A stupid question but I have long hair too...about down to the middle of my back...I was thinking of cutting it off at the pony tail juss like that...but last time I did that my bangs were far longer than my back...how did you do your pony tail so that when it was cut it stayed all even/shoulder length? And it's also part of why the military cuts all your hair off - you have your identity (and your power?) invested in your hair, but they don't want you to have your own identity and power, they want to give you an identity and control (or direct, at least) your power. I don't know if there is something to it or if it is just powerfully symbolic, but it appears to work.
