Oh what a beautiful voice God gave to Jim. I started listening to him on the radio as a child as he grew in popularity and could only dream of being gifted with such a voice of silk! So many good memories listening to him with my parents going down the highway.

I hope to hear his wonderful voice again someday..and it could be soon.

I have heard it said that Jim was difficult to work with. Well "Duhhh." From what I understand of the man, he demanded (of himself) that he provide the best vocal presentation of every song that he sang. No wonder that he expected the same of all the others involved in the production. HOLD THE STANDARD HIGH. So even if you miss the mark a bit, you still have done something wonderful.

Few know that Jim Reeves was fanatic in his looking for pur sound. He buyed the best recording equicment wish was vailable that time. He experimented several times with each song/melody for to find the best way each melody should be singed, he was a perfectionist. And they who worked with him, somtimes nearly get mad of this side of him.

He have given us some of the best songs ever.

Thank you so much for the pure music of Jim Reeves. Since my younger days in the 60's I would simply sing along to all of Jim's beautiful songs. I have almost all of Jim Reeves CD. I especially like his Christmas album which is by far the best and most played CD during Christmas. Simply sentimental.

redhot: My mom and dad were all big fans of Jim Reeves. I really like what you wrote. It reminds me of when I was a young boy, we would all get dressed up in our best for church every Sunday. I've got a special place in my memories for his music. My mom and her many sisters would always play his records.

I too used to listen to Jim Reeves when I was a boy in the 60's. The CW stations here in the South would play Reeves' music for years after his death. There has really been no one to replace him in Country and Western music, nor is there likely to be. Thank you for posting this.

There have been several singers who have been Jim Reeves "sound-alikes", such as Swedish singer, the late Gunnar Wicklund, and Norwegian singer Arne Benoni whom even Leo Jackson said sounded so much like Jim that it was like standing next to him again. Of course: Only Jim Reeves knew how to be Jim Reeves - everyone else are merely copycats that can talk the talk, but not walk the walk ;)

when dad was alive, every Christmas the decorations would be up, he would have Christmas lights going around the room ,the Christmas tree would be decorated with baubles tinsel and lights. Dad would then switch of the main room light and would just have the Christmas lights on and then he would play his Jim Reeves Christmas Album - SIMPLY MAGIC

Dear Red, you know that's what my mother would do. I remember this so well and mom would sing the songs..any and all that were Christmas and not even related to Christmas....mom has since passed in 2001 and the songs I miss hearing her sing but are back in my heart when i hear jim sing... thanks for the postings.

I agree,,Jim Reeves..1 and only,have a velvet voice,nobody can immitate him..1&only,and im glad my dad introduce it to me during my childhood,i grew up with his son .that everyday my dad ply all his song,before he goes to work.and after his work..weekend while doing garden,and other house repair he ply it too.. Jim Reeves was also a part of my childhood and young adult life. He was my Dad's favourite singer and i can honestly say that if i live to be 100, i will never hear a voice such as his again. A once in lifetime voice and how glad i am that it was in my lifetime.

I had my first record with Jim when I was 7, and a normal swedish 7 y.o. boy for sure didn't listen to Jim Reeves. I started to buy his records and still have them. Even if I didn't understand the words, his voice and the melodies reached in to my heart - and still do. As a grown up I've formed my own studio at home and I've recorded several of his songs just for fun along with my work as a songwriter.

Not only was there a LOT of jim reeves music in my childhood, I still listen to Jims music a lot today. It helps calm my mood after a really bad day and my kids even have learned to like the smooth crooning voice he used especially during the late 50s and 60s. Other singers are as good as he was BUT not in the same way!
