  • I still have this vhs tape! lol Love every minute of it.

  • this video is dated 1993 to go with his ten year anniversary tour.

  • im not a christian but i love michael w. smiths talent

  • nice song =)

  • alligator at 1:35

  • I totally love his voice! :)

  • I miss old school MWS. I have yet to find a good upbeat song since his Live the Life album. Now he is mostly worship music. Don't get me wrong, worship music has its place. I am just looking for something I can rock out to.

  • Who is the lead guitarist on this tour?

  • @SJCDPWorship isn't he Tony Palacios?

  • That Korg he is playing is classic

  • i'd give it to him in the rear!

  • Totally! The hair, the time and the music!

  • his voice may have matured but it still sucks... he should write the songs and let someone else sing them

  • @ConflictedAngel How would i know you had a major drug problem i don't know you, your not clever. I know people that have been full blown heroin addicts and quit so dont start with me buddy im just stating facts.

  • anyone know he had a huge drug problem when he wrote alot of his songs some include lsd marijuana cocaine

  • @keithryan1025 wow i never no that

    that a trip!!!!

  • Prais the Lord for the life og MW Smith. May God richly bless him to be continually used in Hisvineyard. I love his every single song. God bless...

  • I loved Smitty since I was 6 and I'm 28 now and his voice has changed and I never noticed until this video. But, I still love it

  • @heddey2000 A decade and a half will do that to your voice...and other things. Although - I actually think his voice sounds better now.

  • asta e smith ..... mama ce tanar era :))..... imi place cantecu mult:) ai idee cati ani avea aici smith ?

  • O I love this song!

  • i love this song

  • this is such a great song!

  • I was 20 when this came out... to hear it again put the good chills in my body.. such an awesome talent... Thank God for him. Now he leads millions into worship and Gods presence. The maturity of his true purpose.

  • I LOVE HIM ! wasnt even alvin when this song was taped ,, but its been my favorite since i can even remeber (:

  • aWESOME

  • Falls more under the inspirational category.

  • Cheesy early 90's, but brings back some great memories. MW Smith has always been great to watch through the years. His voice has matured and his worship style as well. Praise the Lord!

  • @SunySher - "Cheesy early 90's" I heard that the 80s came to Canada in the 90s, so the date of this video is unknown unless the author clarifies.

  • @NameCallingIsWeak The video came out in 1993. 1993 was a split between the 80s and 90s.

  • That KORG is beast.

  • Yeah!! How many albums have those sounds on them-lol Gotta love it.

  • This was one of the first "christian" songs I'd ever heard, and it's still one of my favs :)

  • such an awesome message , to go west and let the evil go east, like go away from sin. woo hoo u sing it brother

  • Ha, is this where anti-flag got "go west" from?

  • I'm sorry but does anyone else feel like he is lip-synching?

  • Hahaha...sure he is...and so is the rest of the band. I guess the brass isn't playing either...when MWS is live...he is live.

  • At this time live bands were still good and professonal unlike alot of what we have today.

  • Michael just has talent from God!

  • he's not.

  • I love micheal w.smith~~~the best!

  • junior high? that's a school! you can't mix Christianity and school, you might offend a Jew.

  • Or an Arab or Athiest. But nobody cares if a Christian is offended. We're told just to stand there and take it.

Such a sad state of affairs, when you tell God to leave you alone... and still want to receieve His Blessings, all at the same time.

  • 0:49 - "I don't listen to most of the words; I listen more to the music part of it"

That's a strange comment to include in the final edit . . .

  • that guy has balls

  • so do most

  • Talk about mixed feeling. The faith aspect aside, geez do I feel old (27), was this music really popular or just a guilty pleasure like it is for me now? and on a positive note, it's these video clips that make my childhood in hindsight seem half as bad as I thought it was. There's something about the soundtrack to a person's life....

  • While he probably based this on his own interpretation of scripture (and it's a good song), the phrase "Go West, young man!" was first used in the 19th century by American expansionists to justify "Manifest Destiny" - the idea that it was America's divine right to take control of the West.

  • Psalm 103:12 (New International Version)

as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

If I am not Mistaken, this is the Scriptual bases for this song. Hope it helps

  • He is goodlooking, has good music, and has a good message.

  • I really do love him and his music.

  • GOOD LOOKING man!

  • go west young man. let the evil goes east?

lol why is the west better than the evil east???

  • I know rite? lol

Im guessing he means it in the way of the old frontier. Unexplored territory, the road less traveled.

  • great song

  • gods not real

  • This song has very intense spiritual truth... when things seem very easy, we must flee from appearences that the devil want us offer, because what come from God is good, perfect and nice and so we must be aware that the world offers us. Congratulantions Michael W. Smith for this gift that the Lord gave you , and you are used more and more for Him.

  • as well as anyone could have put it!

  • Sorry, but what are you talking

  • oops, i thought had replied to someone else. i don't even remember who it was now

  • wait at :25, Christianity at a junior high? what ever happened to the separation of church and state?

  • maybe it was a private school.

  • i love michael w smith! he's soooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy rocks! :D

  • hey, hertzeim, even a monkey could understand that that part of the song refers to his life when he is not focused on Christ.

