  • I wish Hollywood would release these movies on the big screen again.

  • sounds like eddy talked out of turn lol

  • Is it just me, or does Bogart horribly overact that death scene?

  • @goback3spaces

it's just you. because Bogie never overacts.

  • @goback3spaces Not really, I don't think. His character throughout the movie always had the potential to die that way, in the face of a gun. Besides, it was Warner Brothers.

  • Tc

  • I just received this and 3 other old gangster flicks for Christmas. I love me some James Cagney.

  • Never gets old-still holds up

  • WOOOOOOW

  • Bogie and Cagney in ONE movie; only Edward G. Robinson is missing: The glorious triple of the film noir!

  • Cagney>>>>>>>>>Bogart

  • @IRoosterManI You got it. Cagney > Bogart: that's why Cagney kills him in every flick they made together.

  • @MalnourishedGoat EXACTLY!

  • so good what an actor

  • GOD I LOVE THE MOVIES FROM THIS ERA. Today's movies and star are mostly crap.

  • A very Great Actor from the Past,Thank You !!!

  • Greatest films in history, with the greatest style man has ever had in history as well. No one can beat the suits and hats of that time

  • fantastic actor. gr8 film.

    god bless jimmy Cagney.

  • brilliant can see these film over and over again

  • This Is My Favorite Scene Ever (:

  • don`t bogart that joint Eddie.

  • Amazing

  • The greatest American gangster movie ever made. Bar none.

  • Beautiful.....the real Hollywood is gone

  • what a movie. here we are 2011 and still enjoying it. i challenge hollywood to make thesesmovies again.

  • @SuperJingo1 they can't. these amazing actors are all gone.

  • @SuperJingo1 Movies like this can never be made again

even the supporting actors in this are better than todays so called

    film stars.

Cagney and Bogart were true greats.

  • took out the whole gang.

  • I miss these kind of movies,,,Hollywood doesnt know how to make pictures anymore

  • There'll never be movies made like this again. A different world back then with people who had great talent and personality. Watch the interview with Daniel J. Travanti. He says it best in that there's really nothing today.

  • "He used to be a big shot." One of the greatest endings of all time.

  • @chelle329

    You better believe it.

  • @chelle329 with gone with the wind :)

  • lol why u gonna hit someone one time and get knockout so easy

  • anyone know the name of the movies name that he says...u dirty rat

  • @datsniggawater Called WHITE HEAT. He's a little older in it than this one.

  • cont...Bogie's death in ''invisible stripes'' should have been used here.''This is it i guess, what do i care, the kid deserved a break...nobody...lives...for..ever''.That was a great death,in a much lesser film. Here It made him a one dimensional character ,even for those times. In ''dead end'' AND ''invisible stripes'' bogie goes out with at least some heart. He's the SAME character as here...and this is it?Its even an exact copy of his death in dirty faces, pleads, knocks the gun over! lol

  • I got into a conversation with some young workmates recently about the best gangster movie of all time.. they were big into Scarface and Carlito's Way, and I mentioned this great movie. They had never heard of it, and were intrigued by the storyline.. it's one of the greats!

  • @djsuperbadd You were right. And Martin Scorsese will actually back you up.

  • So you like to laugh, do ya?

Well here, see if you think this is funny ...

LOL Now that right there is quinessential James Cagney!

  • Your right, alot of my perception is his 40's and 50's image. And its interesting you bring up sierra madre,i thought he seemed more obsessed and paranoid than cowardly. Its just that in roaring twenties it seemed kinda jarring, out of place.Still a great film.Wonderful performance.

  • Simply the best. Bogart is sensational as the villian. It's right that he dies a coward.

Cagney is magnificent and gladys George is heartbreaking as the hard-bitten moll with a heart. The ending must be one of the best in cinema history. The snow, the church steps, cagney dying in Gladys's arms, "He used to be a big shot" the sweeping score.....pass the hankies.

