Its so cool ive been there before unfortuantly i got nabbed by security but they let me go it sucks that the town dosent wanna make it into a tourist attraction or something they would make a lot of money.

They should clean it up a bit and keep it preserved to the best they can, it doesn't have to be immaculate but enough to keep the place good. That right there would save half that money and still be cost efficient.

We got ticketed, but not arrested. I played dumb when we got caught like we just happened to wonder ontot the land after passing it on the way somewhere else. When in fact we had been planning it for weeks. The security guard was very nice and wowed us with stories of how, "If you go in there you will get cancer and die immediatley." The state trooper that showed up was a bit more hard nosed, but a good guy. If your going to go, be careful! The security is doing it's job.

there is no way our state will spend money fixing that hospital up, s much as i wish they would. It was once a beautiful place. lots of land and amazing structures, but our state rather spend its money on useless things. these buildings are pretty much destroyed internally.

I'm glad so many people were able to evade security and go inside; I haven't the nerve to do it, but I love to see what remains. It's all going to waste and there are so many cool things to see. They waste time guarding it when people just want to check it out and explore!

on 5/5/10 @ 9pm it will be on Ghost Hunters on SyFi they just finished taping a few weeks ago. I have no high hopes since its one of the worst shows they could have sent in but it is the norwich state hospital

14 years ago when it closed I thought the state should have turned it over to the university of Connecticut, seeing this only makes it so much more obvious it should have been done.

So much more space here then Avery point and so much going to waste. Avery point should have been given to the Coast Guard and the house made into a museum. UConn should have relocated the regional campus here.

Nice Vid! Went last summer and got so busted! The security guards are constantly driving around. We went up the side, long freakin walk, and waited a half hour in the bushes waiting to see if there was any sign of life. We made a dash for the closest building, but took too long on an exterior shot and got nabbed. State Cop read us the riot act and ticketed us. We were unable to find any tunnels because everything by the river is sealed up.

This is a great video. My grandma used to go there when my dad was a little kid so I have an interest in the hospital. I heard it was 1 of 10 most haunted places in America I am hoping they either did a ghost hunting show or are going to make one before they tear this place down if they do tear it down that is.

And yes... they sit at the access rd entrance too. I went there Sat May 14, pretty much the last day u could go cuz norwich now bought it back. What they are doing with it yet... dont kno

there are usually only two guards. they're usually driving around back and not ever blocking entrances. if you stay on the property in plain sight than yes, they'll see you.

There WAS only 2 guards on for the night shift. i applied 2 get a job there as a security guard. now that the town bought it back they now have state police there as well as the regular security guards. they have a mix of state cop cars and the security SUV's at all the entrances. i tried goin back last week

The Norwich State Hospital campus is beautiful. The buildings are magnificent relics of a forgotten time in American History. It is a Kirkbride site, and is historically significant. I was in there years ago, before all the security, and before it was completely overgrown. Since some idiots set a fire there, security is now all over the place. If you go, sneak in the back down the railroad tracks and keep out of sight. Also, do everyone a favor and NO VANDALISM.

Id prob. go to Norwich over a kirkbride (the ones that still exist) prob any day. The Kirkbrides are cool and all but Norwich is so friggen huge. Plus the architecture changes depending on which poart you are in . I hope its there for a long time.

it's be nice if they turned the hospital buildiings into a museum of sorts, like the eastern state penn in PA. But it's a black spot on the history of CT that a lot of people don't want as part of our lasting history. It probably would have been torn down a long time ago if the Town of Preston could have.

How about making it a park or museum or something that everyone can enjoy, instead of a crime-infested, drug-ridden nest for the hand-out crowd. Besides, that will only transplant dangerous thugs from Hartford, Bridgeport, and New London to the relatively serene Preston. If you want a real solution, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is a good model for reclamation of American Kirkbride sites like Norwich.

Ive never been to Norwich State Hospital. But i have gone to its sister hospital, Fairfield Hills. They want to take it down to make baseball fields. I think its ridiculous because its really beautiful.

I love this video, I do. I live in Norwich and have gone in SO MANY times, sneaking past the security guards, wearing all black at night and going into the main building. i have been through this place many times driving down route 12, it's weird the first time i drove through here in 2000 i was just transfixed by the place. northeastern, ct has lots of freaky stuff like this. there is a really cool abandoned mill in north grosvenordale (also on rte 12.) it may have been torn down by now. moosup ct and balouville are also a gas!

Last time i went in it there was a students desk, right next to an incenerator, and i saw a bat so i hauled asse outta there... all together beautiful (campus) of abandoned buildings, should also include the "mini" town right next to the hospital, its abandoned aswhell, i heard its where all the doctors that worked for the ward lived there...
