About the MP depletion when you use weapons, it was a change implemented by Working Designs, which brought the game to US. Seems that meter didn't make much sense to them, so they just decided to do it this way. The Japanese version doesn't suffer with this unbalanced gameplay and is way better, in my opinion.

  • The BGM in this stage sounds a lot like Michael Jackson's "Black Or White" and the music that begins at 2:54 sounds like a rock 'n' roll remixed version of the Partridge Family's opening song "C'Mon Get Happy"!

I love the music in this game!! :D

  • this is my favorite happening parts at 11:01 - 12:49 with weird sounds

  • ! YOU CAN KNOCK DOWN THE SET?

    That's awesome

  • this game is hard to play....

  • This is a really fun Saturn game, but on the Playstation it is an absolute chore.

  • Yeah, if you don't have MAX life, your MP depleats with every shot! Treasure uped the challenge more than the fun on the PS version. The two extra Bosses are NOT that great, not did they really add any funfactor that made loosing weapons worth it.

  • That was more Working Designs than Treasure. For some reason, localization companies tend to like to make Treasures games more difficult which I personally think is a bit nuts since they are already plenty challenging to me.

  • The PUBLISHER strikes again. Ever compare McDonald's Treasure Land for Sega Genesis to the Mega Drive? I forget which one does it, but if you get hit in one of them, you loose your weapon power! φ

  • Hmmmm...McDonald's Treasure Land. For when Big Mac's just aren't enough...

  • You guys are spoiled. How many other shooters have you played where weapons /didn't/ have some sort of ammo depletion mechanic?

  • Gradius, Contra, Bangai-o, Gunstar Heroes, Radiant Silvergun, Ikaruga, Sin&Punishment, all the best ones....EXCEPT "Alien Soldier" but at least when you switched weapons the unused guns recharged:) But it isn't the fact that the weapon depletes that bugs the hell out of us, it's the fact that 1:the game wasn't originally designed to be played that way 2 It added no fun to the experience. Alien Soldier is one of my favorite 2D shooters and it handled the Weapon Depletion fine.

  • Well, I personally thought it was a perfectly sensible addition. It may not "add fun to the experience", but at least now the whole spirit aspect of the game actually serves a purpose. Besides, the game isn't all that challenging when you can just blow through it all with Grattoni, and personally, I never really thought the game was all /that/ challenging to begin with, but that's just me. Either way, the only WD addition that didn't sit well with me were the excessive weapon costs.

  • Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the price inflation.Decisions to change things like that just seem like an hohum way to pump up difficulty.I sense we may differ in opinion that convenience outways challenge as a priority in a good game, but consider McDonalds Treasure 4 Genesis:in the Japanese version, you take a hit and loose a powerup, while in the English version you just loose a chunk of life.Japan version's novelty value is ruined because when letting friends play, the difficulty chokes fun.

  • @stringanime don't forget mischief makers, and dynamite headdy where it was owned by treasure like silhouette mirage, guardian heroes, and gunstar heroes ^_^

  • i love games like these. good old arcade action.

  • The Arcade wishes it had games like this. That's TREASURE for ya, ARCADE gaming wherever they go.

  • Great game. it is nice to see it here...The Saturn one was mechanically superior to the PS1's version

  • Graphically superior too.

  • Oh yah I remember because of the sega's proccessor it had reflection FX and such that Got cut out of the PS version. Good call, now days because of PS3's graghics I forget that they started out not doing so hot in that department. ha.

  • Every gen, there's a console that is on par with or better than a Sony system in some way. They never have the best hardware unequivocally.

PS1 was a middle ground between Saturn and N64. PS2 was just plain lesser compared to the Gamecube and Xbox. The Xbox 360 outperforms the PS3 in many cases.

PS1 was clearly superior at polygon processing, while Saturn creamed 'em in 2- sprite handling hands down. Exceptions in those cases, while very rare, came down to individual developer efforts.

  • I don't know about "Xbox 360 outperforms the PS3" because I have a Wii because I wanted something different, and TREASURE has two titles lined up...But as for Saturn, it had dual processors and much faster than PS1. I believe it was an anti-aliasing issue and a tough programing system that hindered it mostly. I remember seeing an article back then about how annoyed developers were about SEGA's 32-bit Environment however I cannot sight this, so I can only assume it is true. Also EA leaving SEGA...
