  • Listen to the radio right now, any rap station will do. There's a 95% chance this song here is better than what you're hearing on the radio.

  • Personally I think G Rap had the best verse. Back in the day I thought the same thing. Then when Kool G dropped Road to the Riches that was it for me. G RAP was way ahead of his time.

  • Back then they were called Rappers

  • Big Daddy Kane = best rapper ever lived

  • @ntk789 1 of the best Mc's dat was lyrical

  • Now thaaaaat's tha sh!t am talkin bout!!

  • PUT A QUARTER IN YOUR ASS CAUSE YOU PLAYED YA SELF

    DAMNNNNNNNNNNNN.

  • Craig and dat big arse sombrero lol

  • Kane ripped it.they saved the best 4 last

  • When Rap was gold.

  • kane was dope, had the swag and all that but kool g was in a league of his own...im 36 and the older i get the more i realize how nuntouchable g was.

  • marley marl influenced EVERYBODY!!!!!

  • TUNE!

  • Wow can y'all believe that one day soon we are going to be saying that this our grandparents hip hop!

  • Kool G says more. Although NOONE can Rhyme with KANE!!!!!!!!!

  • Classic

  • Quite literally the ILLEST Posse Cut of all time... That nigga Kane said, "So put a quarter in ya ass cuz ya played yaself..." Lord Have Mercy!!

  • For those that lived in NYC.. "Video Music Box"!!!

  • Michrich98 summed it up perfectly and to the kid who said G Rap hands down really doesn't know what he's talking about. It's really a toss up between Kane and G. Hands down better? No one is! I go back and forth on who had the better verse and I STILL can't come up with a winner. Regardless....Kane shut that joint down at the end!

  • Wow!! This was back when Rap City was worth watching. *get off the bus, put your book bag down, find the remote, put it on BET*

  • The order they went in is perfect. Ace grabbed your attention, and made you want to listen, Craig G followed suit, Kool G built up the intensity, and Kane shut it down!!!

  • One of the best tracks ever!

  • The best people in the juice crew to me was Kool G. Rap and Biz. Craig G and Master Ace was scientists. Kane was great but he pissed me off with that singing shit and then he lost his fire to me.

  • I used to run home from school to catch this video on Video Music Box.

  • one of the raps that inspired me to start rapping

  • one of the hottest collabs ever done in hiphop

  • Ace's intro was hot but Kanes verse killed the entire track. "Put a quarter in your ass cause you played yourself" I was 10 when this tracked dropped and as a 10 year old I knew then Kane rocked this track..l

  • what is everyone's problem with Jay-z I'm not saying he has to be in your top 10 favorites but seriously, he's not in the same category as souljah boy. some people just hate whatever is successful and probably have no idea why they're hating... obviously on a band wagon @universallordgator have you ever heard anything from J that wasn't on tv or radio?

  • "So Put a Quarter in ya ass because you played ya self...." Nuff said.

  • It's been almost 25 years since those cats were in their primes and we are still debating about who's the best. I am running off at the typewriter (laptop). Next week, I am going over to the Rakim videos and type about why I think Rakim is the best. This week Kane is the best!

  • @universallordgator hahaha.... Fam, the era we grew up in had so many people we could call The Best, it made no sense. Kane, G Rap, Rakim, KRS, Ricky D, Kool Moe D, LL, Chuck D, Hell... Ice Cube. The list can go on and on. We need to appreciate what we experienced. It will never happen again.

  • @universallordgator It goes to show that we grew up in an era of Hip Hop Greatness & not this bubblegum pop bullsh*t that passes for Hip Hop today. Damn I'm glad I didn't miss Hip Hop during it's Golden Period. People like these cats, Rakim, Krs-One, Intelligent Hoodlum, Naughty By Nature's Treach, Chuck D, LL Cool J (Pre-1993), etc.. will forever live as true rappers. Not the Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy's of todays garbage.

  • @universallordgator like saying Celtics vs Lakers in the 80's

  • A fissure developed and people chose sides. I will tell anyone that listens to hip hop to compare Rakim's first two albums... polar opposites. The one song on Follow the Leader that put me in a Rakim frame of mind was the 'The R'. A number of the other tracks made me say that Rakim sounds angry. Lyrics of Fury is in the same mold of Raw. The lyrics in that song were dark; and would become darker on subsequent albums.

  • After Kane's arrival, all true hip hop heads caught chills. Rakim loyalists knew deep down that Kane was on par with Rakim. However, it was blasphemous to even put someone on the same level as Rakim. Look at the difference between the tone of Rakim's first album and Rakim's second album. Rakim moved towards the same desrtuctive tone that Kane's first album exhibited. His cadence and flow also quickened. Nothing sounded like Rakim when he first dropped. Likewise, nothing sounded like Kane.

  • When I was a young cat, circa '86; I would listen to Eric B. and Rakim's first tape after school for hours at a time. I learned all of the lyrics by writing them down. I said to anyone that would listen that, "The greatest emcee of all time is Rakim!" Two years later, Kane dropped his album and I never made that statement again. I love Rakim, you could never get me to say anything bad about his work. Before BDK came on the scene, no one would dispute that Rakim was the best.

  • Kane wuz the illest.

