When Eisenhower was President the highest tax bracket was at 92%. When Nixon was president the highest bracket was still 71% and everyone knows what communists they were. To end such a huge recession, major spending is needed. That is what fixed the depression. Even Roosevelt didn't spend enough. The depression didn't end until the massive spending on WWII went into effect. There are no new entitlement programs. National health care is necessary.

Isn't Obamas stimulus plan, the same as passing a law that requires every U,S citizen to buy a new car every 3 yrs. My thoughts on the Stimulus plan is simple, You can't create money from nothing, and this is what is happening. We are $1 Trillion dollars in debt and yet we are Spending $ 1 Trillion to get us out of it. ?... how does that work? and plus we will be spending somewhere around $1 trillion a year for the next ten years. This stimulus plan comes with Stipulations that many states are not agreeing with, hence why many states have not accepted the money. So in short it sucks.
I told Obama and my Rep and two Senators how to fix this problem. Cut spending. There is at least 1 trillion of garbage spending in the 3 trillion budget that Obama has put forward. We could start by removing all spending contained in the 9,000 earmarks that are in this budget that Obama pledged would contain no earmarks.

Monies made available under this plan are CONDITIONAL. If a state accepts funds then it MUST alter its employment laws in accordance with federal mandates PERMANENTLY. WW2 example you said is perfect. It brought us out of the Great Depression, yet afterward another one crept up because we were pouring money into paying off debt, rather than for the good of the economy.
When Reagan took office, there was a recession. Why? Because too much money was being spent during WW2.

It stayed the same because the federal government counted the 50,000 census workers as full-time jobs. Anyone with common sense knows the administration is using fuzzy math.
Actual unemployment (under employed) is between 15 % to 20 %. This doesn't count those that have completely given up.
Also, the stimulus was designed to win votes. Only 1/3 of it has been spent. The bulk will be spent in the months right before the election.
Also, Obama said his stimulus would keep it under 8 %.

TARP is what saved the financial sector. Obama's stimulus didn't do anything he proclaimed it would. Did it keep unemployment below 8 %? NOPE. Did it create (not save) 3.5 million new jobs? NOPE.

When Eisenhower was President the highest tax bracket was at 92%. When Nixon was president the highest bracket was still 71% and everyone knows what communists they were. And there were still plenty of rich people. What we have now is tax too low for the middle class to sustain itself over the long term. Mayabe you're a little slow. If it were'nt for the Obama Stimulus package we would nearly all be unemployed. The Bush recession would have become a depression. To end such a huge recession, major spending is needed. That is what fixed the depression. Even Roosevelt didn't spend enough. The depression didn't end until the massive spending on WWII went into effect. There are no new entitlement programs. National health care is necessary.

Hey gop, the recession was brought on by the Bush administration ignoring wall street regulations. OOOOOOPPPPSSS! It was the republican party that wanted less regulation.
Spending: Bush instigated two wars without one penny of funding, pushed through the pharmacy bill without one penny of funding.
We are in a recession and without the stimulus it would have been a depression. If McCain had won we would be in a depression we might never recover from.

1. Al Qaeda came into IRaq "AFTER" we invaded not before. Less than 2000. Most of the problems were do to infighting between nationalist Sunnie and Shiite.

Are you talking about Afghanistan? Obama plan is to escalate the troops which I totally disagree with even though Afghanistan was the real war on terrorism. However, Bush mishandled that puppy so badly, troops undermanned because he sent most to Iraq that the Al Qaeda and Taliban(parties friendly to them) have control of large areas of Afghanistan and Pakistan. I don't envy Obama's position at all. I think we should cut our losses.

Isn't Obamas stimulus plan, the same as passing a law that requires every U,S citizen to buy a new car every 3 yrs. Democrats want more spending. Every stimulus bill dollar spent equates to $1.50 in return stimulated dollars in the economy. Major draw back is it takes longer. Republicans argue for more tax cuts. My thoughts on the Stimulus plan is simple, You can't create money from nothing, and this is what is happening. We are $1 Trillion dollars in debt and yet we are Spending $ 1 Trillion to get us out of it. ?... how does that work? and plus we will be spending somewhere around $1 trillion a year for the next ten years. This stimulus plan comes with Stipulations that many states are not agreeing with, hence why many states have not accepted the money. So in short it sucks.

I told Obama and my Rep and two Senators how to fix this problem. Cut spending. There is at least 1 trillion of garbage spending in the 3 trillion budget that Obama has put forward. We could start by removing all spending contained in the 9,000 earmarks that are in this budget that Obama pledged would contain no earmarks.

Monies made available under this plan are CONDITIONAL. If a state accepts funds then it MUST alter its employment laws in accordance with federal mandates PERMANENTLY. Even though the money is given over a three year period, the changes in the laws are FOREVER. Only NOW are governors starting to realize this. Talk about predatory lending practices! Also, Repubs are not against helping the poor. But where is Obama gonna get all this money? Is he going to print it and create a HUGE inflation? Or ishe gonna borrow it which the younger generation will have to pay for? this is very socialistic. If businesses are gonna be using wasteful spending, why should we give them money to begin with?

i have an idea of how we could cut some of the funding for the current bailout/stimulus...all the senators and congressmen/women who refuse to support it could simply tell the president to subtract any amount that may have been slotted to go to their state. that should take the total down to a financial amount that would be more acceptable to all!!

If this is the Dems time to rule, then why the driving desire for bipartisanship? Why not just vote the way your party wants to go and live with the fallout? Under Bush, there were no restrictions placed on the money & even banks not in distress were required to accept some portion of the bailout.
There were no salary ceilings instituted for remaining chief officers of the companies that extended their beggars cup .
There was no discussuion concerning BONUSES. No cap on bonuses for highly paid ceo's & begging the taxpayer, myself amongst them, for our funding.
Yet, the Repubs fight & scratch aid to the most needy in the U.S..
