  • They played it at The Forum in Los Angeles, as well. Breathtaking!!

  • This is the only song from the Gabriel era that I like Phils voice better.Especially the version on the live album . I like everything up till Abacab but after that I just couldn't listen to them anymore.Just my opinion.I miss those days but sure am glad I grew up when I did and not now .

  • never beaten!!!

  • I saw them in February of this tour; I'd heard they were doing part of Supper, and was very excited...I was ecstatic to hear In that Quiet Earth...but then disappointed to hear Afterglow like all the previous live records I'd heard. Never quite got why they played this song so much.

  • what a success band!

  • I obviously saw them at the wrong time and in the wrong place on this tour. Only took me twenty-five years to find out.

  • @mlester72 It could have been worse. I had read that they had played Supper's Ready in Philly in '86. Then they come to DC, they get to the part in the medley where it's supposed to kick in, and instead it's . . . Afterglow. A very good song in and of itself, but, c'mon, nothing compares to Supper's Ready! I was literally heart-broken. Oh well, at least I saw Genesis in '82 when they played the whole song.

  • Very nice, but this light show is not nearly as spectacular as the one they used in 1982 for this section of Supper's Ready.

  • Anyone who says they aren't moved by this has no heart, no soul, no brain, and is lying.....

  • classic wish i was there to see it great to see them play this classic song

  • So. Much. More. Power. Than Peter's version. Actually, Peter is better suited for singing that sort of theatrical breakdown in the middle section of the full song, but Phil blows him out of the water on the last half. This was a great rendition. But that '76 one with Bruford on drums takes the cake. Religious experience.

  • Isn't it funny that THIS song got more applause than Lets Say In Too Deep or Invisible Touch?

Really a shame that it was left out and that there is no Proshot of this Performance... And Great to see some people in the upper left corner listening to the concert :D

  • @illegalalien2 this is the most classic genesis song, including peter gabriel.. invisible touch is without peter

  • Epic arms streched 'till the end!

  • @MokRodrigues I was half-expecting a pair of wings to emerge from Phil's back at the end :)

  • @SPeacock He has to hide them every time they had to sing this song XD. If I see this live one day I'm going to cry like a baby and sing along like it is the last moments of my life. I would really love to die while hearing this masterpiece.

  • @MokRodrigues Me too. I actually write movie scripts while listening to this magnum opus :) Gives my stories a bit of grandeur.

  • @MokRodrigues So would I my friend, so would I. And many others would cherish that moment as well. Dare I say this is THE most powerful and moving song ever! I'm getting emotional just listening to it. "There's an angel standing in the sun..." And at Rutherford's guitar after that line, I just lose it! (6:12) God only knows what I'd do if I ever heard it live.

  • @Madman007 Are you sure with Rutherford? Daryl Stuermer played the guitar on Suppers Ready, Mike only played the Bass. But would have been if the band swapped the instruments and Mike would have done the Suppers Ready Solo :D

  • @illegalalien2 Fairly sure. I do know Mike played a 12-string too. The guitar at that moment sounds too slow to be Stuermer but it sounds the same on the original, which does sound like Hackett, so maybe I'm wrong. Regardless, it's still a powerful riff despite it's short length.

  • @Madman007 The 12 String Guitar was used at the first part of Suppers Ready "Lovers Leap", but not at the apocalypse. And yes, you heard right, Daryl can play slow !

I have uploaded the Firth of Fifth Version from the Abacab Tour, He played it slower than the on the tours after, like the We Cant dance Tour. So if he wants, he can sound like on the album. The same with Ripples :)

  • @Madman007 Yeah! It's my favorite song of all time! It's emotional, powerful and changes the mood throughout this musical journey.

  • Gotta love the enthusiasm of the guy screaming "Supper's Redaaaaaay" at the beginning of the clip :D

  • Why oh why could they not have released this with some great sound quality or even better played it on the reunion tour in 2007. With the better equipment and technology it would have been even more breathtaking than usual.

  • THANK-YOU !

  • This is the part of the show where all the Phil loving soccer Moms head for the ladies room. Pure gold!

  • Wow...still get chills watching this...I was also at the Toronto show in '82 when they did Supper's Ready...unbelievable.

  • Saw it in Philly/ The absolute last gasp of the great Genesis. Glad it was recorded. They then played Invisible Touch right after that, I got disgusted and left.

  • this organ solo is one of tony banks´ finest -- it really is very ballsy and sinister!

  • @MoveOverCasanova I've tried playing that solo, and I still can't get it right (about a month of practice).

  • What a document ! Probably the last time "Supper's ready" was played live...

  • @MrCommissairejuve No, the last Time was in Nea Zealand, also on the Invisible touch Tour :)

  • @illegalalien2 Thank you very much for the information. Let me tell you I really enjoy listening to this video. A must have !

  • @MrCommissairejuve No Problem, its a great performance of Suppers ready on the Invisible touch Tour. I have heard the Radio Version from Los Angeles on that Tour, there Phil got more problems to sing this song :D

  • @illegalalien2

I guess thats why they did Afterglow instead. Phil,s voice had started to decline

  • @MrCommissairejuve they did do lover's leap on the Ray Wilson tour...

  • they did that gig in phila. glad I got to see this. what a light show those guys had too

  • Ain't nothin' like being a NY Genesis fan. :D

  • WOW just playin around and found this vid.I was at toronto show.what a memory, almost died when they played this.Never again.we can only dream.

