  • Great video!!

  • it could be the brush too, my boar brush doesnt give the thickest

    lathers

  • Don't be afraid to use more product. It'll give you an excuse to get more, more often!

  • I usually do 2 pass shaves in the morning. For me, a one pass still leaves visible stubble, and since my hair is black, it's noticeable. Three passes (one WTG, one XTG, and one ATG) shaves way too close and I usually end up with ingrowns a few days later. So I just stick with 2 passes: one with the growth and another perpendicular to the growth.

    Great and Informative video, Geo!

  • this may be a stupid question, but does razor matter that much? or is it mainly about the blade?

im tired of dropping $30 every couple of months on blades for my cart. razor, so im considering a parker 90R as my first. can i expect it to knock down multi day growth like yours did here?

  • Would you recommend a downward pass if you were only going to do one pass?

  • What Geo is doing in this video is ok, but I find that going straight down doesn't give me a close enough shave. If you shave everyday and you're strapped for time, but want a closer shave, try going across the grain or diagonally. Don't try this, however, if you haven't shaved for a few days, because you will get razor burn and/or ingrown hairs.

  • When we buy stuff off you you should have it so it says gents instead of mr so I don't have to put it in there :)

  • when I shave in straight disposable blade razor or with my Edwin Jagger ED89 safety razor ((((( if i do NOT clean it immediately, it will rust from inside ))))) i always clean my razor wash it with hot water but if i leave it with out dry it it will rust. (it takes long time to spend in the bathroom. so where i go wrong ???? plz advice. many thanks

  • Can you do some videos on soaps and creams :)

  • would a slant bar have a similar effect? what about a progress or futur? I use a 34cc and have dark hair, so one pass downwards doesn't cut if (excuse the pun) if I want it to look smooth. Thanks geo.

  • another great video!

one problem I have with only 1 pass is it doesn't reduce my beard enough. It takes off the bulk, but there is too much stubble left behind, and the stubble can be be uneven in length too. 2 passes for me minimum.

  • @shavefan12

    Agreed Sir!

For me to be nice and BSS, I need to a couple of good passes.

This works pretty well when I'm in a hurry.

And the R41 makes quick work of it!

    Geo,.

  • @geofatboy hey Geoffrey, What is your top 3 DE raors?

  • Geo, I just read that you like Pearl jam. Im from Canada and just saw them for the 5th time in Hamilton. If you ever want to watch a good concert from way back when, look up Pink pop. A great, great concert at Pearl jams prime. just got a Parker 99r and love it. I think soon Im going to track down a Gillette fat boy at a antique store. Love your channel!!

  • @swiperrt

Thanks very much for sending that y way.... I'll definitely check it out.

Likely better than Eddie on the Uke :) Which really is not too bad!

    Canada ehhh?

I never was too big a fan of Rush until I rented their DVD entitled "Beyond The Lighted Stage" ....

What an awesome documentary on those boys from early youth until now!

    Respect!

I highly recommend it, if you haven't seen it yet!

Thanks for the Props on my channel!

    Geo.

  • Hey geo whats a good affordable straight razor I'm on a tight budget and I want a good razor without breaking the bank just figured u would be the guy to talk to

  • @warlord1633

Check out my Blog page, I just posted a few up there for you!

    Geo.

  • Geo, have you ever filled a spray bottle with hot water and sprayed it on your face before each pass? the plastic bottle retains heat pretty well and you just put it on the largest mist setting and water doesn't get all over the place and you direct the water where you want and its a lot easier to get you neck area too.

  • @dmannion81

Hmmmm, I have never tried that.....

Other than applying water with my hands, a shaving brush, or a hot towel has been my usual method until now....

    I think that's a great idea!

I might even try it with my shave tomorrow morning!

    Thanks for the tip.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy cool, let me know how it works for you. I found it works great for me I just kind of lean towards the sink and spray my face and neck and it's almost like the shower head so it works really good for applying hot water and really does a good job at lifting those whiskers.