  • don't edit a thing. bogie played lots of roles, in this one he's a coward. deal with it.

You couldn't do that to a mailbox today. my melancholy baby!

  • "SO, you like to life do ya? Well, see if yout think this is funny!"

  • Superb musical scoring by the equally underrated Ray Heindorf.

  • Bogie's death is a complete disgrace. At least they could have given him a sarcastic line, and go let him go out like a man.I understand they had those sissy codes back then, but a new re-edited dvd would be nice.At least where they take away the cowardly pleading before and after cagney whacks him out.

  • @TheGatorfan93

I agree he went out like a coward but how do you mean they should bring out a re-edited dvd? What are they gonna do bring cagney and bogie back to life to do alternative takes, or digitally animate them? LOL

  • @mykcheck1212 LOL,no just edit it where bogie pleads for his life.It just isn't right, bogie should have never gone out like that.

  • @TheGatorfan93

Are you simply insane? Or merely ignorant?

Go remake the movie on your own. And play it to an empty movie house.

And let's see if anyone is still watching your version 72 years later.

  • @grabit1 Relax there superstar,im not alone in believing bogie's death was a ridiculous scene. The hayes code made it that a villian had to die that way.Remember cagney in dirty faces? It worked out for the story, but here its completely out of george's character. He had the guts to fight in world war 1,put his ass on the line against brown the other gangster...then,because cagney is the hero he turns into a yellow belly?Doesn't work...sorry

  • @TheGatorfan93

Fair enough. But remember that things aren't quite the same when the gun is pointed straight at your face.

  • @grabit1 lol Agree, but bogie's demise is exactly the same here,as in angels with dirty faces. He pleads, his voice cracks and his lip is quivering.Even copying the part where cagney gets in a one liner, then bogie tries to knock the gun away! Maybe its also the fact that bogie just wasn't convincing cowering. He was always so cool, look at the the dead end movie,he was a cold blooded gangster but went out with defiance and heart.I dunno,it just makes me cringe watching this scene.

  • @TheGatorfan93

Perhaps it's just a matter of taste, or of expectation. This was before before the image of Bogie as perpetually cool had been developed by Bogie (or more likely by Bogie and Warner Brothers in concert). His cowering side resurfaced later in TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE, and was there he was quite convincing, I thought. Anyway, sorry to question your sanity earlier.

  • @TheGatorfan93 bogarts character was not courageous in any part of this film. during the war he shot a teenager. at the warehouse hijacking he shot his old sargent while he was down. cagney was the one who kicked browns ass in the club and later killed him in his own restaraunt. instead of facing eddie he tips off brown that he is coming over. so bogarts death was completely in keeping with the nature of his character in this film which was a cowardly opportunist.

  • @coolrog0705 Wrong, after they knocked over the warehouse,he was right there with eddie talking the talk, and walking and the walk against brown's crew.Lloyd was the true coward, takes eddie's girl, cant even ask eddie to talk to george!.Where was lloyd to join eddie,in meeting george on new years eve? That's a cowardly opportunist.I understand bogie in dirty faces,a weasel lawyer cowering, but here?...doesn't work.Dead end he was bad, still got an honorable death...why not here?See what i mean now?

  • @coolrog0705 Bogart was the kind of thug boss who didnt like to get his hands dirty. He was use to being the boss and giving orders not taking them. As far as killing the teenager in the war, what was he suppose to do, let the kid live so that he could have the opportunity to kill allied troops? I dont think so! And the sergeant had it coming to him, as bogey said! Was he suppose to let him live so that he could identify Bogey and send him to jail? Once again, I dont think so!

  • Very under-rated film. Great stuff. Thanks.

  • Jajajajaja..That's the second cowardly death sence for Bogie vs Jimmy. Too bad they didn't star in a movie in the 1950's..Where Bogie was the good guy and Jimmy rotten to the core!

  • Wow, thanks so much for posting this classic.

  • this is such an awsome movie! thanks for posting!
