching this. I was so proud to be Australian!

  • nawww <3

  • I remember watching this and being like "I wanna be her right now" I was only 4 ok!

  • Still a magnificent televisual performance after all these years. The stuff of legends!

  • I get goosebumps watching clips of 2000 olympics by far the best and most memorable year of my life.. i remember this night clear as day and always will, <3 <3

  • @Elenorahh me too and i was just 8 years old then!

  • @budgiebreder ME TOO!! :)

  • Proud To Be Aussie! :)

  • The way she sings it makes it seem like she's lipsyncing. Which is a shame. But she has a lovely voice. She had her 15 minutes of fame... but she would have been better remembered if she stuck to this, and turned down the record contracts.

  • it just goes to show if someone this young want diversity to be accepted, we can all accept it:)

  • wat

  • i like this because this is about australia and about harmony and i like this voice it very good, good voice i like it

  • HOLY SHIT! i was there! haha i was 4! this brings back so many memories!

  • no one has the lyrics for it so sad

  • @Teleenful

Search it up on google or something! Easy solution.

  • Oh my god ,, i love this song so much. the lil Girl was really sucessfull perform this song . I feel love this life more than ever while listening

  • Maddymouse Beijing's Opening ceremony may have bigger than Ben Hur but it is nothing in comparison to the Sydney Opening Ceremony. They're chalk and cheese. Sydney's ceremony is warm and inviting, Beijing's is cold and manufactured. Filled with numerous military personnel and falsehoods of a united china vis a vis the children of ALL ethnic groups. At least Sydney's ceremony was from the heart. and from another time before big bang electronic ceremonies were all the rage. said as a proud AUSSIE

  • SO MUCH NOSTALGIA

    OMG

  • this makes me sad. this was a time when the world was still peaceful. the following year came 9/11 and the whole craze about terrorist and be afraid of every race and religon, which we are still living with today. this was the last year when the world wasnt living in paranioa

  • China's opening ceremony shit all over our Sydney opening. :(

  • prettiest little girl alive she was <3

  • "Come from many different lands?" I thought Australians came from England and only England...

  • @willham95 I think she's singing about every country.....

  • @willham95 i was born in Australia and my parents are from Spain as well as my grandparents. Australia is a multicultural place where not all from England :)

  • oh my god i wish this song was true, i wish the whole could live as one, in a world of harmony, im from australia i LOVE nikki webster, but oh my god its so sad to think, just a year after this, the world was at war again from the 9/11 terrorist attacks, we can only ever have hope that the world will reunite, but sadly in my opinion it will never happen, there is always someone out there in the world, who wants to disagree with the rest of us, therefore we have war ): i love you nikki webster <3

  • boo

  • Responding to the lip syncing comment..... only truly live music at the S2000 Opening was the much maligned marching band.... everything else a pre-record........... Common for such a show but highlights how awesome those 1996 musicians were!

  • 11 Years still on and We are still the Best.

  • This probably would have been more convincing if Nikki Webster herself was not such a racist. Just sayin~

  • mILEY cyrus looked totally different as a kid.

  • @Rambl147 its not miley its nikki

  • @likefred02 I never knew britany spears had orange hair as a kid.

  • @Rambl147 Wtf? Miley Cyrus?

  • I remember singing this song for junior choir in primary school (i still do). especially for one of my friends. This song brings back strong memories whenever i sing or hear it.

  • are they doing sign language???

  • @MissLondonLook

Yes they are. They're singing the song in sign language as well as normal singing.

  • I'm doing this song for Glee.

  • Such an incredible "sweety" with so much talent. Keep going Nikki . . .

  • @MusicDiva90 same same but.. I have no idea where it is haha. And it came with stickers !

  • los mejores juegos olimpicos de la historia sin lugar a duda..!! i love AUSTRALIA..!!

  • The Southern Cross means so much to me, it's forever engrained into my skin. As it is numerous others.

  • WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SONG...:)

    \,,/_ _\,,/

  • the sydney 2000 opening ceremony was probably the only opening ceremony that has ever had so many meaningful songs in it!

It is still by far the best opening ceremony for that reason.

(I hope london uses sydney as a template for the opening ceremony!)

