how can you attempt to make a neutrl documentary if you're not even translating foreign people's testimonies? I grew up in an opus dei school and can claim most of this is extremely distorted.
The Opus Dei is a totally harmless conservative Catholic movement, better be worried of the Camino Neo Catechumenale of mr. Francisco "Kiko" Arguello. The camino is the dangerous sect in the church, with weird customs and werid ideas.
This documentary is clearly slanted so when watching be mindful of that. Also, notice how the members of Opus Dei who they interview are totally open and honest. How could they be secretive when they do not deny but confirm and give context and understanding to their practices. Even an editor with an agenda can not edit out the fact that these people love Christ and are open to discuss and explain their practices -- even the controversial ones.
@macnos I'm guessing this is a critical view of Opus Dei. If it were balanced, you'd see all the good things that Opus Dei do which is NICE but most, if not all, religious groups share that aspect.

@davidchilli It really is not a mistake once you take the veil of superstition off. The existence of heaven and the judeoxian god is supertitious baloney; the church gives respectability to claims of sainthood by making up they're just "declaring" what god has done. Otherwise people raised in catholic environments would begin to understand that it's all make believe.
For all the people asking what does it says in spanish, it really isn't anything different to what the narrator in english says just before; a man saying how he believes he was cured of cancer by praying to the founder of the Opus Dei, etc.
I criticize this video because on no less than 2 occasions, the interviewer asks a question in English, and it is responded to in another language. And IT ISNT TRANSLATED.
Does this video maker assume that everyone watching this speaks both English and Spainish?? I thought this was for English speaking viewers
This holynization of Escrivá, even as everybody knows he was the founder of Opus Dei, has made more damage to the church than all the bad examples of bad priests and corruption in the Church, for the same reason than the sins of flesh are mor forgivable than the sin of pride, soberbia. Poor Catholic Church.
opus dei is the chistian fascist action party. seach opus dei fascism. this is the brain of the christian version of the political islamofasist faction in arabia.
In addition the notion that Opus Dei is an arch-conservative organization is completely wrong given that it is the official doctrine of the Church and God's commandment as recorded in scripture that marriage is between 1 MAN and 1 WOMEN. Last but not least, the myth that women are treated as inferior is completely fictional. My aunt is an Opus Dei member and she's the boss of the house ordering my 'poor' uncle around! LOL
This video jumps to conclusion that Opus Dei is an evil organization with an intention to control the Catholic Church... Do remember that Opus Dei is a small religious organization when compared with the Society of Jesus. Furthermore the doctrine of sanctifying oneself through work is good, in the sense that we treat our occupation or job as an act of praising God.. In doing so, we pour in soul and effort to do a good work, not a shabby one.
hmmm...perhaps the "privacy" is a way of coaxing people into wanting to learn more...to want to become members of something that is..."special" something that is secret...something that makes one feel a part of a select group of "great" people..."God's people.." hmmm...interesting...
I'm not a Biblical scholar by a long shot but this Opus Dei 'saint' and his ministry are very much like that of Simon Magus/Peter and his. Except no one said to him "get thee behind me" etc.etc. except the two who resigned at the saint factory Does anyone know what the Jesuits view on these lot is? because it would be interesting to hear their view on these usurpers who would like to have as much influence as them in the Vatican. His statues are bigger than Jesus' in church, what hypocrisy. lol
Sr. Mora-Figueroa's father was not "an admiral in Fraco's navy", he was a merchant sailor who joined the National Movement as more than half of Spain did after having lived through five years of a criminal republican régime, against which socialist PSOE organised an illegal armed coup in 1934. One half of the country rose in 1936 against a régime that was sistematically massacrating its members.
The legitimate Republican government was illegally overthrown, both halves rose up, just one side was Fascist and had military support and gave permission to the Nazis to bomb unarmed civilian towns though.
To repeat well-known one-sided propaganda is no proof of knowledge of that period of Spanish history.