  • someone smart please help me

    comment me back rv

  • whats wrong?

  • Excellent song

  • WOW, His songs are always classic,

  • Actually, GO EAST!!! Back to Rome! Back to the Holy Father!!! Give me you hate, I welcome it.

  • just by looking at this i can say that this is from 1996, possible 95 or 97...look at the clothes

  • 1993

  • droppin loads of love!

  • I certainly agree with the last poster - he is a very good-looking guy! Such charmisma! I don't like this song (too pop-sounding- but I guess that was typical for this time period - 1993). Glad to say he's retained his good-looks and appeal. The idol of the '80s and '90 christian bobby-soxers. Also a good family man - good morals and standards. God Bless Michael and his good work!

  • WOW..he's pretty amazing as a singer. I'm a staright guy and I think that he's definetely a real handsome guy. I'm sure he had no problem finding a date ever.

  • But he sounds like a squealing kid.

  • I'm not a christian and I have NO plans on ever being one but I can listen to Michael W Smith's songs because he doesn't just play that "god is the best go team god!" bullshit like a lot of other christian singers do, Michael actually thinks carefully about some of his lyrics and doesn't come out like a cookie cutter christian rock group. I have to respect him for his style.

  • You may like some of Chris Rice's songs too then. Yes, he's Christian, but he has plenty of songs that differ from the 'normal' faith/praise songs.

  • Jesus Loves you!

  • We have better music than you. :P Do not comment on something that could offend someone a lot. you obviously don't understand religion. I hope He shows you the way.

  • I'm a Christian, and I disagree. "Our" music is the stupidest, probably because we're trying too hard. Though pop music is getting to be just as bad these days

  • I don't think we try too hard, we just love good praise music with a nice catch. That's what everys Christitan artist is looking for, a good praise song that is catchy.

  • Catchy? What is this, pop music? Well anyway... I like some of Smitty's stuff, don't get me wrong. But I believe "christian" music is limited by the very virtue of it being christian. God gave us an entire world to sing about, and although sometime christians do, maybe we don't do it often enough. We feel the need to sing about Christ. Christ is good to sing about, but he did what he did, for us, so we could enjoy life here too, and sing about everything. Not limited to marital sex. Sex is good.

  • Ok, stewartp, that was an ignorant comment

  • lol

  • Michael W. Smith's music is in a class by itself. His energetic spirit and love for God is so evident in the music he writes and produces. He is a devoted family man, and follows after God's heart.

Michael sets the bar high in all he does, and is without a doubt one of the best loved Christian artists in the music industry today.

  • Go Mike!! (Smith) that is!!!!!! :) :)

  • it is obvious that the meaning of the song is just to run the opposite way from the evil..

not anything that has to do with literal things..

  • OMG! I LUV THIS SONG!!!! i wish i cud get all the videos smitty released...io only hav the 20 year celebration and worship dvds =[ most were frm b4 i was born lol

  • yeah, I love this song too, and I have those dvds too, and they're so awesome! I have watched them like, a billion times! I totally love smitty, he's my favorite artist.

  • lol same here ever since i was 6 my dad let me keep the michael w smith project and afterwards i bought several of his cds 2 of his cds and a dualdisc 4 the second decade. i was even 2 see him @ the billy graham crusade bout 4 years ago...i wish i can go 2 a concert even tho i missed the last 1 in november =/

  • yeah, I wish I could go to a concert of him to. I hope he will trop in to Norway next time he will go on tour :)

  • I think that this is an awsome song because he's saying that we should run one direction and leave our sins behind. I love Micheal W. Smith for his faith and his life tips

  • Great song

  • Tapes were the 90s. CDs really didn't come into play until 2 or 3 years later.

  • Well, CDs were out as early as 1986, but from '86 to the mid-90s, they weren't as predominant as cassette tapes.

  • I have his CD with this song, and I like it, but paradoxically it pisses me off when the line 'when the evil go East' is uttered. Makes no sense. The evil of what? Communism which is from a Western disease called Karl Marx? The Anti-Christ's first destination?

  • I think you are taking it too literally. Would it be better if he sang "go right young man"...and "let the evil go left"?

  • I think so though that sounds a bit weird hahaha.

  • It means which ever way the devil goes dont go with him go the opposite way

  • It's just a play on words. He's quoting a line from an 1851 editorial from the Terre Haute Express: "Go west, young man, and grow up with the country." It was encouraging young strong men to venture into the untamed American west of the 19th century. I don't listen to much Christian rock, but I like Michael W. Smith a lot. He's just a really good writer. And the fact that he writes spiritual lyrics is icing on the cake.

  • There is a Biblical phrase: "As far as the east is from the west, he has removed our sins from us". There is also a famous phrase in American history, "Go west, young man, and grow up with the country". It's merely poetic license that enables Michael W. Smith to say "Evil go east" in this song.

  • "We listen to Michael W. Smith tapes a million times"~lol (11-year-old kid at 00:14 in the clip).

Wow. That really dates this vid:) Tapes? haha.

um there's something called CDs lol.

  • Back then it was tapes.

  • Ah, I was introduced to this genre of music through him. <3 Years ago <3