  • What a band my Gooooooooooooooood!!

  • breathtaking

  • If you don't get chills while Phil is singing the last verse, you are not alive.

  • @kev5621 yeah, but before Peter, the 73 version.

  • Listen to the crowds reaction that they are playing Supper's Ready! NYC man!

  • You can hear the rapture of the recordist (excuse my grammar) when the riff is played round once!!!!!!!!!

  • Ah you guys were so LUCKY!!!! They didn't do Apocalypse in 9/8 on the European tour as it was earlier in the set, and Afterglow was put in instead.

It's wonderful to see that there are so many videos uploaded of the American leg of the tour, if anyone knows where to find the entire concert in video i'd love to know.

  • I like the YEAHS of the audiance :-) I would have cried, shouted, screamed everything at the same time

  • It's too bad Phil's voice couldn't handle SR after the early shows on this tour. The funny thing is though if you listen to some clips on youtube from the 1982 tour his voice sounds much raspier singing SR than in this clip, and yet in 1982 they kept SR in its entirety in the set throughout the entire tour.

  • @raelraven2 82 was a much, much shorter tour. Also he didn't totally blow out his voice like he did in New Zealand in 86. They couldn't risk doing that again so they switched to Afterglow

  • The last time SR was played was on 23 November 1986 in New Zealand (the Apocalypse in 9/8 part eventually turned out to be TOO much of a strain on Phil's voice). That's why we got Afterglow for the 1987 leg (Europe), and the exclusions of "In Too Deep", "Follow You Follow Me" and "Your Own Special Way" (Australia/NZ only). Good find, though - I must give you credit :)

  • Oh my. I used to have this on VHS. I believe this was 10-1-1986. I was at the show on the 29th of September and the 22nd in Toronto. Thanks so much for posting this and providing the opportunity to relive this moment!

  • @emcderm Sorry, But this New York Show was on 3.october . But there are Audio recordings from your Gigs ;)

Yes, its great to have this Video, it makes so much fun watching Phil singing the Apocalpyse !

  • @illegalalien2 Dude, I taped both those shows, the 29th is gone, I wish I still had that, I have a few more places to look for it; I know I put it on hifi vhs many years ago. I still have a first gen of the 22nd, it is a really great sounding recording. I'll have to get them remastered and upped on the torrent site.

  • @emcderm Oh thats sad. However, a Video Recording from Toronto would be an awesome find.

I'll upload New York as soon as I Can on the Movement, and while this, you can try to Uploading your 22nd Recording :)

  • @emcderm Any videos from this tour would be VERY appreciated.

  • @tonirock131313 Just to guess right, you mean the Forest Hills Concert from 1982, i mean? ;)

  • Goosebumps. Still!!!!

  • Really wish they would've ended the In the Cage Medley with this during the Turn it On Again Tour...

  • @Bang0r Fat chance, he couldn't even perform I know what I like in the original key!

  • @semajttam I personally didnt noticed it, I only noticed Mama,No Son of Mine and Tonight³ being played in a lower key. But hey, Does it matter the key? IKWIL still sounds great in the 2007 Version, its one of my favourist versions, maybe also because of Daryls great Solo :-)

  • I REMEMBER DRIVING DOWN FROM MONTREAL TO THE GIANTS STADIUM IN 1987 MAY 30th WITH MY FRIEND STEPHANE DEPELTEAU...WE'VE MET A GUY AND HIS SISTER...THEY WERE FROM TOM'S RIVER N.J.,,,,,, WHAT A DAY.......AND AFTER THE SHOW...DIRECTION MONTREAL...WHAT A WEEKEND.

    SYLVAIN FROM MONTREAL

  • Was this at Forest Hills??

If so, me and my friends were there and amazed at the set list which of course included Supper's REady!! Great show....

  • @ehs3000 I Think You Mistook something... 1986 Genesis Didn't played @ Forest Hills, only at the Madison Square Garden.

But 1982 Genesis was at the Forest Hills with a Complete Suppers Ready and The Phoenix Horns played Paperlate and No Reply at All ;-)

I Could Upload it sometime, Now my PC has broken, could take some time to get it working again :)

  • for those who were there..1 of the great surprises and moments in concert histrory

  • @sharethemusic

Hi Andy. OK. They played MSG 5 nights in a row. I was there for nights 1 & 2. I jumped out of my shoes when they went into this. In 1987 we got sick when they went into Afterglow instead. Citrus Bowl & Orange Bowl. As if you didn't know this already.

  • @yesshows100

I WAS AT THE LAST 2 SHOWS ON THE THU AND FRI NIGHT AND WHAT GREAT SHOWS THEY WERE. I CAME OVER WITH THE UK FAN CLUB THEN IN THE NEW YEAR WENT TO FLORIDA FOR THE CITRUS BOWL AND ORANGE BOWL GIGS AND AS YOU SAY WE ALSO WERE BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED THEY DROPPED SUPPERS READY, APPARENTLY IT WAS KILLING HIS VOICE, HE DIDNT DO IT AGAIN, I WAS HOPEING THEY WOULD DO IT FOR US ON HOME SOIL BUT IT WASN,T TO BE. WEATHER WAS NICE IN FLORIDA THOUGH AND ALL THAT FREE BEER IN THE MICHLOEB TENT!LOL