No regime that allows crimes against all human rights can be considered legitimate. The parties of the popular front refused to accept the CEDA victory of 1933 and ever since the proclamation of the II Republic, were preparing their own coup with backing of Stalin's communist Russia.
I do not support Stalins half witted attempts at muscling in, nor the Communists take over of the republican side or their murder of 100's of priests, whatever side they supported. The crimes against humanity are not "one sided propaganda", and the debate in Spain at the moment about the mass graves being opened and its occupants being identified will attest to that. I don't get my world view from you tube
We still have the old Inquisition, they just changed the name (something like 'the congregation for the protection of the faith'), they are the ones who update and publish the list of forbidden books.
This "investigation" is evrything but serious. 1st of all, calling it a sect shows a clear lack of knowledge of what a sect is & therefore is an insult to those who suffer the consequences of being captured by a sect. 2nd, there is no "ultraconservative brand of christianity". There is just one Catholic teaching, written down in the Catechism and tradition. This is a basic premise of what catholism is. Not having that clear invalidates the subsequent statements of this so-called "invstigation".
@MalMinorismo Kudos to journeymanpics for this awesome doc. on the Opus Dei.
1. You yourself are prejudiced to think only because OD operates within vatican favor it's not a sect. 2. You show a clear lack of knowledge regarding the terms "conservatism" and "liberalism". Henceforth, your comment is just hateful fundie baloney. :P
Oh no, here comes Opus Dei.... we're doomed because they.... they, they, they they.... wait, I'll think of it... um.... theeeeeeeeeyyyyy... Well for one, they're Catholic.
Must be something in that movement when world tries to fight it so hard.
Calling Opus Dei a sect is very much misleading, since it seem to imply distance from the Catholic Church, which is not the case with Opus Dei (or Charismatic movement, etc). Late pope John Paul II spoke kindly about it. If we are to respect the meaning of sect as generally viewed (disasociated, contrary, or heretical), Opus Dei is not one.
That he supported a fascist dictator openly or passively should be enough surely? Please read about Franco's many crimes against humanity and then ask yourself if you are dealing with a legitimate organisation or a criminal one hiding behind a human face.
The price of fish being that the infidel which Franco vanquished were not humans to begin with, so how is it possible to commit "crimes against humanity" when he only smashed communists and anarchists? They deserved it after what they did to the nuns, priests, churches and random lay people.
What a deeply informed and well thought out argument, and jack booted fascists who attacked unarmed women and children are a shining example of modern civilised humanity in your eyes I suppose?
Franco wore jackboots because he was a military general, not a fascist. Franco was a conservative who gave it to the reds, hard. If only we had masculine, unabashed, heroic defenders of civilisation like that around today. I'd love to have seen the look on Stalin's face when he found out his international communist terrorist arm in Spain had been crushed and his agents were been frog marched into detention camps.
Your trying to say Franco's regime was not a fascist one? lol
"Heroic defenders of civilisation"? there was nothing civilised about giving permission to the Condor legion to bomb unarmed civilian towns just to try out bombing methods for a start.
"Frog marched into detention camps" very civilised.
"Masculine, unabashed, heroic defenders...", You fascists just can't help yourselves from drifting back into homo-erotic dreams at any given opportunity, I'm not being homophobic towards you I just think that politics and sex are not always the best of 'bed fellows' (pardon the pun). Ultimately I doubt scumbag Stalin was really that bothered by Spain though, he had Hitler and the Japanese to worry about.
"Infidel", lol. Its no wonder fascism and its attendant dogmas all fall like the rotten fruit that they are.
You should go and live in north Korea, they have lots of men in shiny boots and uniforms who kill people for wanting to live freely and alone in peace.
China is a red Fascist country, you would like it there, it has all the state violence you could want.

Both American liberals and conservatives (Protestant who allied with them but still criticized them) strongly hate them.
The youth and the educated strongly detest them in former Catholic countries.
