That is fake coral and believe it or not many people do this with cichlids. Since saltwater tanks are expensive and hard to care for, people will choose colorful cichlids and fake coral as a substitute for saltwater. Also, since the coral is fake and made of water safe rubber, it won't scratch the fish.

@iJacksFishTanks they might have some parasite, it not a big deal change 40 percent of water clean all the algae put some Aquarium salt in it and you should be fine ...

You should not put coral in a freshwater fish tank. The coral is too sharp and will injure them.

you are wrong. the males will show some black colouring, the females wil remain electric yellow. the blue are the electric blue cichlids, or even convicts/zebras.

@MrHiphopattack hey cichlids love to dig its how they mark there teritories and shape there "Homes". and the yellow dots, if there on the small fin at the rear of the fish, there to attract famale cichlids its explained in the video.

@MrSportsfan06 you can do that if you want, id wait 2weeks then put her in the trap, it should take around 10days for egss to become fry an then another 11days of growing before female will start to think about releasing them.. you could strip them if you have the time

make sure not overcrowding... my male was spawning with a female, but they kept being interupted by all the other fish. removed most of other fish, and they got busy :P. Also have a wide sandy swimming space. dont fill and cramp up aquarium floor with rocks and logs.

if you buy from a reputable seller they would get you a pair or trio(1 male 2 female)cichlids especially africans need to be studied its a mine field and you can waste alot of money if you dont,compatability is the biggest issue these guys love a scrap

not true, females are also known to have egg spots. Dominant females can also have just as vibrant color as a male. It all depends on what type of cichlid... but a lot of times venting is the only true way to tell.
