This song and video are amazing. I remember seeing it in the ninties and thinking how avant garde it was. Watching it again now just reverberates how innovative it was. I would say this is Danielson's masterpiece.
Yes I do mean adjective. Thanx for the correction. Yes I do like Rob Bell, but if you have also read his material you'd notice that I wasn't quoting, I was simply giving further thought to an assessment he made. I felt it was a good opinion, so I wanted to add my thoughts to it.
I think the term christian makes a very poor verb. It is meant to be a noun. A christian is a person who believes in Christ. No one goes around saying, "I think these guys are a Jehovah witness band." or, "Yeah these guys are Buddhist rock", that's just dumb.
cenestpasimportant, I agree 100%. I watched the Danielson documentary, and he says something to the effect of "People come up to me all the time and say things like, ' I like your music, but I don't agree with your religion.' it's not like I'm all like 'well, I really like this reggae but I just don't agree with that rastafarian life style.'" Thats what sold me on the band, I'm an Atheist and I love em'.
Yea....I mean, it's not like as a Christian myself I only listen to Christian artists. I like Sublime, and they were relatively well-known as atheists. I don't need to agree with someone's personal stance on anything to appreciate and enjoy his/her art. They don't hit you over the head with their faith like all those derivative "contemporary Christian" artists. They're subtle. People are inspired by all sorts of things; why does it matter to you if you agree with it or not?
Why does it bother you? Can I ask you if it was influenced or had lyrics pertaining to, say, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism would you still not like it. You should be happy that it's good. Who cares where they get their inspiration from. I don't get annoyed at atheist artists.
i remember we used to listen to 'a prayer for every hour' absolutely CRANKED in the youth room, until everyone was finally annoyed and forced to leave.
I just have to say that these guys have been making the most insane and creative music for a very long time. Touching boundaries that will probably never be realized in our lifetime.
Saw this way back with the T&N DVD. I was shocked and liked it at the same time. It was way ahead of its time and probably will always will be. I love Danielson's latest CD. Ships is just brilliant.
This song is my jam.

Then enjoy the music and don't listen to the words if it bothers you that much. It's really pleasant, either way you do it.

What? I don't get it. You don't like the music just because the people are Christian? I think that's ridiculous.