  • it looks like shes lipsynching

  • @beautanista it's probably just the quality of the video

that or she is cause no one is that composed that young infront of that many people

so they mabye prerecorded it so she wasn't shakey..?

  • I remember when I was lil' watching this.

And bought her strawberry kisses album :)

  • @Moniquekikay93 i sill have that album lol :)

  • :/ that seriously doesnt sound real

  • Looks like she's lip syncing

  • i love this song.

  • This is a good song . What a young girl triumphant . Good stuff from Nicki, you

pretty young thing . Good luck for the future .

  • Makes me wish I were Australian. I actually want to go to Australia one day :)

  • beijing and sydney were the best olympics ever

  • im SO proud of syd, of australia!! <3 my country

  • Beutiful song hot chik to i knew shed be hot wen i saw her then

  • Gay

  • I cant Believ she grew up to become such a Slut.

    Great Jobs ASSuies.

  • @Light48

Oh yeah cause Australia's the only country where a child star turned into a "such a slut"

    2 words.... Miley Cyrus

  • i sing better

  • this song bring a tear to my eye when ever i here it

  • that was beautiful. :) and the sign lang, made it so much more awesome. but why were the people standing behind her dressed all random?

  • the songs in the sydney opening ceremony are the best. I like this one alot!!! well done sydney! 10 years today!

  • My english Teacher, Maria Millward wrote this song :)

  • @SmellySocksJocks Really? awesome!

  • we had to sing this song in our choir, and they picked the worst singers to do the solo parts.... this song had been poisoned and i hated it.

    THANK YOU NIKKI

you made this song nice again.

  • i remember this like it was yesterday!

  • had to sing this at the Sydney Opera House

  • wow after reading the all the comments...shes not lip syncing everything was real except the music due to weather conditions...HELLO technology was that great 10 years ago yeah it looks like shes lip syncing but she isnt, the feedback of the television is half a second off of live feedback duuuuuuuuuh, it sounds fake to u guys cuz shes standing not moving like other performers... u can hear her accidently blew into the mic when she said the word "the" at 2:59...

  • Australia and its people have so much culture

  • Best olympics EVER full stop

  • Who cares about Nikki. This song is so amazing! I am so thankful we live in this great Southern Land, a world of harmony.

  • She has such a beautiful voice. I think it'll be an interesting journey for her to become a woman in Australian media. She was very sweet, and I fully get chills listening to this, and remembering how I felt ten years ago when I saw this. I was SO proud. She was a total pro, and I really appreciate what she's going through. But she needs to cut back on the raunch I think. anyhoo, tuttah.

  • LMAO 10 years later - Zoo Weekly.

  • @KenanVideos Wtf I meant 6

  • @KenanVideos yeah

  • A fantastic show by David Atkins. Where can I view the complete opening or download??

  • love it

  • is that girl who was also in "You've got mail"?

  • It's Nikki Webster

  • Fuckin dicks, aussie news kept putting shit on beijiing cause they lip sync, but nikki did to, even if shes lip singing to her own voice or not shes still not singing live

  • @shiozza ... maybe if she is lippin it... maybe she had a sore throt... thats what i do if i can't sing cause i lost my voice or have a cold or something like that...

  • i LOVE this song :)

  • first olympics where i watched the entire opening and closing ceremonies, and also the best i've ever seen.

  • How about the northern skies ? XD

  • not ever XD

  • @ninjawux roflmaos australia is in the southern hemisphere thats why its the southern skies lol so we dont say northern

  • dude you're taking it too serious I was just joking XD

  • she was lip-syncing simple because how else can you ensure that she would actually be heard? in some performances she had to fly around. in my opinion she's a great singer and it was a good idea to have her lipsync to her own voice just to ensure that she'd have a voice!

  • I hated her so much at the time because I was stuck at home with the chicken pox funny now that I look back on it but at the time I hated her although I've always liked the song

  • I am so sad Maneater that you feel so cynical towards this performance, It was a little girl so full of joy and welcoming to the world it is so sad not to respond and be open. Even today many years after the 2000 Olympics we still love the wonderful people we welcomed to our country and the fun we had. Nicky is a women today but will always be remembered as the lovely young girl who opened our Sydney Olympics.

