This is probably the best fanfilm out there...along one batman fanfilm. Really amazing work, IMHO more close to the books themes and tone than the Jackson films which I know you love, but really you did better with much less. kudos.

Wow, great trailer and amazing monster effects. I had never heard about this until a couple days ago, I remembered seeing The Hunt for Gollum about a year ago and thought I would watch it again, and I just saw that the makers of that advertised your movie. The music was really beautiful too, reminded me of the track Samwise the Brave from The Two Towers.
For how much they had, the quality of the movie was amazing!!! Not to mention the acting and the storyline. I absolutely loved this movie a 100000000% and will recommend it to anyone and everyone!!
The quality for this considering the cost is amazing I love how the title of the movie reflects how this movie came about. Born of hope indeed. It's galling to think that some truly awful movies got masses of cash thrown at them but this was made with only £25,000 I hope the actress behind this gets a lot more support for future endeavours since she's so truly sincere about her work.
Guys you have to remember before you strongly criticize this trailer/film that they aren't big Hollywood actors and producers, you would think this was made by one. So just remember don't troll unless you can make something better.

I just watched the full film and it was a triumph, the Actors are most certainly at work, there were several moments when i forgot i was watching a low budget film and wished that i could have been included in its production. Well done all of you, truly well done.
I really don't see any worth in this venture other than "I made a movie blah blah blah". You saw what Peter Jackson did and copied it. You've added nothing. You've created nothing. In fact you've taken a great big stinking poo on Lord Of The Rings, you've soiled it's greatness with your lack of imagination and self indulgent backslapping
it's brilliant but sad...the only things that could in my opinion be changed, are the ring of barahir, it looks so corny and second: when arathorn dies, it resembles boromir's death, however, it's good how he fight's on. brilliant way to keep the story going. 50/5 stars everything lotr!!! remember, don't be a fool of a took

That being said, if I could make few positive remarks:
1-when Arathorn is in the orc cave, one of the orcs has pristine white teeth xD and the chief orc has white hands when he's picking the rings lol
2-when someone is looking in the distance, I can actually see it's a background image of fields or mountains in front of the character, more special effects are needed to achieve depth of field
after watching this movie :... good effort on story and custom estr .... but the real dunedain dont fight like theas fagie actors . not passion , no blood lust , just fagie stage acting ... and most the lines are delivered in Shakespearean verse , witch ruins a lote of it . stupid fagie actors .
but clearly a lote of love went in to this so 5 out of 5 all round because of effort . most people who like the LOTR will like this too i think .

Fair point, but have you seen the film or just the trailer? They are very different things and show fights in a different way. This is not meant to be LOTRs, that's been done, it is a low budget character based prequel, deliberately filmed in the same style as PJs films. I don't think I wasted my money. Most people seem to love the film and I doubt I'd have nearly 1 million views if I'd done an original film as my first feature.
This movie is right up there with Peter Jackson's LotR. Same yet different, that's why I love it.
I would not be surprised that if 6 years from now this movie grew to be so famous that someone makes a fan film based on this, just as this was a fan film based on LotR.
Finally found another movie that's comparable with LotR.
To critique the fight scenes in an honest way may have had some merit - I think it would still be lame, but at least you would have a leg to stand on. There are a few things that are clear from your post: 1 - you have not watched the entire film, only the trailer. 2 - you are jealous of what has been created and what a person following their dreams can actually accomplish. You can't compare a mid range HD dv camera like the RED ONE to something like an ARRI 35mm camera. They are in a different world all together. You obviously don't work in the film industry. How many cinema released features have you been on that use a RED? All the ones I have been on use a 35mm. The RED belongs where it is used, in high end commercials and low budget feature films such as the one above. The Arriflex D-20 costs about 50 times more than a RED ONE, and that is excluding a lense.

How predictable, there are female rangers and warriors in it, doing things like knocking out orcs with one punch as if its the most natural thing in the world. Stop polluting LOTR with your fashionable Buffy/ Xena Warrior Princess BS.
What about Eowyn you muppet? Or Galadriel? Not all Middle-earth females are "damsels in distress". This film is far closer to the books than Jackson's films.
The message today seems to be that if women don't display masculine strength then they're weak or "damsels in distress". What a load of BS. There are many types of strength beyond the obvious and crude strength good for combat where women can't even begin to compete. Women are capable of their own strength, made more noble precisely because of their physical limitations.
Ye you've got Eowyn resembling the Buffy archetype somewhat, but Tolkien gave a satisfying explanation as to why she was that way and why it clearly wasn't the norm. Galadriel's power and strength had nothing to do with being good with a sword. If you knew anything about LOTR then you'd know that.
I find it amazing all those who have nothing better to do but put down or criticize this work. I didn't realise there were so many jealous people out there. Give the lady credit where it's due. Or better yet, put up or shut up.
I still cannot understand where the millions of dollars go in Hollywood films. I think that is for snob actors who can't actually act! Look at this it was made for 25k. You get the idea and you get the story, what else do you need?
The fact that the crew worked for free, or the fact when condensed down it took half the time a full feature does. The fact they haven't spent hundreds of thousands on global marketing, or the fact A list stars wern't used. The list goes on. Educate yourself.