  • A great posting well done.

  • @fordroad

    Thanks much.

    G.

  • Love your videos. I also get a quick shave with the ARKO stick shaving soap from turkey. It works great and lathers quick with a badger brush. Have you ever tried it? Maybe you can do one of your video trials with it.

  • @mpnc

Thanks for mentioning the ARKO Stick.... I've looked at it a few times and since you brought it up. I'll get some for ShaveNation dotcom and likely do a demo of it.

It's very reasonably priced, so that's an immediate plus that Gents will like.

    Geo.

  • Have you heard of Movember? its moustache growing charity event to raise awareness for cancers which effect men.

I bet you could grow one awesome stache!

  • @ReadingAngler

In my neck of the woods the kids celebrate "No Shave November" and "Manuary" (by not shaving)

Comes in handy because that extra facial hair surely helps keep the face warm when the snow flies and the temps dip below zero!

I just shaved off my facial hairs but may regrow the winter coat soon :)

    Geo.

  • hey geo, you know a lot about straight razors and i was wondering if a Fromm razor is a good razor.

  • you got the best shaving videos on youtube! keep up the good vids.

  • @swiperrt

    Ahhhh Thanks!

    You got it!

    Geo.

  • Geo, Excellent video! Now one of my favorites of yours. How about a video DEDICATED to daily shavers? Safety razors and the rest of the arsonal as well as techniques that ARE BETTER SUITED just TO DAILY SHAVERS. How 'bout it? Aren't most men pretty much, shaving on a daily basis? I've certainly had to take this into consideration on razor choice, cream preference and everything. Thanks !

  • @smithshaven

    Thanks Smith!

Long time no talk.... Hope all is well.

More daily shaving vids! Got it...

    Geo.

  • I think it was because I chacked and could not find it so yeah. But really any more then one seems to be overkill.

  • PS: Tonite I just watched the episode where Mikey Teutel had 8 months of growth shaved off his face!! Awesome!!

  • @78recordrepair

    Hah!

    That kid cracks me up!

Who performed the shave and what did they use?

    Too bad I missed it!

I'm going to try and find the rerun or view it online.

    Thanks for bringing it up.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy He went to the local barber, and the event was witnessed by Paul Jr. and his mother too. They used clippers and then a straight razor. Its season 6, episode 19 (Jeanette Lee Bike) and can be seen on Netflix

  • @78recordrepair

Thanks much for sending me the info to easily find it.

    Loved the show!

Didn't know Mikey played the piano.

    The Bike was awesome....

The only part that really sets me off is that she didn't have the first clue how to start the bike much less ride it!

I guess that bike is destined to sit in the corner of the garage and collect dust when it's not being shown....

Give me a bike like that and I'll ride it until the wheels fall off!!!!

Sr. put the fender on backwards... Lol!

    Geo.

  • @MrControl735

    Thanks Mr C!

    G.

  • suuuuuuuuuuuuppperrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    Thaaaaaaaaannnnnnkkkkkkkssssss!

  • My best time so far for a damned fine shave bordering on baby butt smooth is about 8 minutes. WTG and ATG with a Merkur slant or Gillette Slim set to 9 loaded with a Feather blade.

I do think that shaving is analogous to love-making, I get more enjoyment by taking my time. If you're in a hurry though, a hungry razor and two-passes is the way to fly.

    Thanks, Geo!

  • @SmokedTails

    Thanks!

    I agree with you...

It really is a wellness experience not to be rushed through to be thoroughly enjoyed.

But there are those times when you need to zip through it.

    Geo.

  • Hi Geo

Another great video! How close was that one pass? It looked pretty smooth on the video.

Recently reverted back to my beautiful 1958 British Aristocrat and, I tell you, they just don't make quality like that anymore!

Keep up the great videos, matey.

From the UK to the USA!

    Take care

    David

  • @itsamathematicsthing

    Hi David,

    Actually it was PDS......

    Pretty Damn Smooth.

