Brain Damage

Marijuana is psychoactive because it stimulates certain brain receptors, but it does not produce toxins that kill them (like alcohol), and it does not wear them out as other drugs may. There is no evidence that marijuana use causes brain damage. Studies performed on actual human populations will confirm these results, even for chronic marijuana users (up to 18 joints per day) after many years of use.

Marijuana Overdose

There is no existing evidence of anyone dying of a marijuana overdose. Tests performed on mice have shown that the ratio of cannabinoids (the chemicals in marijuana that make you high) necessary for overdose to the amount necessary for intoxication is 40,000:1.

I honestly don't know anyone among my friends who doesn't smoke pot... And they're all successful professionals. I smoke pot myself and I still remember how scared I was the first time I tried it because of all the propaganda I had bought into... But I can attest from first hand experience that there's NO physical addiction. I've smoked pot regularly for months and then quit cold turkey for several months without any problems, not even a headache...

Change the system and at the very least, there will be relatively less drugs, even if there are more people.

This would free up budget dollars, reduce crime from the underground drug economy, reduce the prison population, and stop the strain that the drug war wreaks on the inner city, which is disproportionately unfair to minorities.

Prohibition in th US was a huge problem for many reasons. It increased crime, primarily theft and murder. It was bad for the economy as other countries which had distilleries flourished with the absence of American distilleries.

In many ways Gravel actually answers why he is not for making alcohol and cigs illegal in this video. It would mean EVEN more people in jail. He wants to solve this problem of drugs be criminalized. Making alcohol illegal would only make that worse.