While she could have made it more original, she has clearly stated that Peter Jackson's films were very inspiring to her, and that they "blew her away". I think perhaps she thought his idea seemed accurate and wanted to stick with it. I don't think she's doing it in any way but to show admiration for his vision of the books. The films are the reason she started this in the first place.

As stated by Beastilog, this cost 25K. Peter Jackson had a multi-million dollar budget behind him. In fairness, I'm sure I could put together a decent production for that amount and some common sense. Give credit where credit is due. In this case, it's clearly due!!!
I don't see how anyone could criticize this. Even if it does copy some of Peter Jackson's original work, it's done very well and for a first attempt by an amateur using all her own money I think it's a fantastic achievement. I hope to see more from this young film maker in the future.

Looks fairly good considering the low budget and limited resources. However I think comments from the media about it being serious competition to Guillermo del Torro's Hobbit film are pushing it a bit.

But then again your comparing a recording from a 2 mega pixel mobile phone, mine was a minute clip of a baby or the lads night out, hardly me claiming some flea bitten ripoff to an epic movie trilogy. good job on the observation there. There are plenty of Trolls on YouTube to slag off people they have never met and their hard work. It will only have been removed if enough youtube users have given it a thumbs down. Why do all the fight scenes of these fan films look the same. big, one punch hooks and uppercuts...sorry, but this is not LOTR and all kate did was copy the style of peter jackson. all this shows is that jackson did it better which we knew. be original kate. you wasted your money on your nerdy obsession.

Fair point, but have you seen the film or just the trailer? They are very different things and show fights in a different way. This is not meant to be LOTRs, that's been done, it is a low budget character based prequel, deliberately filmed in the same style as PJs films. I don't think I wasted my money. Most people seem to love the film and I doubt I'd have nearly 1 million views if I'd done an original film as my first feature.

This movie is right up there with Peter Jackson's LotR. Same yet different, that's why I love it.
I would not be surprised that if 6 years from now this movie grew to be so famous that someone makes a fan film based on this, just as this was a fan film based on LotR.
Finally found another movie that's comparable with LotR.

To critique the fight scenes in an honest way may have had some merit - I think it would still be lame, but at least you would have a leg to stand on. There are a few things that are clear from your post: 1 - you have not watched the entire film, only the trailer. 2 - you are jealous of what has been created and what a person following their dreams can actually accomplish. To say she wasted her money on a "nerdy obsession" shows how little you actually get what has happened here. You lose.

You can't compare a mid range HD dv camera like the RED ONE to something like an ARRI 35mm camera. They are in a different world all together. You obviously don't work in the film industry. How many cinema released features have you been on that use a RED? All the ones I have been on use a 35mm. The RED belongs where it is used, in high end commercials and low budget feature films such as the one above. The Arriflex D-20 costs about 50 times more than a RED ONE, and that is excluding a lense.

The message today seems to be that if women don't display masculine strength then they're weak or "damsels in distress". What a load of BS. There are many types of strength beyond the obvious and crude strength good for combat where women can't even begin to compete. Women are capable of their own strength, made more noble precisely because of their physical limitations.

Ye you've got Eowyn resembling the Buffy archetype somewhat, but Tolkien gave a satisfying explanation as to why she was that way and why it clearly wasn't the norm. Galadriel's power and strength had nothing to do with being good with a sword. If you knew anything about LOTR then you'd know that.

The fact that the crew worked for free, or the fact when condensed down it took half the time a full feature does. The fact they haven't spent hundreds of thousands on global marketing, or the fact A list stars wern't used. The list goes on. Educate yourself.

While she could have made it more original, she has clearly stated that Peter Jackson's films were very inspiring to her, and that they "blew her away". I think perhaps she thought his idea seemed accurate and wanted to stick with it. I don't think she's doing it in any way but to show admiration for his vision of the books. The films are the reason she started this in the first place.

As stated by Beastilog, this cost 25K. Peter Jackson had a multi-million dollar budget behind him. In fairness, I'm sure I could put together a decent production for that amount and some common sense. Give credit where credit is due. In this case, it's clearly due!!!

I don't see how anyone could criticize this. Even if it does copy some of Peter Jackson's original work, it's done very well and for a first attempt by an amateur using all her own money I think it's a fantastic achievement. I hope to see more from this young film maker in the future.

I don't see any merit in a badly made cheap as chips rip off. the trailer looks like a total copy of the best scenes from LOTR badly directed and shot on a home camcorder. and the little legal disclaimer is pointless we all know its JRR Tolken's LOTR. pissing on what you love, what Peter Jackson achieved, is retarded. what a waste of time

But then again your comparing a recording from a 2 mega pixel mobile phone, mine was a minute clip of a baby or the lads night out, hardly me claiming some flea bitten ripoff to an epic movie trilogy. good job on the observation there. At no point did I say I was a professional film maker or claim to do something for a living. I am an avid movie goer and film critic for a number of sites. This supposed movie, looks terrible, everything a movie shouldnt look this does. poor poor movie....

@peeonatree I don't make piss poor, over ambitious or pretencious films. They are just recordings of day to day things. However... with a small budget of a few hundred pounds and a semi decent mobile phone camrea, I could and would knock out a clip that would excel this pile of horse faeces, in both hits a likablility.
To lay claim to one of the most successful films triliogies and books of all time with this mockery...