Could have used a little buffing at the goatee lines to be super smooth.

Surely you feel like Royalty shaving with your Aristocrat!

Prince Charles has nothing on you....

Hope all is well with you and yours!

    Geo.

  • Nice video, man. I sure wish it was that easy for me. DE shaving is definitely the way to go, though, even if you bleed like a stuck pig like I do. :P

  • @kevsmith238

    Thanks!

Keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it.

I liked your movie Mallrats by the way!

    Lol, Just kidding.

    Geo.

  • Oh great video as alway

  • @blkwulff

    Thank You!

    G.

  • 84.00 not bad shave nation should do a video on shaving on the cheap under 90.00 total start up blade and shave soap from walmart cause every one got one will he take the challenge

  • @blkwulff

    That's a good idea!

I might take you up on it.

    Geo.

  • I've got sensitive skin and razor burn a thing of the past with with a fatboy safety razor and wilkinson blades at walmart and the shaving soap at walmart under 4.00 bucks at walmart probly 40.00 on eBay for a fatboy and around 40.00 for a good brush probly right though shave nation

  • @blkwulff

I think you're referring to the VDH shaving soap....

You can get it at Shave Nation for under $3 a puck.

    The stuff's not bad!

    Geo.

  • Seven minutes is my best time if I want to avoid nicks that is. I use my trusty EJ 89 or a gillette adjustable..set on number 5.

  • @colin186

    Nice Colin!

Like Dirty Harry said: "A Man's got to know his limitations!"

7 minutes to a BSS? Very respectable...

    Geo

  • When I'm in a hurry I found that I can do one pass against the grain with a single edge bic disposable. However I haven't tried this yet with a safety razor.

  • @78recordrepair

    Nice!

I've heard about the Bic Single Edge but have never tried one....

Sounds like a good razor for a video entitled shaving on a budget!

    Geo.

  • Hello! I have a Merkur razor and a Mühle. But I can not shave them so that small cuts would not be me! I only did it work for Gillette Mach3. This is the only razor with which I am able to shave without bleeding ...

  • @sigruna88

Find the razor that works best for you and stick with it!

It's all about achieving BSS with minimal to zero irritation!

    Geo.

  • Okay, and thanks!

  • I forgot the story that the cropping, or bleeding occurs when the peace is not my face again and get back to pulling the razor to my face to be smooth.

  • Safety razor shaving is great! Love it. I have done straight razor once and need to followup on that!

  • @CntrBrdr

I think you're preaching to the choir! :)

    I agree with you.

    Geo.

  • Thank You for another great video Geo.

  • @Urlte

    Thanks,

    My pleasure!

    Geo.

  • Hey Geo............which DE safety razor u would recommend for senstive skin ?

And it must give babby smooth skin.

  • Hey geo

which is best DE safety razor for a sensitive skin ? and it must give the baby smooth skin.

  • @sidjaguar

Check out the Merkur HD or the Edwin Jagger DE89, and Muhle 89R.

    Great all around Safety Razors.

Will show you the road to the BSS!

    Geo.

  • Thanks Geo!

I one time saw a razor that had I think 19 blades. To me very point less when just one can do that job great.I hope to soon buy a safety razor.

  • @residentevil926

19 Blades? I think that may have been a spoof on MadTV or something like that!

Even 5 blades is kind of ridiculous, don't you think?......

Agreed, anything more than one blade is overkill.....

    Geo.

  • I like how you get a thick lather. I think I use a tad bit more water than needed. Im using Proraso ultra sensitive shaving soap. An added question, what, in your opinion is a really good DE razor blade I can use with my razor?

  • @Mahaney82

Keep practicing mixing your lather until you can consistently achieve a consistency that you are happy with.

For my beard, Astra and Feather Blades do the job rather effectively.

Try a Blade Sampler pack and test-drive some different blades.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Thanks again for the help. My face has never been more smooth and less irritated sence I started using a safety razor. Just trying to fine tune my equipment and technique now.