  • @AussieMum99 i don't agree. they should of had the qantas kids sing. i hate break it to u but Nicki Webster is the Australian version of disney stars. no talent no voice no personality. the aboriginal deserve more recognition.

  • @missrosetejano LMAO. She may not beyour favourite Aussie Icon or fave singer (she isnt mine) but you cant deny she has a voice!

  • @AussieMum99 I agree, so I'll visit your beautiful country this Xmas!

  • @AussieMum99 I agree, so I'll visit your beautiful country this Xmas! One of the motivation is I'm moved by this song.

  • nice!

    Rio 2016!

  • Whenever I hear this song's chorus, my hair stands on end, I love this song.

  • Metube877 - She's lip syncing - so how can u say this was "NOT well sung?" - it's a recording!!

In any case she sounds like a young Michael Jackson , even the feel/vibe of the song is very early MJ.

  • She lip synced on the night but she actually sang this.

  • The most courageous and magnaninous display I ever saw on stage. Truly stunning...... at 13. Wish she never have to grow up.

  • i remeber this like it was yesterday. if we host another olympics, i very much doubt the ceremonies would be as good or better than this. hope im wrong though.

  • she should've kept singing in the future~

  • i loved nikki when she was young but now shes all different

  • This was not well sung, she did We'll Be One perfectly.. but this was not 100%.. let down

  • My Mum wrote this song, and my Uncle composed the music :D

  • My parents did you idiot, dont try to steal there credit!

  • im 14 years old, and i remember when i was in kindy, mum woke me up to show me nikki webster singing, i remember feeling so proud to me australian, haha, i loved nikki webster

  • is Celine Dion singing in 2000 Olympic?? Nikki Webster have amazing voice, yes i agreed with Meshwork. Deffy she did bring the world into Sydney =)

  • This reminds me that I am still looking for a copy of the 2000 Olympics Closing Ceremony DVD. Anyone know where I can buy it. I've searched and searched and SEARCHED!?

Please tell me that the IOC isn't being stingy.

  • It is a real problem, agree. Looks like what we are searching for does not exist...

  • i was so proud of sydney olympics!! i live in sydney and was at the opening ceremony - of cours ei was only 7 then, but i loved it!!

love u nikki, grew up with style and kept ur head! :P

  • i remember this day, god.

i used to look up to her like a rolemodel.

sung every song she ever had.

i remember singing this in primary for the choir.

    memories.

    + she's not lip-syncing.

i think my theory, as she says it.

the microphone has to make it so the whole stadium has to hear it and the sound travels slower to the camera.

  • Yeah she's lip syncing, all the singers did that night! It sounds exactly the same as the olympics soundtrack.

Either way she did an awesome job!

  • very bad impression given or reflected

  • how?

  • I'm not at all a patriotic Australian, but I was so proud of this young lady when I first saw her appear at the 2000 Olympics. She helped bring Sydney to the world that evening.

  • beautiful song, but i cant believe she's 13 there...she looks like shes 10

  • its a really nice song.... it also make me cry.... love u celine dion

  • These are the days :) the sydney olympics was the best olympic ever :D it will remain in my heart forever :)

  • Omg. thanks so much for posting this. We had to sing this in music today and i was crying! PS:: she is small. lol. cute.

  • voksvictor: thanks for posting this. We never got to see this because we were traveling at the time. I wonder what it felt like for Nikki to know one bloody billion people were watching her. I wonder what that feels like. I've played before 10,000 but this? I can't even get there. But I wish I could. Again: thanks for the clip!

  • some of the movies on youtube have a delay between audio & video, so if you are relying on youtube for proof of her lip syncing, i'd try something different like a tv recording.

  • It was that Chinese girl really singing. ;) They are NOT going to risk a transmission with 1,000,000,000 viewers. Even Midnight Oil's closer wasn't completely live. Look up 'DAT' at Wikipedia. Yeah and I still think she's fabulous yeah!

  • i dont care if she was singing or not, she had heart and courage to go up there and do that. good on her.

  • this is a reminder of a really good time. 89 was gone and 911 was still ahead. I admit, there was stil a lot of trouble going on. but the sydney olympics were games of unitiy, where most of us were positive. and this song for some reason is the compressed feeling of then. god, i miss these these times.

