Every body saying you can't out run it and it travels 600mph, yes it travels up to 600 mph in the open ocean, as it approaches shallower water, the wave front slows to as little as 25 mph, and the wave grows vertically as the back of the wave is still going faster than the front. So yes, given a small head start (like these folks could have had), you could outrun it if you are in really good shape!!

Curiosity killed the cat [this guy]. He went to go check out the area of the beach exposed by the drawback, which is normally underwater, and didn't look up in time to see the wave coming at him.

i was in that tsuanmi, and i saw the guy, that guy was my friend and he told me that he wanted to die already. so he prayed then the wave took him and he died. didnt u see like 2 seconds after, he turned his back aand the wave got him.
