love jim reeves. as a young teenager after a date, i would listen to jin reeves on the way home. a friend of mine also. will never forget those days and i am 60 now.
Oh what a beautiful voice God gave to Jim. I started listening to him on the radio as a child as he grew in popularity and could only dream of being gifted with such a voice of silk! So many good memories listening to him with my parents going down the highway.
I hope to hear his wonderful voice again someday..and it could be soon.
Unbeatable performer.Such a Perfectionist. The world today has drifted far far away from this perfection. No body there to bridge this gap.Oh Jim you could have stayed a little longer.Missing You!
I have heard it said that Jim was difficult to work with. Well "Duhhh." From what I understand of the man, he demanded (of himself) that he provide the best vocal presentation of every song that he sang. No wonder that he expected the same of all the others involved in the production. HOLD THE STANDARD HIGH. So even if you miss the mark a bit, you still have done something wonderful.
Few know that Jim Reeves was fanatic in his looking for pur sound. He buyed the best recording equicment wish was vailable that time. He experimented several times with each song/melody for to find the best way each melody should be singed, he was a perfectionist. And they who worked with him, somtimes nearly get mad of this side of him.
Thank you so much for the pure music of Jim Reeves. Since my younger days in the 60's I would simply sing along to all of Jim's beautiful songs. I have almost all of Jim Reeves CD. I especially like his Christmas album which is by far the best and most played CD during Christmas. Simply sentimental.
redhot: My mom and dad were all big fans of Jim Reeves. I really like what you wrote. It reminds me of when I was a young boy, we would all get dressed up in our best for church every Sunday. I've got a special place in my memories for his music. My mom and her many sisters would always play his records.
Thank you for your very kind comments and for sharing your childhood memories. I think Jim Reeves voice was very special because i believe that once you hear his velvet voice, you simply never forget and it stays with you forever.
I too used to listen to Jim Reeves when I was a boy in the 60's. The CW stations here in the South would play Reeves' music for years after his death. There has really been no one to replace him in Country and Western music, nor is there likely to be. Thank you for posting this.
There have been several singers who have been Jim Reeves "sound-alikes", such as Swedish singer, the late Gunnar Wicklund, and Norwegian singer Arne Benoni whom even Leo Jackson said sounded so much like Jim that it was like standing next to him again. Of course: Only Jim Reeves knew how to be Jim Reeves - everyone else are merely copycats that can talk the talk, but not walk the walk ;)
for twenty years after Jim's death, he had a song on the charts. I don't think that feat has been topped by any singer, nor do I think it ever will be.
when dad was alive, every Christmas the decorations would be up, he would have Christmas lights going around the room ,the Christmas tree would be decorated with baubles tinsel and lights. Dad would then switch of the main room light and would just have the Christmas lights on and then he would play his Jim Reeves Christmas Album - SIMPLY MAGIC
Dear Red, you know that's what my mother would do. I remember this so well and mom would sing the songs..any and all that were Christmas and not even related to Christmas....mom has since passed in 2001 and the songs I miss hearing her sing but are back in my heart when i hear jim sing... thanks for the postings.
Its just AMAZINGGG ... MY dad was such a great fan of him that he named me Allan REEVES !!!
Im so privileged to have his name as mine and to live in this period of time ! :) And when christmas comes, no songs can be heard in my house other than Jim Reeves' s !
I agree,,Jim Reeves..1 and only, have a velvet voice, nobody can immitate him..1&only,and im glad my dad introduce it to me during my childhood,i grew up with his son .that everyday my dad ply all his song, before he goes to work.and after his work..weekend while doing garden, and other house repair he ply it too.. Now im 50..my loving hubby john from UK,he ply his son too..... Im so glad7lucky the 2men of my hearth, love the son of JIm.. And i guess.Redhotmountie..we nearly same age
Jim died when I was three months old, but my parents have his albums, and I grew up listening to his wonderful music. What a clear, mellow, and soothing voice! Great childhood memories.
How Much Better can this Man Get? I Regard Jim are the Greatest Singer of all time. He is my Favorate and his Voice and everyone of his song's are just Timeless.
I totally agree,if i live to be a 100 i will never hear a voice like his again, his type of voice only comes along 'once in a lifetime'and i'm privileged it was in my lifetime.
I am almost 53 years old and grew up with Jim Reeves music. My mom had all his albums. I agree time does stand still when you listen to him. There is just something about his voice that draws you in
Jim Reeves was also a part of my childhood and young adult life. He was my Dad's favourite singer and i can honestly say that if i live to be 100, i will never hear a voice such as his again. A once in lifetime voice and how glad i am that it was in my lifetime.
I had my first record with Jim when I was 7, and a normal swedish 7 y.o. boy for sure didn't listen to Jim Reeves. I started to buy his records and still have them. Even if I didn't understand the words, his voice and the melodies reached in to my heart - and still do. As a grown up I've formed my own studio at home and I've recorded several of his songs just for fun along with my work as a songwriter.
Nice to watch and listen vids'with a great performer.
I also grew up listing to Jim Reeves From my Dad.What greater gift can a person give to us. His music will always be with us. This is truely country music. Thank you.
does anyone have a clip (audio or video) of him singing "Across the bridge, there's no more sorrow"? I remember listening to it more than 20 years ago in singing class on my singin' teacher's casette player and I was truly touched by the song.
Not only was there a LOT of jim reeves music in my childhood, I still listen to Jims music a lot today. It helps calm my mood after a really bad day and my kids even have learned to like the smooth crooning voice he used especially during the late 50s and 60s. Other singers are as good as he was BUT not in the same way!
We always described Jim's voice as if he just opened his mouth and a victrola was playing so smooth! Gosh..we love your music Jim and Voice..widh you could have been with us longer!
I totally agree, such a truly wonderful voice and how sad he couldn't have been with us longer, it does seem though that some of the great C&W singers died relatively young, like Patsy Cline and Hank Williams to name just a few.
Thankyou redhotmountie, this is just awesome.YOVE DONE A LOVELY WORK.This is the voice that is born once in a millenium. He is ever living in the hearts of the people .