  • I agree the world will never be the same as it was at that point in time.

  • I also agree quirri. Since Sydney Olympics Innocence has been lost, We question everyone and everything. Such a shame. But I still have hope and love.

  • I believe Syndey Olympics is the best one so far. Hope Australia will host another Olympics, maybe Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, or so on.

  • sammyonyt I also hope we have the honour of one day hosting another Olympics. Not only for the sport but the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people from throughout the world. It was so exciting to share our wonderful city with such lovely people.

  • @AussieMum99 Innocence hasn't been lost. A girl grew up. Thats life.

Why do people always have to cling on to the child performers- chide them for turning into normal adults. It ruins their lives.

  • precocious little bitch

  • i was there!!!!!! i remeber seeing here and ahh it was so awesome being there....sydney has had the best opening ceremony ever

  • AGRREEES! :D

  • but even if she is lip syncing the stadium is massive how on earth is the a WHOLE stadium meant to hear her? i mean wow the massive stadium all hear her then how about t.v and stuff?

  • i 'wuv' this song!!

  • Ahh it feels like yesterday when i was sitting at home watching this! :) It would take guts to sing in front of everyone like she did :O

  • pre-recorded

  • i wonder how they amplify her voice so the whole stadium can hear her sing. Does anyone know? is she actually singing or lip syncing from a pre recording of her voice?

  • She is lipsycing.

  • technology is a powerful thing..

    she isn't lipsycing.

    truuuuust me.

  • I saw a head-set microphone beside her mouth.

  • sydney australia olympics will remain in my heart forever .. it was the best olympics ever :D olympics 2000 :) gives me goose bumps .. too :P i miss the old times ..

yeah i have to agree australia is the best country ever hehe .. aussies !!!

  • Redneck

  • I swear i can sign this song in my sleep now

  • Ha i danced in this part with my school i was in year 6 i find it funny how nikki got so much attention when we were the ones who were training 7 8 months befor the olympics

  • i love this song.. i remember sitting at home and wathcing the sydney opening ceremony.. i was 10 at the time and loved it..

  • omg same!!!! well i was 8 and i looked at nikki as such an older girl. but wow she is brave to do that in front of all those people.

  • CHEWBACA! 0:29

  • Undoubtedly the best Olympics ever. This song gives me goosebumps!

  • yeah yeah i love sydney australia olympic opening hope there are more nice ceremony in sydney yeah i love this city the view are so amazing and great thank you

  • huh?..

...not only because you're chinese and japanese, but what else???

  • remain in my heart forever

  • Damners. this brings so much memories! I was here! I was 6..

  • Aw, this brings back SO many memories. Best Olympics ever. And I'm not just saying that because I'm Australia.

  • Best Olympics ever!

  • I love this song :) I've never been able to get it out of my mind since I first heard it 8 years ago and I'm happy I found it here :)

  • omgcheese

  • Im so proud to be Australian!!!!!!!!!!!

No one ever thought we could pull off the best Olympics in History.............. we were on par with Rome back when they all began

  • rofl, they started in Greece not Rome.

  • im sorry.....GREECE it was...........

  • Why is everyone bagging this?

It was a fantastic Olympics, Juan Antonio Samarach, the president of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) claimed that it was "the best Olympics ever".

So can we all just get off our high horses, and stop commenting negatively on this video and the games? It's ruining the song.

  • GO SYDNEY CEREMONY

    GO AUSTRALIA

    GO NIKKI

    better then beijing

  • what the, i was hardly criticizing. i was just stating that i liked sydney better..just like your stating that u liked beijing better.

all i remember about the beijing was well i got bored and stoped watching

  • Oh piss off, Beijing was just playing the song instead of singing live , we can call that creative but not artistic

  • socalazn168: u might wanna know that i just checked out the google thing abt the fake orchestra .......but sorry to tell u ....u r wrong! thats becaause the orchestra was pre recorded but they were actually playing it! it was only pre-recorded for back up! incase anything went wrong! ur probably chinese thats why u cant handle any criticism against the totally fake beijing olympics! but i assure u that i am no aussie, yet i defend the truth!
