no doubt an ancestor is a guy name named egbert van alstyne who wrote the music to this hit of the day, in the shade of the old apple tree. i found this video while doing a search of my name i am also a musician, thanks egbert for the inspiration. brian van alstyne from florida via connecticut
Littleshoemaker, thanks for posting all the early Petula Clark songs..just think, 15 years after this..she would be going "Downtown "..glad that she did..it was the "British Invasion"..we Yanks thought we had "discovered" Petula..good to see her early efforts.
It's an honour given by the country, usually for some sort of service rendered to the country, and, if she gets it, instead of being Miss Petula Clark, she will be Dame Petula Clark. (Of course, in fact she is married and her real name is Madame Petula Wolff, so I suppose her new name would be Dame Petula Wolff.)
Petula's handlers had a heck of time trying to come up with a "look" for her. My twin brother is compiling a library of all these films. It's a hoot. She looks totally different in every single one.

That's how things were before they invented the drum-machine and scratch-box.

Man, I had no idea Petula was that old! binkle1, you are right about her looks. I would have not known that it was her.

A bit like the Judy Garland/Mickey Rooney "let's put on a show" flicks from the '30s.

Well, it's no "Downtown", but it'll do!
