Some things never change. Miners talking a big drift... In the bar. More rock broke there than underground. Worked with good hands from all over the world. Worked with some hay hands as well. No nationality has a corner on the market.
I worked for Stillwater in 2001-3; the air was shitty but not as shitty as the mine management. I helped move the Boart drillers from time to time. From the east side to the west side of the mine was easily three miles of drift on the 3800 level.
@HardRokMiner ..Worked with a heap of ex Stillwater hands up in Alaska....no body had a good word for that place......and a lot of them were...Boot leg miners as well...and no alls....must be what they produce down that way....
@ozziairlegger You got that right. I have yet to meet an American who is even half as good as he says he is. My dad use to have a saying for guys like that "If you could buy him for what he's worth, and sell him for what he thinks he's worth, you'd make a billions.
@HardRokMiner ..Right on....You must be Canadian..?..worked with heaps of them...Redpath up in Irian Jaya...also Barrick Gold in Tanzania...they are more like Aussies to work with...the lower forty eight guys...are still in the stone age with mining methods...drilling six packs instead of using reamers etc...mucking out....and then putting the dirt back to bolt off..I used to laugh at them....wage miners..never been on contract..
Top hammer drills are for girls...if you want good long straight hole in any ground? you need to get an I.T.H i.e a Cubex drill...I.T.H DRILLERS DO IT IN THE HOLE!LOL! Good company you work for! Boart longyear is the best longhole contractor i've ever worked with!thanx for posting this!
@whereiztheluv ...Top hole hammers take more skill to operate.....and the holes are only as straight as the driller who drills it....no matter...DTH....or what.....drilling that raise looked slow....50 ft.. at about 45%.......could of run it up on ladders with a Jackleg...in about 3 shifts..lol....what are they thinking..?