  • Yo sons this is real Cake Here!!!!!!!!

  • Awwwwe shit... this was my shit. Kool G Rap and Big Daddy Kane made me want to start rapping.

  • these were the days when finding a hot piano sample was nearly as good as hitting the lottery.

  • yeah big daddy served many and plenty and so did cool g but in part 2 cool g took it. i don't know why big daddy kane ain't in the video of part 2 tho...

  • The lineup was supposed to be Shan, Craig G., G Rap, and Kane. Shan backed out cuz he didn't want to be on a posse cut with a bunch of new jacks. G Rap hadn't released an album yet and Kane's had just come out that summer. Shan felt he would have been playing himself. So Marl was going to keep it at three. But when they were about to record it, no one wanted to go first. So Masta Ace said his rhyme just to break the ice. And the rest is history.

  • @jl2279 My dude Kane was on Rhymin wit Biz in 87 then RAW dropped. Fall 88 Long Live the Kane drops. Wrath of Kane drops like early 89 then Lean on Me drops, he was a house hold name when Symphony dropped. Craig G was already a known member of The Juice crew Shan Said "MC Man he made them beg he is the man that is known as Craig the newest member out to get loose now he is down with us cuz he got the juice". G Rap had It's a Demo & Rikers Island in 87, he was a known Juice Crew member in 89'...

  • Anyone know how much one of those 30mmX36inch real gold rope chains cost in the 80s? AKA the chain BDK is wearing. Anyone know if it is more than 10grand?

Please, any answer helps, whether you know how much they cost then or now.

"..you betta evaporate, disintegrate deflate to ya fate as the great will dominate straight to the state..." ..that's gotta be one of my favorite flows from Kane right there, and he's got a few.

  • @raven062000 cause he is kane kid...big daddy can do whatever he likes....

  • Klassic...........Hiphop!!!!

  • 67 thousand views...this song created so many rappers who get zillions of views

    respect the architect

  • @Jahrass7 EXACTLY. People these days have no respect nor knowledge where they came from, but will sell their soul to go anywhere. True evidence of one of the few reasons why Hip-Hop is under construction.

  • @TWells4President word up-I BET a lotta cats know Symphony that rap about gwop and guns-this was a MAINSTREAM joint

I disagree with artists and labels who think they can't do numbers with real hip hop

  • these days are gone :(

  • Kool G Rap always had the illest line along with Kane. Hard to pick a winner from the two. My favorite posse cut ever ever ever.

  • G Rap all the way

  • G Rap murdered everyone. "Marley gives a slice, I get nice, and my voice is twice as horrifying as Vincent Price"... come on son, legendary.

  • kool g rap murdered it!

  • MASTA ACE MY BOY KILLED IT!!

  • The posse rap record that all others are measured against. By far the greatest posse rap record ever.

G Rap and Kane just absolutely SMOKED it.

  • @Chauncey1966

If those two came out of retirement they'd smoke a lot of todays' 'rappers'

  • @SR71BBFLYER kool g rap is still rapping actively. unfortunately, his last mini album sold 690 copies in the first week

big daddy kane said he might start recording again.

  • @dhtjlghks

Thanks for the headsup man...I'll look for it.

    peace.

  • @SR71BBFLYER it's called Half a klip

  • @Chauncey1966 Ace set it off rather lovely. The track is a banger.

  • @Chauncey1966 They killed it and Kane and Ace's full verses were left off the video....still fire, but the video didnt do their verses justice, especially kane's.

  • G Rap kills every collab I have ever herd him on

  • Hip Hop at its finest right here.

  • This was undoubtedly my shit, and Grap with that "S" on his tongue was FIRE!!!

  • Classic. And for the record... Kool G. Rap had the illest verse.

    -Harlem, USA

  • You are damn right he killed it! When I saw this video I knew he was on the level of Rakim!

  • Kool G always spit the illest verse no matter what.

  • @nadouble75 He ALWAYS has the illest verse....

  • C L A S S I C!!!

  • 88-89, hip hop golden years...

battling me is hazardous to your heath,

so put a quarter in your @ss cause you played yourself

  • I remember spittin this whole song for my little league football team....good old days

  • hahaha.. NO comparison.. Kane murdered this ish!!! Cool G was nice.. But .. KANE WAS a lyrical beast in this 1..

  • This is the shit...

Marley Marl put together the all star team.

Glad MC Shan wasn't on this track.

He just never fit in with the rest of the MCs.

My friends used to argue who had the best verse in the song.

  • it's between G. Rap and Kane but, they both ripped it. I can't choose. there are days i think G Rap murdered it and then there are days where i think Kane bodied it.

  • Agreed. The thing i like most about the track is Kool G and Big Daddy presenting perfect examples of their styles and rhythm. So many rhymes!!! Makes me wanna get up and flex.

Kool G Rap takes it for me, his verse makes more sense i reckon

  • Comment removed

  • the best part of this is the intro of each guy. the dream team

  • Damn why's Kool G's and Kane's verses cut short?

"Battlin' me is hazardous to health, so put a quarter in ya ass, cuz you played yourself". LOL @ the part when Kane says it in the video, "so put a quarter in yo [shout]..."
