I think life is pretty simple. Socialism in its extreme form can't work. Just like free market capitalism can't work in its extreme form. What people really want is a good life with the motivation to go to work. Doing it just for profit or for squat isn't motivating.
@PatzerKing That was the point of the anecdote. To point out how people critisise and praise the book without having read it. Or at the very least understood it.
@Malthus0 That is precisely the point of his comment. I watched it twice and I could understand him quite well but the audio isn't the best I have ever heard. Howevver it is amazing to hear this great man and his remarkable ideas in any event.
the audio quality is horrible, and hayak has an accent that makes it tough to understand what he is saying, i think adding subtitles to this video would be an excellent idea, if you have the original footage and have the ability to add subtitles please consider doing it
A moneyless, classless, stateless communities of humanity expressing our freedom in creative harmonious cooperation for a world that is so POTENTIALLY AND ACTUALLY nourishing. Capitalism in any form, Statist or Corporatist is the denial of our common humanity in a politically manipulated, tyrannical armed MARKET SYSYTEM of artificial scarcity that is designed to perpetuate the enslavement of immense humanity for material interest of the criminal ruling elite.
ahah. His accent certainly doesn't make it any easier. But some distortion is indeed apparent in this video as opposite to the one (the original one?) hosted over vimeo.
Hayek is true on historical precedent. Argentina was one of the richest countries in the world and its back ground did not protect itself from Peronist Socialism..
@davidmesaaz Mises and Rothbard spent the bulk of their careers making substantive contributions to economics, while Hayek turned almost entirely to philosophy, law, and intellectual history after the 1930's. In consequence, there is simply much more to say about the economics of Mises and Rothbard than about the economics of Hayek.
ugh the audio on this is horrible, you can barely understand what they are saying

@austenbosten Same thing with me man. I use to laugh at Hayek and other libertarians similar to him but now I've grown to admire Hayek in particular.

How can he know a book is dreadful if he hasn't read it. But, maybe I didn't hear him correctly.

Yes, the sound has seriously deteriorated in this video copy. Google the original by querying 'hayek interview'.
