fate/stay night was originally a visual novel. there are three routes in the visual novel : fate (the anime is an adaptation of this route), unlimited blade works (which focuses on rin and archer), and heaven's feel (which focuses on sakura). unlimited blade works and heaven's feel answer to all of the questions left unanswered in the anime :) if you don't want to play the visual novel, there is also a fate/stay night manga, and it focuses on unlimited blade works
