In UK tenor horn is equivalent to Eb Alto Horn. This is a Bb baritone horn (same range of euphonium)

Can somebody please give me a hint how to separate all these brass instruments from each other? I mean I know what the diffenrence between french/vienna horn, trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone and tuba is but there are so many other ones, like Euphonium, Tenorhorn, baritone horn, wagner tuba……

@FilmComposeRaHoppe well i play baritone horn and the diffenrence between a baritone and a euphonium is the number a valves Baritone is 3 and a Euphonium is 4-5 other than that they are almost the same.

@Mizuki578 OH IT MOST DEFINITELY IS NOT! Euphonium has a much darker richer smoother and efficient tone, which is why it is a solo instrument and not commonly found in symphonies... Baritone on the other hand is more of a lighter and brighter instrument for higher instrumentation's and are found in symphonies... never make this mistake again, its unforgivable!

This is the most wonderful piece I have ever heard for baritone and for brass of ALL sorts. Not sure if I should generalize brass so much but... well there you have it. This song truly reached me, and usually brass is my least favorite instrument group.

@Mizuki578 Depends on where you are. In the UK the baritone has a tighter, less conical bore and a brighter edgier tone, whereas the euph is soft and rich. Here in the states we used to make what we called baritones but were pretty much like euphs. Since we import so many band instruments now, the Japanese and other Pacific Rim baritones are more like UK baritones.

I really love baritone. I used to be obsessed with euphonium, but baritone is so much more versatile. It can play warm, absolutely beautiful pieces just as easily as it can sound as aggressive as a bull ready to charge.

It's actually a true Bb baritone (same pitch as euphonium but with a smaller, more cylindrical bore), not a tenor horn, which is in Eb - known in the US as an alto horn. Terminology can be confusing since the Germans do call this size instrument a tenorhorn, as called for in Mahler's 7th symphony. @gsmonks this video was taken in 2004! She plays as a guest soloist for lots of top brass bands, I saw her at the butlins contest this year I think and she was absolutely amazing. I think she teaches at Birmingham Conservatoire now.

@bolasnah it does matter, in most cases. definitely not in her case, its the way she leaned, its the way she plays best. the reason its not necessarily the best way is because as you press like that, the tips of each valve can come loose. im not sure of you play the baritone or not, but the tips of the valves, the part you press down on, are only screwed on. it doesnt seem to matter for her though. she is incredible
